      Consider it like “the artist formerly known as Prince” (I don’t listen to his genre but those who do and the industry say he does it well, and he was escaping a predatory system when he used that so I applaud his attempt to minimize confusion). Or those who say “the app formerly known as Twitter.” My neurodivergence didn’t work with Twitter but I respect the “hey remember when this was a tolerable internet community” angle
      We will acknowledge the many years a blue table was used for patterning and produced very little doom than made it through editing and it’s fame across CosTube and call whatever surface (even a hotel carpet if you end up like realizing you made a mistake on the pattern you, like Sharon Makes knitting 2 Christmas tours ago, thought you had correctly prepped to take on an adventure. Your back will certainly consider it the hotel carpet of doom).
      But we will just call it blue, and doom-y.

    If you want blue, use wood DYE, not stain. You can basically use any cellulosic dye on wood. There are dyes specifically formulated for wood, but Procian will do the deed! Mix a large enough batch of course, and finish with a matte wipe-on poly to minimize reflections.

That is a huge accomplish for a young, self-employed person! ...I want you to know that I love to sew but have avoided sewing my own clothing because commercial patterns never fit properly. Since I found your channel, I have learned so much about pattern drafting. I drafted my basic bodice block and a skirt. I most recently did a dress. I am just amazed at how well they fit. I haven't done anything extravagant but I am thrilled to be able to make some basic items for myself. YOU DID THAT!!! Thank you.

    I am so delighted that you're safely installed in your new old house! Fabulous! 🏠
    You did the right thing walking away from a project that didn't gladden your heart. People make all sorts of compromises throughout life just to pay the bills, but after a lifetime of doing that I've come to the conclusion that if you can navigate through life without selling out, then don't. It's too high a price to pay. Any publisher with an ounce of sense would jump at the chance to publish a Bianca Esposito book on how to draft patterns. Hell, I'd be first in line to buy it! And so would thousands of your devoted followers. Their loss!
    I don't mind what colour your table ends up. Whatever colour gives you joy is the right colour 😊 Be happy, be yourself.

    You could use dye and then a clear sealer rather than a wood stain. Since you did your tie dyeing adventures maybe you already have the blue you want on hand. There is an Instructable for using Procion MX dye on wood (Dyeing Wood by Ninzerbean) and RIT has an instruction page for dyeing wood and wicker. There is also a video here on RUclips by Wisco Workshop called "How To Make Vibrant Colors To Stain Wood" using dyes specifically formulated for wood.

    • @tephralynn
      @tephralynn 10 часов назад

      @@amiehamilton1840 The Instructable with` the Procion dye does warn of fading but they also sealed it with beeswax. Since I would not recommend just sealing with beeswax for any work surface, that shouldn't be a problem, just use a UV blocking and hard wearing sealer (like one used for hardwood floors). I'm considering using dye when I eventually make my spinning wheel, I might get artistic and do a dyed design rather than a solid color.

    • @theplussizecostumer
      @theplussizecostumer 8 часов назад

      Excellent idea! I suggested using paint and thinning it, but this will very probably work better.

    • @tephralynn
      @tephralynn 7 часов назад +1

      @@theplussizecostumer Thinning paint works well but is semi-opague so you lose the wood grain. It's nice if you want a more milk paint or white wash effect. It's fragile because of the thinning, so use a good sealer on that too.
      I will note that whatever you try, test it (with the sealer) on a scrap. I recently used a nice grey stain on some cabinets to give a wash effect and when I sealed it a lot of the lighter grey tones just vanished. The color is still pretty and will work for the project but I really wish I had tested what the sealer would do to the color before I used it on the cabinets.

You could simply call it, "the wooden patterning table of doom," or whatever moniker fits best. I'm just happy you're still doing your thing. Also, there's no shame in saying "no" when something isn't meant to be. Hi Bianca! Congratulations on your new home! 🎉
    If you're looking for blue wood stains, try alcohol inks or alcohol based leather dye. Apply just like any other wood stain, then let it cure for a few days before sealing up with polyurethane or whatever you want. You can find lots of lovely blues, teals and greens and get the vibrant, translucent wood stain properties you're looking for. Do wear proper PPE because it will not come off your skin or other surfaces.
    Otherwise, you'll probably need to look to wood stains marketed specifically for outdoor projects, like decks. If memory serves there are mixable colors (RGBY) available in transparent, semi transparent and opague stains from Cabot. Typically in big box stores you have to find those silly trifold pamphlets and booklets to get the full color series, and there will be samples of transparent, semi transparent and opague coloring in that product line. You might have to special order it but the samples should be on site so you can see it in person before commiting. If you're lucky there will be actual wood tile samples, too.
    Having a drafting and patterning table named "Blue Doom" regardless if actual color is endearing and part of the channel lore, so just have fun with it.

Second, I'm glad you didn't budge on your book because what you want to do is very needed and I cannot wait until you find the right avenue. In 2023 I made my own wedding dress. I learned how to pattern draft after having only 2.5 years of apparel sewing experience from your videos. #audiovisuallearningstyle it took me 12 months to figure everything out and I found out so many new and powerful things. I'm short waisted! Who knew?! No wonder everything looked off with ready to wear. All of that and more from your videos, in the style that you already use, not someone else's. I made the dress of my dreams and I felt like a boss b***h doing it. I want to thank you for putting up all your videos because I couldn't have learned without you. Learning to draft for myself has completely changed the sewing game for me and made it even more enjoyable. Just wanted to share a slice of my big appreciation cake. Congratulations on the new house, and I look forward to whatever parts of it and/or the renovation process you decide to share with us! It sounds like you made the right call with the book project, and I'm glad you didn't put all that time and effort and heart into something that wasn't right for you.
    Re patterning table discussion, I think you should absolutely make it whatever color you feel like making it, and I am in support of the suggestion to continue calling it the Blue Patterning Table of Doom regardless of color. (Years ago my friend and I had something we called The Thursday Afternoon Tea and Self-Improvement Society, and we kept calling it that even after we no longer held it on Thursday afternoons. This seems like a perfectly good approach to me.)
    Please don't feel stressed or rushed to get back to us. You have so much to deal with right now, and it's fine for you to take the time to do that. We can wait.

    I'm really looking forward to more pattern drafting stuff from you! I read a lot of it, and you always make more sense to me than other people explaining how it works! ❤ And the table will be great no matter what color.

    Hi there, I’ve been experimenting with dying wood for furniture design school, and I found that leather dye works very well, as do higher quality powder dyes. Rit doesn’t work great, but MX Procion dye works well. For a green table I mixed a leather dye and fabric dye and applied it with a spray gun in water, drying it in between light layers. After it was dry, I coated it in a water based poly. It looks great.

    Wallpaper removal tips for plaster(ours was a paper/paint/paper/paint sandwich.)
    1. Get a garden sprayer to spray down the walls.
    2. White scotchbrite pads for scrubbing adhesive
    3. A scraper blade on an oscillating multi tool can get the stubborn stuff off.
    Plaster can handle a lot more moisture than drywall can. Don't be afraid to get it really wet while removing the paper.

    All my love to you Bianca you paint that table whatever color you want and call it the table of Doom you don't have to say a color paint it black as far as I care maybe maybe white is the color we could see better I don't know but you make the decision and I'll watch the videos❤❤❤

    You made a good choice. I know someone who took the craft book deal and made X number of projects that weren't her style and she wasn't really thrilled about them. The deadline was so tight that she ended up hiring people to do some of the different parts. In the end she had checked off the Published Author box from her bucket list, but it wasn't as satisfying as writing HER book. Instead it was the book that the publisher wanted to add to their lineup.

    I totally agree with the decision that you made about the book - I think the beauty of what you do is its adaptability! I would snap up a pattern drafting book that you brought out, teaching us how to make the patterns we need for the clothes that we like to wear 🥰

    I'm so excited for you starting the next stage of your life! It's always fun getting to see a bit of the reasoning behind the madness, and your storytelling is really engaging and lovely to listen to. And now, we have the Blue-Stained-Grain Patterning Table of Doom :) Or whatever colour it ends up by the end of all the shenanigans. Would be neat as a green and black marbled mess of glitter but I'm not sure how practical it would be 😂
    Looking forward to the next update where we deliberate further! And I'm sorry to hear that the book process never panned out; but it's fantastic that you're sticking to your guns and only doing what you really WANT to do. Here's to the projects to come! :D 🎉🎉🎉 💚💚💚💙💙💙

    Drafting Dangerously sounds like an amazing title for a patterning book. Now I want it, lol. But no rush. I’m glad you are in your new house and can’t wait to see what you see next. Color the table however you choose. It is your table. I know it is a big part of your channel, but it is still yours. You have to look at it and work upon it more than we ever do. Sp do as you wish.

    Wow, thank you so much for sharing all this, B! I talk about your channel and videos all the time. Even though our projects differ-I'm mostly into menswear and rarely deal with full bust adjustments or skirts and dresses-your lessons have been invaluable for my work. Just last night, I was making an Elvis cape for a costume and revisited your circle skirt video to refresh my understanding of the math. Your authenticity and the care you put into considering your audience shine through in every video. You're amazing, and I’m rooting for all the good things to come your way! Thank you again!

    Going with your heart, rather than your head, is a brave and noble act at times; well done. I had a similar thing with a screenplay once, but was sadly a no go due to budget and department restrictions. Hey ho, we live and learn, but wouldn't do anything different. After all, if a job is done half heartedly, it isn't worth doing at all, or it won't grow to it's full potential.

    Also the table of doom can be any colour, but the blue is nice and restful to the eyes. Honestly I didn't mind the greyish navy one, it was still an easy to see contrast without being too in your face.

    I'm glad to see you in your new house. And I'm happy that you stuck to your guns regarding the book. Integrity is important. When the time is right, it will happen. And there are too many cookie cutter books on sewing that are no help in the long run. Take care, and pace yourself on getting settling in. The door behind you looks beautiful. Stay warm, from Minnesota!

    It sounds quite disrespectful of a publisher to ask you to produce a whole book in a very short time, following their plans and guidelines. I'm glad you said no, you're not here to work for them😊. It's amazing getting a sneak peak into your new house, I'm so excited for you!!! And the blue table is quite a good colour as it is, it gives good but muted contrast to the paper you work with. A stronger or brighter colour may be difficult for the camera to handle? Apart from that, I don't have any preferences!

    Absolutely, make the table whatever color you like. Sorry to hear about the book deal not working out. But, for what it's worth, that's why I really like your content, for learning how to pattern draft in general, and not how to make a specific garment a specific way.

    To remove paste. Get a container of Diff and use it with a small garden sprayer-ideally-with hot water. The hotter the better. Otherwise put it with hot water in a pail and apply iy with a big sponge. Let it sit a while then scrub it off. If it is thick scrape it with a 6” or similar size putty knife then immediately scrub with a sponge. I used to be a wallpaper. It’s been a while and the product may have changed a bit. If you have a lot of paper to remove through out the house invest in a sprayer. ❤❤❤

    A lavender stained table would be cool as an alternative but alas it may have the same problem of reading as lavender on camera.
    Also, I know this channel is more about sewing but I would love love love to see your house remodel, if you feel ok sharing that journey with us.
    And of course you made the right decision, in spite of trying to make it work by moving the brief closer to a vision you would be happier with. I’m sure it was a tough decision to make, as the right ones usually are, but often it’s also a relief when it’s all said and done.
