I don't do any SEO on Etsy. I feel like that should be their job given they are the platform and we pay them fees and my Etsy still ticks over even though I am not doing any of that work. I reserve that for my website because I hate doing the whole SEO thing and I need to reserve any enthusiasm I have for the website. :D
I had two high ticket items sell at the end of Feb in my Etsy shop. Weird because it had been crickets till then

Hearing that the bigger ticket items have been selling much better is giving me hope.
Seriously I was *not* expecting it at all. And they were getting viewed and favourited even before the superbowl too!
I can't wait to see if this continues into March..

Love the mugs! I agree with you on SEO. I love creating, but listing and SEO is a chore, but a necessary evil on Etsy!😫

You're always a bright and cheery way to kick off my weekend. I will be doing fabric baskets for my daughter's B-day so it's off the fabric store! Love the mugs. I'm thinking about POD for some of my designs. I'm older so I don't want to mess with a lot of inventory and packing/shipping. Sometimes my hands act up and don't want to cooperate.
That's completely understandable and it's worth looking into as it might be a good alternative option for you. Especially if you've got some original art or designs of some kind that can help you stand out.
It's a lot of screen based work though. Make sure you give yourself lots of breaks if you go down the POD path. 💚

Etsy really has the worst analytics lol. It's so hard to figure out what you're doing right or wrong when you can't get a firm picture of how buyers are getting to your listings and which traffic sources are actually converting.
I miss the days when you could link Google Analytics to your shop. 😫
Oh, those mugs are so cute! The designs are lovely - and the wording so apt 😀 Wow! Congratulations on the Etsy sales. I wish I could say I saw the same but my views and visits are down yet again. Income is a third of what I made last February. Sigh! I am currently re-photographing my stock and adding any ALT text I missed out.
You watch now Gillian. March will be a great month for you and a poor one for me. At this point I genuinely wouldn't be surprised as far as Etsy goes! 😄

They definitely tweaked the algorithm last month, people were seeing things that hadn't sold in a long time selling all of a sudden.

Hi Kim, interesting what you say about Etsy for February - I had similar experience - only 1 sale in January - 9 in February - I haven't promoted my Etsy shop anywhere either - no idea what they are up to!

I have noticed that my haberdashery and maker supplies sell better on Etsy. I don't keep any of those on my Shopify store. I want that to be the better stuff, and I have reduced the better stuff on Etsy and allowed it to turn into more of a supply store with handmade lower priced things as well. I am happy accruing less fees on Etsy because I do find you have to ramp up prices to make enough on Etsy items. But I am monitoring this and seeing how things change. It's a weird time because sales are slow because *2024* so it's not normal times (whatever they are).
Normal times.. oooh, remember those? Those were good times. I miss them. 😄

I definitely think it could be useful for handmade sellers, but I personally won't be leaning too hard into it. These mugs were a kind of bucket list goal for me. I have something of a mug problem. 😄☕️☕️☕️

The tagless sales are intriguing! Maybe a buyer came to it from another of your listings? Or do none of them have tags? I would never stop laughing if the pink sunset bag gained monumentum & became a best seller! Wish we were given better analytics.
Did anyone else get an email with the latest data & tips to improve your shop? Mine had nothing. Literally nothing. "That's all for now!" 😂😂😂 (& there are DEFINITELY many things I need to work on!) Wish I could post a screenshot. So funny 😂
This is it, none of them had tags! And they sold to different customers at different times of the month so I'm all out of ideas!
I've gone in and added tags to the remaining bags this morning because I do think they're good to have. I just found it interesting that they were found, liked and bought, even when they didn't have any and thought I'd report back.

Oh it definitely does. I've got a funny story about when they were rolling ot out, but I had just assumed it was still really clunky.

Well done with the mugs. I'm sad that you didn't launch with a "mum face" mug, but I digress (another of your favorite sayings, Lol).
My January was solid and my February started out solid. I had 11 orders in the first 7 days and then got 3 on Super Bowl Sunday, so I had 14 orders in the first 11 days. Solid, by my standards. I didn't get another order for 8 days and ended the month with 7 orders in the last 18 days. Even the crickets have left.
The Super Bowl seems to be the dividing line for my shop's success. I was averaging 29.6 visits a day in the first 11 days and then I averaged 21.1 visits a day for the last 18 days of the month. No changes to my shop other than my little shop announcement that I change every few days. I think it was your project bags, stealing the show.
I have two new products that I added in early January and no sales on either one to this point. They're getting some views and one of them has a couple of favorites, but no sales. I'm hoping March will be their breakout month. I'll let you know the in comments of your April reset video.
It's infuriating that there's no consistency in sales on Etsy. My shopify shop does, and is more predictable, but Etsy is dancing to the beat of it's own drum it seems.

On etsy if you describe your item in the title without supid words such as beautiful it sells.
Etsys gift mode promotion went into effect, might explain your increase in sales and decrease in mine because my etsy shop is a supply shop.
It would certainly tie in with how my own supplies have been selling lately too.. or haven't been more like.
And yet they've been selling pretty consistently over on the website.

Your merch should always have your name, your business name, or your channel name on it somewhere. Otherwise it's not merch--it's just 1 more random thing you're selling.

Those mugs r super cute! Ok so increase in sales....do u think it could be Etsy doing what they should have been doing all along because the rumors of them beginning to charge monthly to be a seller are true? So sellers feel it's worth it to be there and pay the monthly fee? Just a thought.
Ooooooh. I hadn't thought of that. I'm not sure that's going to be enough to convince me to stay on the platform though to be honest. Etsy will need to dangle a much bigger carrot to make a monthly subscription sound like a worthwhile expense for me.

Did you put the mugs on Etsy and Shopify?
I've just put them on Shopify to start because I wanted to know how it all worked first.
Etsy's bots are too sensitive so I'm a little nervous about listing them there if truth be told and want to take some photos with my own mugs first rather than use mockups. I have trust issues! 😄
I understand completely! I’m easing into print on demand as well. It’s very difficult as a handmade seller to trust the quality when I can’t physically pack and ship myself! The struggle is real!
I find the more you are in etsy tinkering the more views and sales you get. If you've been spending time adding new listings you've probably got a boost from that and then if an item sells it's likely etsy will favour it and it will sell again. I actually saw a drop in sales around the time gift mode was released and then once they announced we were in a recession (like we all didn't already know that!) my sales dropped drastically!
The recession announcement actually made me laugh that morning. We didn't need to wait for the data to know that one! 😄
