It's kind of a testament to how incredible MCR are that this would usually be one of my favourite songs ever, but it still doesn't hold a match to the original.

Good voice, good instrumentals. What needs work is the intent. It kinda feels like these performers don’t quite grasp the meaning of the song which is super important. This isn’t a song where you want to be smiling for the camera or looking cute in. Tell us a story. Show us heartbreak or high stakes! Don’t be afraid of the uncomfortable. Keep up the good work and continue to evolve!

I was not expecting all this negativity in the comments. I thought this was great.
I personally think that covers are meant for bands to really express themselves and change up certain aspects of the Original song and add their own flavor to them. I think First to Eleven did an amazing job with the cover! Yes, the vocals sound a lot more poppy, but that's just their unique version to it. I saw the Red jumpsuit cover and now this one...tbh it's pretty hard to compete with those classics and MCR was an emo band on its upbringing. Helena and Face Down were released during that phase in time, hella emotions and so much meaning in the lyrics. Maybe FtE's cover is supposed to highlight those awesome instrumentals, but instead trying add a poppier sound - which is where I see a lot of newer music going. As much as I grew up listening to MCR, RJA, etc, I won't downplay this version just cuz it's different. Huge respect!
If you strip out the sadness and anger of these songs than It becomes plastic and disposable. I want to see this band get crazy, show feeling.

I think this woulda been better slowed down, twisted a bit into more of a sad ballad... less angsty and more girlie-chick-flick crier... Could be a great original twist on a classic pop-punk/emo legend... but as it stands... great voice, but nor suited for this song.
This is like a Disney version of Helena, voice and instruments overprocessed and lack of emotion. I appreciate it anyway, but I’d like to hear a more raw version.

What y'all don't seem to understand is that a cover doesn't need to be "better than the original" in order to be valid. I, for one, see this as a splendid cover.
I think Helena is a challenging song to cover because it's both emotional and powerful, but I really enjoyed this version and the vocalist has such a beautiful voice.

I know the comments may seem a lil harsh, but here's my humble opinion:
You got everything to make a GREAT Helena cover. Really! As a matter of fact this is not even bad. But if you're truly up to making a GREAT Helena cover I would rec doing a much more raw version of this very same thing. Cause the instrumentation is great. Your voice is amazing. EVERYTHING is great and ready to go. But you need to understand that at the core of this song there is intense heartbreak and grief. It's almost like the song goes through the 5 stages of grief all in 4 minutes. Really focus on the meaning of the song and the meaning behind the words being sung. Try to get behind that heartbroken anger that rides through the entire song. Don't be afraid of it being messy, because that's the point. Grief IS messy, and if you're too worried about making it sound "pretty", then you are sacrificing the very soul of this song, and no matter how perfect you may play it, people are gonna notice.
I hope you take this to heart and that it doesn't offend you. You are doing great. you all have an awesome sound.

I really liked this, made me feel nostalgic! A very cool homage to a song i hold close to my heart. Both your voice and the instruments are so gorgeous and in sync. This cover makes me feel new and different things which not a lot of covers can achieve for me. great singing, great playing, but this song needs a bit more ugliness in it. And i feel like they could do this song justice, but they're (for the lack of a better word) to shy to let the listener feel their emotions? it's a performance, sure. but it shouldn't be that performative.

But it's not bad, and it's certainly not disrespect (glares at M Lefun). I overall give it an 'okay'. I think halocene did a better job of it and they turned it into a ballad. Addie puts so much emotion into her vocals that it actually works!

It's good but I dont think anyone can match Gerard's voice. He has so much emotion in his music. It still sounds good.
The vocal edits are pretty heavy. And of course, the emotion everyone is mentioning.
To all the idiots complaining about this cover, grow up. I am a big time MCR fan but I also love her. She was able to perform this song in a way fits her style and is absolutely amazing. And as far as Gerard goes, his style is different and I love him, too. Stop comparing and enjoy this great cover.
Great song, but (and I know I'm not the first to say this, I just wanna give some helpful advice) maybe try to add a bit more emotion to your singing. You sound amazing, but in the original, Gerard has this tone of heartbreak in his voice that fits with the song. I feel like if you did the same thing, you would be an absolutely phenomenal singer. Not to say you aren't extremely talented, I just feel like you could add so much more. Great work by everyone involved!
