I've just recently learned that 2000s fashion aesthetic isn't actually called Y2K, the actual name is Mcbling. Y2K is about digital, futurism in fashion, it is a form of expression and an idea of what people in the 2000s thought fashion would look like. Mcbling is the 2000s fashion such as Juicy couture, Paris Hilton & etc.

Well, Y2K actually refers to the mass panic caused by electrical systems not being able to go past 1999 but it was appropriated as a fashion term

Looking back, most of the fashion trends seen in teen magazines and movies were cringy. Like wearing 3 layers of shirts and denim skirts with bright pink leggings🙄.

She had real nice outfits during season 1-2 of That’s So Raven. By season 4, the outfits they put her in, were quite tacky and cringy.

i'm literally incapable of forming an opinion on y2k fashion. like my gut reaction is always a big no bc, as someone who was never skinny, low rise jeans will forever haunt me, but the more I look at it the more I'm compelled to like it, and the nostalgia definetely adds to it. like miniskirts are just the best look, there's no denying it

Raven was the best she has really good fashion sense in my opinion I don’t think she had one bad outfit
It's funny how when those trends are coming back in style now we start feeling like those looks were not that bad while when we looked at them just a couple years ago we cringed.
I think it's offensive that Hilary referred to it as a "Chinese kimono" when kimonos are Japanese, but she was a young teen and likely didn't dress herself so I can't fault her too much when a stylist probably told her that. I'm more concerned about a teenager showing so much boob tbh. Hair chopsticks seems to be a more Western thing born from traditional long hair pins/ornaments often found in Asian fashion and traditional styles but it's not like chopsticks have some kind of special meaning that makes it disrespectful to use them as a hair ornament. From what I know Japanese people LOVE sharing their culture. In Japan you can pay to have people dress you up in a kimono with the proper footwear, style your hair, and provide traditional accessories that you can walk around in. Kimonos are not seen as particularly special or sacred compared to, say, indigenous peoples' headdresses. Plus qi and wa lolita are purposeful blends of Chinese or Japanese clothing with Western clothing. These are made by Chinese and Japanese companies and sold worldwide. While there is definitely respect for traditional clothing, the Japanese and to a lesser extent the Chinese don't mind blending. (I say China is to a lesser extent because the CCP can be overly controlling when it comes to tradition.).

Growing up i hated Y2K fashion because it was incredibly uncomfortable to me, especially the jeans, i felt out of place and felt i couldn't develop an identity, at least when we are talking about the popular stuff, i'm honestly really glad the trend os old comfy clothes came back because i honestly wouldn't know what to do if i can't find ANYTHING comfortable for my body around the stores
The only time skirts over jeans is okay is if it's Bratz Fashion Pixies. Only time. Ever.

I remember that during the early 2000's I (a kid at the time) would look at old pictures from my family and be like "eeew, high-waisted jeans are so ridiculous! Why was everybody wearing them?"

I remember being younger and hating shopping for jeans because it was so hard to find ones that weren’t low rise and as a chubby girl that was not a look 😭 plus they were so uncomfortable!
Low rise jeans were literally only a thing to make girls feel bad about their bodies, & you can’t tell me other wise

The best thing about y2k is that there wasn’t too much pressure into looking perfect like today.
The make up was very simple, I remember how chilled the awards clothing were.
It was really nice to be alive back then, I remember people looked real in the screens. Their skin had flaws, sweat, lines, texture... You guys have no idea how things were different back then without the whole internet judging you like today.

I’m sooo glad I’m not a teen now or then, like when I was a teen 60’s & 90’s fashion was the thing &, even though it was only a few years ago, I can look back at pictures of me in high school & know I was killing it. High wasted wide leg pants, flannels, croptops, creepers, chokers, middle part with wavy long hair, ughhhhh I was serving. I know my kids will look at those pictures and be like “damn mom was (new slang for sick)”😩😩😩😩😫😫
