What a well timed video! Our trim is cracked on our 2018 Puma too. We thought we lost the end caps on the top but apparently they were never there.😂 Thanks for showing us how simple the replacement is.
you guys have helped me so much! bought used jayco swift about one month ago, and as DIYer, you have given me extra confidence to tackle maintenance issues with ease!
I just had to do this to my 2017 Coachman Clipper 17FB that I had just bought that had only been used for one weekend (the older couple came home and he died from a heart attack) I used an air compressor to clean out the tracks where the new seal was going, used a plastic paint scraper to clean off the old silicone, taped it off and applied new silicone. On that front cap I used the self leveling sealant, but leveled it out with a putty knife and when went over it with 6" wide Dicor tape. I replaced the rubber strip on a hot day but still had a hard time getting it to slip into the locking groves, a simple light tap with a rubber mallet did the trick. On mine that metal strip ran down the whole side so I also used the Dicor tape on that.
Thanks for the video and the links to the product. Our trailer is almost 1.5 years old and our trim needs to be replaced already. We live in Arizona and the sun is brutal here. We just got back from a trip in Lake Havasu AZ and it was 113. We left early because it was so hot. When we got to our next campsite we noticed the cracking on the trim. We will get the trim later this week and replace it. Also, we will be putting our trailer cover on to protect it from the sun.
Great video, Thanks! I have a Grand Design Solitude and the vinyl insert started coming out as we were driving through North Dakota. Saw it flapping behind us in the mirror and had to pull over and remove it. So now have to replace it, so thanks again for the video. Also will check the self leveling sealant too on the roof. My instinct is to flatten the sealant with my finger, is this a bad thing to do?
We had something similar a few years ago with a 20 foot steamer terrorizing those following us. Finally pulled over and yanked off the remainder. It’s a bit of a sticky mess, but no issue flattening.
Thanks for the video Jerry. For that front seem at the top of most bumper pulls could you use some Eternabond tape instead of the self leveling sealant. That sealant doesn't seem to last nearly as long as the Eternabond tape does.
Jerry, what ladder is that? we have the werner mt-17. that looks like the mt-22? thinking about upgrading, definitely get a workout using those ladders😂 anyway great video!
No need. The weather stripping should stay in place. I on use a very small amount of silicon at the top to help seal and prevent water from entering the weather stripping at the roof.
I have already done it all the way down. After the fact I read that on windows for example you should always leave a space for water to escape if it does penetrate. Will what I did create a problem???
you might have to comment to the people new to this vinyl trim, and that the vinyl trim comes in first of all different colors, of course but also different widths
Leaks can be tough to find. In March, we has a very small spot around about an inch in length where the sealant around a roof vent pulled loose. Was hard to find, but simple fix.
Silicon is the worst thing you can use on an RV. Issue is it causes issues when you want to use something else (dicor, etc) because it won't allow it to properly hold. Silicon will leave a residue, no matter how "clean" you can get it. It binds with the roof surface, leaves a "slick" surface on composite and metal surfaces. Use the proper sealant, there is no reason to get cheap on a waterproofing repair.
thank God for Jerry. I am doing all my projects just like he does so that i don' t get into trouble.
Thanks a bunch! Great to hear the videos are helpful.
You're a good dad, Jerry!
Thanks a bunch. Love my sweet Joolz.
Jerry, you're such a blessing to your family and your RUclips family!
That so much Gayle. What a kind comment.
Uh, the installing it the correct way, in my words, belly out, was the best tip ever, I was struggling doing it incorrectly. Thanks for that!
Thanks.
Best Dad ever!!! I can relate, anything for my Kids!
Thanks
Thank you for sharing. The plus side was you and your daughter doing it together.
Thanks. The added benefit of a camping family and a sweet daughter who likes hanging out with Mom and Dad.
@@iLoveRVlife So true. Thank you again for sharing. May he always keep you and your family safe.
Your video helped me with my trim on my Keystone Hideout. I ordered from your links. Just waiting on things to arrive to fix my trim.
Thanks. Glad we could help.
Thank y'all for taking the time to create this video. Very helpful and appreciated! 😎😁
Good to hear it was helpful.

Jerry lap sealant won't stick to silicone and visa versa thanks again 😊
Thanks for this! I'm about to replace my trim molding for the first time and I now feel like an expert!
Glad we could help.
Your Dad is the man! Great video!

Nice video you explain things so well and are a great help you saved your daughter a lot of money
Thanks
I had the same issue with my PUMA when we had it…. I got a roll of that trim from my dealer and replaced it very easily ,,, ended up doing both sides.
It’s the nature of the beast with all RVs. Simple, yet important maintenance item to check every year.
I don’t even have that end cap just that clear caulking and mine is a 2021 Forest River Cherokee love the video
Thanks for watching

So true. Next project at the end of the season.
Nice fix Jerry. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks
Thanks for the video. Do you have the link to the “lap seal” that you used on top? Thank you.
Glad we could help. Here’s a link amzn.to/3UNo8H5
I'm DYING! Don't fall off the roof of the camper! What a good daddy!
Thanks a bunch. I was careful. Promise.
This is a great video! Thank you
Appreciate you watching.
Great video. Thank you
Thanks
Jerry’s RV Repair 👍
That too 😏
Do you have your Amazon link to the trim?
I do. amzn.to/3A326ra

It's the Werner MT-22. It's solid as a rock, but one heavy fellow. Thanks for watching.
Thanks!
Should I place silicone down the entire length of that weather stripping down to bottom?
No need. The weather stripping should stay in place. I on use a very small amount of silicon at the top to help seal and prevent water from entering the weather stripping at the roof.

If there’s weep holes under the windows, these need to be free of any sealant. No harm on the stripping.
Thank u so much for responding to my questions!! Really appreciate it!!
While up there as you mentioned I found a crack in my sky light and had to replace it.
A year yearly roof inspection is a good practice. Over 8 years I had to replace the bath skylight twice.
Take a screen spline tool. Insert on side and take the roller and run it along the trim piece. You can do 30 feet in about 1 minute
Good job, do you take appointments or just drive by ?
Thanks. Just a good holler works most of the time 😏

good job God Bless
Thanks
Any areas being resealed should have been cleaned first! Brake cleaner works great and leaves no residue.
Haven’t used brake cleaner. I’ve always had good results with alcohol.
No wonder it seemed impossible I was doing it backwards 😅
I know. I’ve done the same thing.
My camper is just over a year, out of warranty, and has huge leak I can't find! Starting to hate campers!
Leaks can be tough to find. In March, we has a very small spot around about an inch in length where the sealant around a roof vent pulled loose. Was hard to find, but simple fix.
Nice Daddy.
Thanks Bill
