I have about 1000 hours in Skyrim and recently I started playing Dragons Dogma, I have already played about 30 hours. I don’t see absolutely any similar element between these two games except that both games are fantasy RPGs.
I somehow passed this game up when it originally launched and I, like a lot of people, was super happy to hear that it was coming to the Switch. I really don't mind a graphical or performance downgrade if it means I can keep playing when my wife or kids want to use the TV.
I'd heard of this game a couple of times, but I never picked it up or even saw it really. I think I'll be picking it up on Switch now that it's out again ;)

I think it looks and plays great. But having spent a majority of my time on the 360 version, anything is a upgrade really. But I own the X One version too and honestly playing Switch docked I didn't feel it was a huge downgrade or anything. I'll probably be spending most of my play time building my Switch character despite the current gen version being technically better.
This is what confuses me about switch owners??? They are willing to wait around for switch ports for old games which run worse than some of the originals. What are you paying for?? The novelty to play it on a bus?? The switch is impressive for what it does but it get all this credit for running old games yet the one x just got trashed by journalists for essentially doing the same thing but more with 4k hdr new assest and 60fps for free on games we already own and I don't spend a penny. This has been a bias gen for sure
James Somogyi the thing is, it runs ports better than the last gen versions. Why does everyone keep saying the opposite? Every port I’ve played is quite a bit better... Of course it doesn’t run as good as the X1 or PS4, it’s not even in the same league. Me personally, I spend hours in the doctors office and also I travel some. It’s not a novelty that I can sit in a waiting room for an hour playing something like dragons dogma or Skyrim. That’s awesome to me. You don’t like it, that’s cool man, but do you honestly not understand why playing Dark Souls on the go would appeal to other gamers? As for the X1 getting trashed, that might be journalists but not me. I get your point, but just understand the switch does not run ports worst than the 360 and PS3 in most cases but somewhere between last gen and this one. If a port does suck that much it’s the developers fault not the programmers cause it’s been proven what it can do.
It’s also great if I go stay somewhere for a week, much easier to take with me and hook up to a tv there. It’s good for visiting friends and playing multiplayer. It has its benefits. Novelty would be the last thing I would call it.
Having such game in portable is amazing. Unfortunately i can't buy it on my switch cause i am in Russia :(. I play it on PC now but it is not the experience i want to have with this game.
What a great game, very pleasantly surprised. The Switch version is great and runs well. Graphics do look rather dated but it is only a remaster of an old game so I am not too concerned about that. The gameplay and combat certainly make up for any graphical or performance issues it may have. Play it you won't regret it, except that be warned that it is highly addictive and you will waste many, many hours of your time on this!

In some cases it's understandable because some games from last gen work coded to be played at a specific frame rate, one example is LA noir. On the PC version using external program to remove the 30 FPS cap, that breaks things like the driving where your car becomes too sensitive. If the game doesn't have any issues when the frame rate is pushed up, then yeah they should bump the frame rate if possible.
The game works so well on PC I wouldn't be surprised if it could deliver 4k at higher than 60hz. But I'm not going to cough up 1600$ for an Acer Predator X27 to test my theory.
Yep,my pc plays it at 4k 60fps and is half asleep and that was a couple of years ago.will have to reinstall and carry on from where I left it,I remember being pissed off at the finicky fast travel.

I've been waiting for a while on the zone of the Enders 2nd Runner Mars analysis, I wanted to see the comparison of the original ps2 version, ps3, Xbox 360 remaster, and the PS4 and PC remaster as well as the analysis on the VR mode on PSVR, Oculus, and HTC Vive, etc. Hopefully, it will happen eventually.
I am surprised they haven't done videos on Dreams for the PS4 yet. That's one of the more interesting games in recent times on a technical level. Maybe it's because it's in alpha they aren't doing anything on it.
If I have a PS4 Pro and X1X, which version should I play it on? Is the base XOne version missing any PS4 features? If not I might get it for the default X1X texture filtering.
The mere fact that the game is 30 FPS on PS4 as well, shows how flawed this MT Framework engine is when utilized in a true openworld. Sad to see them still use it in DD2, hence the glaring unoptimized mess it is today.
Video Recording mostly take away ram from the console, at least that what Epic games says. When they removed video recording from Fortnite they made a statment thag they needed more ram. It would explain why it have video recording, the texture in the game are bad so it does not uses much ram
Am I like stupid or something or does PS3 and rest have motion blur and switch doesn't? I feel like there is some problem 'cause most ports from last gen don't have motion blur on Switch

Yeah. But even then, it's still very blurry though. And the games not so strong AA leads to shimmering on top of that lol
It really does look fantastic in portable mode. 2+ years and I'm still impressed by having fully featured games on the go; colour me old.
Thank you dragons dogma for all your wisdom! I will always remember that WOLVES HUNT IN PACKS!!!
Harpy! Harpy! Harpy! Harpy! Harpy!
Tis not defeat to flee from battle, master. Tis survival.
The game on Switch dropped to single digits when I was fighting the chained-giant inside Midnight Helix as a mystic knight...
'Even in numbers a weakling is a weakling still'
I have about 1000 hours in Skyrim and recently I started playing Dragons Dogma, I have already played about 30 hours. I don’t see absolutely any similar element between these two games except that both games are fantasy RPGs.
Another good port. Even though there are drops in frame rate in portable it’s better than on last gen.
I somehow passed this game up when it originally launched and I, like a lot of people, was super happy to hear that it was coming to the Switch. I really don't mind a graphical or performance downgrade if it means I can keep playing when my wife or kids want to use the TV.
The downgrade is not very notable aside from a few tweaks its almost the same as the ps4 version, you will love it.
I'd heard of this game a couple of times, but I never picked it up or even saw it really. I think I'll be picking it up on Switch now that it's out again ;)
"vs PS3/PS4/PC" but it was also on Xbox 360/One and you even cover this in the video. Weird.
because it would look even worse stacked up against the X and Digital Foundry always tries to paint the Switch in the best light possible. So they never try to put it up against the X unless it's a favorable comparison.
@@Jaqen-HGhar really untrue!
@@JoVERICAIN
Nope. Very true.
Digital Foundry is constantly giving the switch more credit than its due. We get it you liked it as a portable console, it's really cool to take certain games on the go. But they do definitely carefully choose what not to talk about, or at the very least they downplay a lot of the serious issues.
I'm playing this all over again on my X I loved it on the 360 it's strange and indeed a piety they took away the magnificent title song, wondering if it's down to copyright or something... Still a wonderful game and probably my favourite ever rpg
Does anyone else get really bad colour banding on the PS4 pro at night time? Might be my display but I don't get it on any other game.
Masterwork all, can't go wrong!
Thank you for this upload! I treat your graphical comparisons as a form of reviews for games that I already researched. Other reviews can teach me about gameplay and synopses, but your comparisons show me if I should play the game in portable mode, or enjoy it on my television. I almost wish I bought DD instead of SRt3...
Love you DF can today get any better. So bit of background loving dragon ages orgins and inquisition playing them again (on a high fantasy trip as of late, still love and play elder scrolls etc) and I looked up this game on RUclips been watching reviews and was hoping DF tested it and here we are 😀. Also another win today checked Xbox store for series X and what do you know is on sale, Dragons Dogma Arisen $10 Australian now you can’t go wrong with that and thanks so much again for all you do.
This game is AWESOME!! Played it handheld mode & finished it last night (first time). I'm highly motivated for the second playthrough. Holy shit! This is a MUST play for every RPG fan. The pawn system is totally genious! It's so much fun, improving your own created pawn for other players to use and getting rewards for it, even small nice messages, critics and suggestions. BUY IT NOW!
The game is fantastic on switch
*WHEN'S* - *Dragon's Dogma Dark Arisen: Switch vs PS3/PS4/PC Tested?*
Lemme guess... they didn't use/get to use that portable mode with a higher GPU clock? I mean why wouldn't they if they could or knew about it?
It seems to run hotter to the touch than anything I've played so I wouldn't be surprised.
A near perfekt old school feeling action rpg game. Way better than Skyrim imo
Picked this up on PC for £5 a while back, still not played it yet, too many games in my back catalogue.
@@stolenname94 zero bias, we enjoy handheld gaming. If you don that's fine, but dont hate on our preferences
I wonder if the game would be better at the boosted gpu clock.
Thank you for continuing to cover Switch releases.
I am so proud of Capcom right now.
...I've didn't even realize this port has fps drops! Its that minimal, after over 60 hrs, i didn't even notice.
Yeah i mainly just noticed it in the tutorial and with the dragon cutscene, neither of which really mattered
Poltergeist is it single player? Probably can be played like that but not as fun?
Pay $2 to access this video in 4k here.
Developer should try to render these games in 60 fps in current generation this is so frustrating when u don't get 60 fps those pervious generation console game
Play on PC then
@@JackFrost-1856 don't give childish reply I know that I m just sharing my thoughts and atleast we should expect previous generation console should be render 60 fps on current generation console bro
@@rawraw8446 that depends on many factors, like developer choice, overhead offered by console for 60 FPS, etc etc. And it wasn't childish, I was being realistic. If you want 60 FPS for everything, PC is the way to go
@@JackFrost-1856 I reckon current generation console enough powerful in order to run previous generation games in 60fps its developer mistake they can't focus run these games on 60 fps look other developer like naughty dog last of us rem god of war 3 etc these previous generation games runs on 60 fps on current generation console and graphically wise these games are so good
In some cases it's understandable because some games from last gen work coded to be played at a specific frame rate, one example is LA noir.
But I'm not going to cough up 1600$ for an Acer Predator X27 to test my theory.
you don't need to there are plenty of 400-600$ builds that can max this game out
A Switch Digital foundry video?? Well time to insta like
We need a new Dragon's Dogma with RE Engine.
Dragons Dogma 2 today anounced
I still like the PS3 version. Looks great.
This is the best video comparison.
Max Power Kira
I cannot believe the ps4 can't run the game at 60 fps.
It could but console developers dont care about fps
Really? It has a 4 generations behind failed laptop grade APU in it. It's easy to believe Imo.
Yep,my pc plays it at 4k 60fps and is half asleep and that was a couple of years ago.will have to reinstall and carry on from where I left it,I remember being pissed off at the finicky fast travel.
Das ist ja richtig heftig selbst die PS4 Version hat nur 30 fps
Why, just why would anyone play the switch docked?? It makes absolutely no sense to me. But it makes me furious that docked mode looks and runs better than portable!
Because performance is better, if you want to play at 500p its up to you.
Great video
great! more old games! yes!
How about the Zone of the Enders 2nd Runner remaster?
You'll be waiting a while for that one, we're still waiting for Xenoblade 2 Torna's DLC
They can bring both Zoe, XCX and every project zero. Oh there is too much to ask...
So Saints Row 3 Full Package analysis soon, or never?
2021 and still playing dragon's dogma!
One of the best portable experiences you can have!
Digital Foundry, you gonna be doing a video on the recent release of Yakuza Kiwami 2 on PC?
I wonder why video recording is enabled for this game, and whether removing that could increase stability.
Video Recording mostly take away ram from the console, at least that what Epic games says.
When they removed video recording from Fortnite they made a statment thag they needed more ram.
It would explain why it have video recording, the texture in the game are bad so it does not uses much ram
5:14 900P Native Resopusios? Wut
Native Res it pushes
I just want a sequel
Am I like stupid or something or does PS3 and rest have motion blur and switch doesn't? I feel like there is some problem 'cause most ports from last gen don't have motion blur on Switch
Sniper Elite V2 has blur in places last gen doesn't.
This is the only thing a lot of Switch owners seem to want. Shitty port after shitty port. Any game that was remotely good? Need that shit on Switch asap! I want new goddamn games made specifically for the hardware. Games that take it's lower powered hardware and oddball features into account.
