You guys mentioned that you don't really play with it all that much after buying these expensive robosen transformers. On that note, I find myself not even transforming the normal transformers figures all that much. I display it in a nice pose and just admire it every time I pass by it. I would rather buy 20 newage transformers than 1 robosen grimlock.
If Grimlock had a “patrol mode” where he would explore the room and say random phrases like the Sphero R2D2 I would get it. I don’t want to control every little thing it does. I want it to do it’s own thing.
I have a 6 year old son and the novelty has not even begun to wear off. These robots are all programmable either through the app or through the desktop software. You can create customers movements and chain them all together for longer animated sequences. The bonding time with my son, the nostalgia of being born in 84 and now seeing the most iconic heroes from my childhood come to life and the ability to teach my son programming in the golden age of technology is more than enough value for me personally. These are novelty items for most. Brag pieces for the collection at best. But for hard-core fans, programmers and dad's of modern transformers fans - it is so worth the money.
Grimlock is cool and all but it's hard for me to justify that price even though I got the flagship Prime and trailer. I play with them once in a while and show it like a kid when I have guests. Usually, I just marvel at them from afar. Up close, they don't have the details and intricacies to be impressive like my masterpieces, Chogokins, etc. But aside from controlling them via voice and app, you can program them as well, so that gives the Robosen Transformers additional value and longevity. It's interesting comparing these things to hobby-grade RC, since cost can vary a lot. You can spend a coupl hundred $ on an RTR, or spend more than $500 on a 1/8 truggy kit alone, even more on the electronics and you need spare parts, tools, smart chargers, etc. Then you need to invest more time and money to go places to bash or race them. You're not gonna spend $1000+ on an RC that can go 60mph just to play with it on your front lawn.
I really wish that these Robison were also a digital assistant like Amazon Alexa. It would encourage more interaction and long-term value. I think people are right to worry that they will get bored and buyer’s remorse in a short time. But if I could have Optimus Prime tell me the weather while stomping around and posing on his shelf, that’d be awesome! Like if it’s going to be sunny Prime could shade his eyes and tell me to watch out for Deception attacks at solar power stations. Or if Prime shivered and complained about sluggish oil at temperatures below freezing. Or like if I set a kitchen timer he could pace back and forth muttering about when a bomb would go off. Or Grimlock could say “me Grimlock LOVE dancing” and awkwardly shuffle around if you ask him to play my stereo. I guess my point is we’re only scratching the surface with playability and utility.
I love all of the Robosen figures and I'd save up to buy them, but I know that one of two things will happen: My kids will accidently break them, and I will play with them for a few minutes, then never touch them again. I wouldn't be able to stop myself from buying a Blaster, specially if it can be used as a blutooth speaker.
Prime impresses visitors more than Haslab Unicron (and even my 2000 fibre optic light Star Destroyer). In on Grimlock. But only in on the transforming ones.
i never thought of these things as "robots", always thought of them as toys with motorized gimmick like how MMC Rumble/Frenzy having the motorized piledrivers and one of the Omega Supremes having the motorized tank or even the stupid voice chip things that some MPs have. but yeah the novelty of these things would wear off so fast, i just want dumb toys that look great and can be posed for display
Robosen ROTB Prime can stand without being turned on. I have him on order the ROTB. Has far as Grimlock he is a Masterpiece in fully functional robot. Be blessed
I think these are pieces for a very small selective group that would appreciate them for their entire ownership. For others, it is the ultimate toy that you can't afford as a kid, but don't want it as an adult when you can afford it, like all of those 59.99 games that you don't revisit 1 year later.
My biggest concern is how long these things will stay functional. Motors burn out. Rechargeable batteries go flat and no longer take a charge. I wouldn't want to wake up one day to discover my $1700 toy is a brick.
Not just that, but eventually (whether that be 2 months or 20 years), these companies will probably disappear. Once they do, the apps that control these things will cease to be maintained, and eventually shut down. Even if the piece is still fully functional then, you'll just be left with an incredibly expensive paperweight. I fully expect my BB-8 to be so in the not so distant future.
But that's the way of modern electronics regardless. I bought a 2 grand Samsung laptop - top of the line galaxy book pro 360. Less than a year later the book pro 360 3 was being released. 2 years in now and my touchscreen has phantom touches to the point t it is nearly unusable. Many people have this issue and samsung gives not a single care. Nothing is meant to last forever but these robots can be repaired. Extended warranties are offered by robosen for several years. Good maintenance and care should see these having a damn good lifespan. Proper charging and discharging of the batteries will prove to be what causes most of the failures I bet.
The Grimlock appeals to me more than the Prime, but then I think, I have the Gigasaur Grimlock already, and it looks at least as good, if not better, and can be posed however I want. And then I realize I bought the entire TEAM of Gigasaurs for much, much less than this Grimlock. I get that an actual robot is going to cost more than an normal Transformer, the way a MP style TF will cost more than an 8-inch action figure, but still, it's just too much for what I'm looking for. I mean, I didn't even go in on MP-44, and that was "only" like $440 or whatever.
I'll admit, these are pretty dope & hella expensive. But if they did do a Soundwave that Transforms & could download your own music into it, because of cassette mode, now that would be pretty dope! Just to iterate the RC thing though, yeah, can't upgrade the ones like the one you showed, obviously can't, but as a RC collector, you to someone like Axial or Traxxas, those ones you can upgrade with newer parts, not that anyone cares though. Lol I do wish though, I could get one of these Transformers though, but that price man....ouch...too much money for my liking. Lol
Robosen attended TFNation this past weekend and had all of their current products on display., including the Bumbleebee movie prime, looks great but doesn’t transform similar to the bumblebee. They are all impressive engineering wise, and the price is reflective of what they are and the technology and robotics involved. I agree it’s more geared towards robotic based fans rather than the pure transformers fan and when not being played with is basically a statue. Speaking with them they have recently got licensing for Marvel and are intending on doing an Iron Man figure, they are also looking at other franchises and producing main/leading characters from other franchises and not just transformers. Very impressive but not for me.
I saw them all at TFNation and they were amazing. Grimlock is such an amazing feat of engineering. Robosen also mentioned being able to buy spares for the figures should you accidently break them. Pricey but fantastic.
I feel the same way. The short-lived novelty doesn't justify the price tag. BUT if they make a Soundwave - all logic is out the door.

"just watch it transform and wiggle its hips..." priceless

"Grimlock, set a reminder for 10am for the conference call."
"Rawr, me Grimlock no secretary. Me King!" 😂
Hear me out: a Soundwave that transforms into a functioning Bluetooth speaker with storage for songs. Just sayin THAT I would buy!
I love all of the Robosen figures and I'd save up to buy them, but I know that one of two things will happen: My kids will accidently break them, and I will play with them for a few minutes, then never touch them again.

Totally agree. Under 1k and I would get that Grimmy. As a stand alone cool toy to play with.
What's the speculated production run of the Robosen Prime?
i never thought of these things as "robots", always thought of them as toys with motorized gimmick like how MMC Rumble/Frenzy having the motorized piledrivers and one of the Omega Supremes having the motorized tank or even the stupid voice chip things that some MPs have.

robosen and missing link are now my top most wanted

If its 1 Robosen i get it’s definitely the Grimlock
This line appeals to the normies and the modern day definition of a "nerd".

Great points from all! I wouldn’t kick it out of bed for eating Insecticons in it.
If it could eat Insects it would definitely be worth the price.

As cool as these figures look the price alone turns me away
I won the Prime for mree so Im maybe biased but wow, I saw rhat Grimlock and I wish I could go for that Grimlock!

Bobby, your commitment to your channel is commendable. I am impressed.

Subjective, for sure. But Robosen just doesn’t do it for me. If I wanted something that barely moves and wiggles when I touch it, I know where to go
