I actually rubbed her legs down with shea butter and massaged her feet because when I asked her how she was doing she said she was fine, but her legs were hurting. In that moment all I wanted was her to feel comfortable. When we were about to end the visit after she prayed for us she held me in her arms, it was like the whole of Senegal embraced me. I had never felt so loved. My childhood was full of abuse, and I yarned for her embrace. It was very emotional. What reminds me of your encounter is how she prayed for you. When I saw that I cried tears of joy for you. More about my experience: My first trip to Senegal and meeting my husband's family it was like I'd known them my whole life and I missed them. It was like they were my family my whole life, but I hadn't met them until that first meeting. I am deeply happy for you to be so sincerely embraced by your husband's family. When I saw you with the scarf on you, I felt like crying coz for most Africans it’s a way of respecting in-laws. That’s honoring your man too and it costs nothing.
