Hello Dave! You are so right! They went above and beyond on their customer service and I will always push their company for that! I am also writing them a letter of appreciation for their gesture. Thanks so much!
My very first workbench was made out of a solid core door that a company I was working for had thrown out. I left it at the house when I sold it, for all I know it could still be there being used. :D It made a perfect work bench!
I love your shop. I can't imagine moving all that stuff! Wow! I hope you reconsider tackling that yellow clamp. I think you would make it look awesome.
I've been off my normal RUclips watching these past few weeks....we just moved 1000 miles. Just catching up....loving the mish-mash Monday content. Thanks, John!
If you haven't decided Kalamazoo is kind of nice. Lot's of housing and a pretty good night life. Besides that there is a great community of builders in the area. 😎 When you do move I suggest renting a storage space and putting anything you might toss in there for a month or two while you move and get settled. I found a lot of things that I got rid of that would have been handy and well worth the $100.00 to give me a couple months of think time.
Ahhh, moving. We last moved 18 years ago and we still have stuff in the removal company boxes. After death and divorce they say moving is the next most stressful thing so take care. Love the shop tour and looking forward to seeing more corners of the shop. Great video as always and the very best wishes from across the pond.
Oh yeah. One of my favorite work benches is from an old door from a hospital. It was so heavy one man could not lift it. Your shop is very organized and well thought out.
I like the idea of using old solid doors for a workbench!! I've been keeping my eye out for some as well. The drawers came out great and I'm sure you're happy with the extra storage. Great tour of the power tools and the tool store!! I'll volunteer if you need help packing up for the move!! Better get started now as it may take a few years and a forest worth of boxes. 😂👍
Hi Steve! I've been buying loads of buckets for the tools... They seem to hold up better then boxes. I bought those doors at National Wholesale Liquidators on 110 about 25 years ago!!!!! LOL Are they still there?
Not anymore. They still have their name on the old A&S then Caldor building in West Babylon where I grew up but it's all boarded up. I always keep my buckets and grab more when I find them. Got most from work from the maintenance guys after they laid down salt in the Winter.
Great mish-mash! I totally agree, tall work benches are great. I never thought to mention it before, but everything in my shop has been adapted so that i can move whatever it is with my pallet jack. Those modified pallet type basis add 4 inches to everything. Great stuff, cheers.
Hi Joe! You are so right! My next shop I will have every machine on pallets!!!!! The only way to go! Plus more room! LOL I saw you mentioned on Mr. Pete's video yesterday! Awesome!!!! The Post Office always loses stuff!!!!!! I can tell you horror stories!!!!
I love your shop. You use every inch of that puppy. I'd hate to move your stuff, the cans, jars of fasteners alone would be a truckload! You don't know how much stuff you have until you move. Great mini tour though. Those forged C-clamps are great. Can't wait for more projects!
Hi Aaron! I know! I am so stressed over the move! I spent my whole life gathering all types of cool stuff and the thought of leaving it makes me hyperventilate! LOL!!!!!
LOL! Actually it would be great job security! The hard part for me is leaving behind stuff I accumulated like all my hardware and metal and wood, always saving them for that special project!
Bondus is great. I have a set of screwdriver handled Ball Drivers that i got in 1976. For die work being able to drive socket head screws at an off angle is invaluable. 😆😎
Great video, you have proved the fact that you don"t always have to have drawer slides, and it's quicker, easier and you'll never have to replace the slides. Excellent, thanks!
Hi Mike! You are so right! A roll away tool box is great for stuff you use all the time but these simple drawers are deep and long and can hold lot of weight for little work and cost.... Really a great upgrade considering most workbenches are way too short! Thanks!!!!!!!!
There is a Travers showroom and distribution center in Duncan SC (you can see it from I-85) between Spartanburg and Greenville. Worth a stop to go into the large overstock/discontinued sales room (leave your wallet in you car otherwise you'll go home with the trunk full). Travers and McMaster-Carr are the go-to distributors for industrial grade tools and supplies in the Southeast. If one doesn't have what you need, the other probably does. When you call, a person answers who treats you like your business is really important to them.... which is why they get my business. Cheers from NC/USA
Yes! I think the SC office is their main office.. They are super friendly and like you said don't give you an attitude if you only place a small order! I even told the president that when I spoke to him, I said "I know you are running a great company because everyone is happy and like their jobs, that means more then you know" We hit it off ever since then! McMaster Carr is the tops as far as having everything but getting a catalog from them is a bit difficult. =) Thanks!!!!!!!
I have a fraction amount of tools you do in a large double wide garage. I am both ashamed of how disorganized mine is and admire how organized yours is. Time for me to turn 2 and get my act together. You sir are a true craftsman, I salute your skills and innovation.
Tom! We all get un-organized every so often because of time constraints and getting too much stuff... The rule of thumb is if you don't use it in three years toss it but with a shop that don't work! We have screws and nails that are waiting just for that day when we need them! LOL We just need better ways to store stuff! LOL Thanks so much!!!!!!!
@@ScoutCrafter I have coffee cans with fasteners in them. When I toss something I take all the fasteners off and save them. The I will waste an hour searching instead of going to the hardware store and completing the task in 10 minutes Lololololol
My mom and dad made so many work tables from old doors in their Brooklyn shop. But then my dad found out about Birch Plywood and was hooked on that since it had such a smooth finish on top of it. I had an entire box of Bondhus hex sets the first time I went to the LI antique tool show, a contractor bought it up for $35. Even if you break them you can send them back and they will replace them, no questions ask. Other companies treat their hex tools as consumables because of all the torque force on them.
Hi Kent!! Years back Home Depot got a load of Baltic Birch Plywood from Russia or someplace and I bought 30 sheets and made all my furniture from it!!!!! That stuff was awesome but cutting it you NEEDED a mask!
Hi Mark! You're right! What I really need is a way to enclose my "dirty" machines like the grinder and buffer, they make such a mess!!!!! =) Next shop I will have a special dirty room! For grinding and sanding and everything that makes a ton of dust! Thanks!!!!!!!
I too like my workbench higher. That's a very clever solution you implemented to raise your bench height. (looking at the drawer bottom... you obviously have an overstock of screws). Enjoyed the vid as always.
Hi Joe! Yes! The Ply on Ply works very good. I remember I had a drawer that had masonite on masonite and it was like on bearings! LOL Remember the MDF craze in the 80's!!!!!
I love good stores with good customer service. Gosh, it's harder and harder to find friendly people much less good customer service. Believe it or not, the Harbor Freight I use has probably the best customer service I've ever seen! Thanks buddy.
Hi Lloyd! I agree 100% My Harbor Freight is awesome customer service!!!! Hard to find is right! Most places treat you like they don't need you!!!! Thanks!!!!
Finally got to see the mill. All my workbenches are 3/8" plate but my computer room desks are made from door blems. I'm supposed to move too but I still can't figure out what to do with all the stuff? I wish you luck with that one. 😁 Thanks for the tour video I always enjoy seeing someone else's mess!
I've made workbenches from old solid core door too. They work great. If your drawers get hard to slide, you could rub paraffin on the sliding surfaces.
Hope you have about a 5 year lead time for moving. It will take you a while to go through everything. I moved from a big house to a garage apartment 1 year ago and I'm still trying to find stuff. The only advantage since retiring is I get to travel about half the year. I liked your idea for the door workbench tops. Good video Scout.
LOL Virginia, one thing I found out a long time ago is you can have as much fun in a 8x8 foot shop as you can in a large shop! We all dream of bigger and better equipped shops but when you look back at some of your most enjoyable work it was often done with minimal space and tools! =) Thanks so much!!!!
nice shop you have Scout Crafter lots of good equipment and great ideas to set it up. I know what you mean about good tool companies looking after you. I got one of those Arrow hammer staplers at a yard sale but it was missing the part that holds in the staples. I contacted the company the part was i think $5. us between exchange and shipping it would have been $20. the guy told me don't worry about it and sent me the part free Arrow staples is an excellent company.
Cory! LOL YES! They always bothered me and I am sorry it took so long to rectify the problem! They really came thru and are an awesome company! I am going to write a thank you letter!!!!!!
Thanks for the great tour of the shop. You showed the gas meter and I've noticed the electric meters on one of the walls. How do the guys read those? Here they are all outside in the front yard against the house. In fact the electric has some sort of little transmitter so the reader doesn't have to get out of the truck. - Kathie
Hi Kathie! Yes! All the new homes have the updated meters and they are slowly updating the older meters to radio transmit the info in... Mine are old and such a pain to read! The Con Edison meter checker comes every month to read the meters but I'm not always up so I have to send my readings in but they don't always go thru.. A real mess!!!! Radio meters are much better!
You know the very second you get the shop straightened out you'll get the call to start moving and up will go the camera and the new shop will look like a proving ground for a-bomb powered heavy equipment. But you'll get it. Might even need an annex like Uncle Sneelock! Thanks CS and BLESSINGS!
@@ScoutCrafter You'll get organized again. You are now and when you get where you're going you can stack stuff sort of where it'll go. It'll all work out just fine!
You have enough tools and parts to sink a ship. How long has it taken to accumulate all of it? Where are you going to move to a warehouse haha! Keep em coming great channel!!
Hi Will, My next shop will have a ton of space I can assure you! I really always liked a basement shop... I am just used to it I guess.. So I need a huge basement! =)
Tony! I am slowly getting all my stuff together that I want to take with me... I am giving myself 2 years. I am stressed everytime I think of moving! The good thing is I can sell my house fast because of location.
Great video. Good idea for the bench and wow your moving from Brooklyn! Based on what we see in the basement and attic you have your hands full. Where do you plan to move too? Wish you the best. Thanks
Hi Tony! Queens! You're right! HUGE move! I have some nice stuff I don't want to leave behind... But the weight of some things don't warrant the cost to move,,, Thanks!
Hi Paul! I want to move in about 2 years, looking for a nice State that is of old fashioned values. I live in Queens now and this place is unrecognizable from when I was a kid. The "City" politics and values are not mine and they keep cramming more and more people into this place! I want small town values and neighbors that feel the same... =) (plus acreage)
Hi Zachary! I never liked living in the city... Ever since I was 8 years old and visited a relative upstate. I saw hundreds of trees and deer and no neighbors... I remember telling my parents on the way home "One day I will live like this" ever since then I felt like a fish out of water... =) Thanks!!!!!
I completely understand. We live outside the city limits in the country with pastures as our front and rear view. I’ve seen some videos of you working on some acreage so I can understand that being your dream destination. Good luck to you on the move.
Ok if you get a barn I’ll be well jealous. I really think your channel can grow to the point where a few ads could generate extra money so you can buy more wonderful items to show us. I’ve known a few people where they seemed to go from 10,000 to 50,000 very quickly. Your at 14k and it wasn’t long ago when you were 10k. Lots of viewers are happy to sit through a few ads to support the channel.
Scout, at the risk of being a know-it-all, I gotta ask, do those drawers really need handles? They seem to work great just as they are - it's a less is more kinda thing. Thanks so much, every one of your vids inspires me in one way or another.
I think you are right! I was using them for a while yesterday and the gap at the top is plenty to allow a good grip! So I think I will leave them like this! Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Alex! Oh yeah! LOL Long Island is nice but too expensive and crowded. I just don't want to hear, see or smell my neighbors! Coming from Queens you can imagine how that becomes a dream! LOL
National Wholesale Liquidators used to have runs of oddball stuff cheap! These doors are super heavy but really strong and straight! $15 each! Sweet! LOL
Thanks so much! Years back I bought a "lot" of drawer slides surplus, they are great but with 34" drawers they are a little short! LOL Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!
I reduced an Amish made pure oak entertainment center from 54x27x56 to 54x27x24 for the big flat panel. One slide extends 36" was for a turntable pull out. I still have the other third which would make a beautiful student desk, just needs a top.
I see you are still using your Delta DP 350 and it hasn't joined the rest of us who have them and are ready to throw them out, because of those inferior drive pulleys. When is the big move? Don't envy that one!!
LOL- It seems there is no shortage of that here! The money they are spending to live in this neighborhood is ludicrous! If I never stepped foot in manhattan again it would be fine with me... People want to live close to where they work I guess...
LOL You know Mike, it finally gets to a point where you are struggling and then you are miserable and say enough! =) Then you clean up and six months later it's back! =D
It kills me but Queens is way too crowded and I never felt at home in a big city. I need acreage and quiet, along with lots of animals that I can feed and look out for! =)
First, John I want to say - You're the Ace of Space,,, you know how to use every bit of space you have so efficiently. Wow, I still can't believe you have that awesome shop in a basement!... but then I hear that you're moving,,, so I'm really excited for you, because I have a feeling it's going to be a location that you will have your shop you always wanted,, and should have,, real happy for ya. Great video like always.
Hi Todd! Hopefully I will get a nice spread and shop like yours! My shop is like that you would find on a Submarine! LOL I really enjoyed your shop tour and how you set everything up! One thing important for me is climate control 24/7 in the shop! I know how uncomfortable it is to work in a cold or hot shop and what it does to the tools! Thanks Todd!!!!!!
You've just inspired me to organise my little set up, !! It's so easy to let things get messy, but so enjoyable when everything looks neat and tidy... Also, I'm gonna get rid of stuff, (and cheap tools,) that I never use,,! Thanks for the kick up the backside, to sort my shed out,,, all the best from sunny England,, cheers, John ..
Thanks for showing and the mention! That clamp is so gorgeous! Sometimes the combination of certain paints and the shape of something just work so well together, regardless of how otherwise wacky the color or the condition of the item/finish. I'd say just straighten the handle and leave the original paint alone, it has so much character! Those doors for bench tops are awesome too, I'd really like to salvage something like that myself. Good idea with the drawers instead of just blocking up the whole bench.
Hello LR! It's funny how as you get older, comfort means so much more. I have those anti-fatigue mats in front of the bench and they are great! Also the height of the machines really make them so much more enjoyable to use. I am 6'1" and I really love a tall workbench. (Unless I'm sitting) lol Thanks!!!!!!!!!
Thank's for your video of showing your basement shop - good luck when it comes down for you to start packing up everything to move - I noticed in one of your past videos there is a Marionette Doll hanging from the ceiling can you tell a story about that in a video -
Hi Pete!!! OMG! I just recently gave an explanation of the marionette on a video I did... I just can't remember what video it was!!! My Buddy Cliff (MrDoeboy356) asked about it and I showed it in detail! It's bugging me now because I looked at a bunch of older videos trying to see which one it was but can't remember! Darn I hat that! LOL I will keep looking Pete!!!
Howdy, good to see ya. A year ago I had an auction for a guy, he had 6 large c clamps, all painted an ugly orange, he told me that he painted them with some industrial paint his dad had from the 40's or 50's, he gave them 8 to 10 coats. I got them for a few dollars(Nobody wanted them, to orange) What ever the paint, it is tough, during a blizzard in the winter, I tried to strip one, it was an effort of futility, I guess I have 6 ugly orange clamps, but they work good. Hey nice video, Thanks

Hi Kathie!
Thanks so much ScoutCrafter. I enjoyed the shop tour. I hope you are moving to a bigger space. lol
Vaughn
You have all the best toys! You win! Thanks for the look of your shop! 1/6? Does that mean we get 5 more looks at your shop?
Yes! That was just the beginning... The rest is coming as I clean thru it!
@@ScoutCrafter WOO! HOO! For the next one I'll make a sandwich and REALLY enjoy myself!
The Bondhus stuff is nice 👍🏻
They are such a great company!!!! I will always buy their stuff now!
Great tour John ,thanks. I'll bet you have stuff stored away that you don't even remember having.I know I do ,,lol.
LOL Lou! I always love finding things I thought were long gone!!!!!! Happens everytime I clean up! =D Thanks!!!!
Yeah. And its usually something i just had to buy again . lol
Awesome shop love it Scout
Nice shop
You know the very second you get the shop straightened out you'll get the call to start moving and up will go the camera and the new shop will look like a proving ground for a-bomb powered heavy equipment. But you'll get it. Might even need an annex like Uncle Sneelock!
Thanks CS and BLESSINGS!
I am so dreading it Lewie! =) Who ever thought this day would come!? =) Thanks!!!
@@ScoutCrafter You don't really have to heat and cool a basement shop. Pretty constant temperature year round.
Good video, great idea with the draws. And moving well you better start now you have way too much to be waiting for the last minute! 👍 👍 Lol! 😆
I am totally dreading it!
Now THAT is customer service! Should be more companies like Bondhus.
You are so right! I am totally a fan of them now!!!! Dona (how she spelled it) was awesome too!!!!!!! Thanks!!!
Did you say you were moving? To move all your stuff would be a big logistics headache. Do you have an inventory of all the tools you have?
Why does Bondhus have two different size T handles with the same part number?
Could you tell us a little about the move. I love your shop. Thanks for the videos
@@ScoutCrafter Thanks for the reply. I hope you find a good place. Thanks Paul
Hate to hear that your moving. Seems like you have a great place there.
I have about twelve hammers, does that make a hammerolic also?
Well, Thereyago!! I knew that would work!!
My fav video. How many sq.ft. in shop ?
So for your new home, will the workshop be bigger ?
LOL! Oh Yes!!! I want a HUGE basement and a barn... The basement for the workshop and the barn for toys! I always liked a basement workshop... =)
I made my work bench from old barn beams! And I like them nice and high too!
Are you gonna leave long island?
Hi Alex! Oh yeah! LOL Long Island is nice but too expensive and crowded. I just don't want to hear, see or smell my neighbors! Coming from Queens you can imagine how that becomes a dream! LOL
If it's not a mess you aren't working hard enough,Shop teachers favourite saying!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
LOL Another old timer had a funny quote "A clean shop is the sign of a sick mind" =D
THANK YOU...for sharing. Very nice shop.
cool i have 4 solid core doors kicking around
National Wholesale Liquidators used to have runs of oddball stuff cheap! These doors are super heavy but really strong and straight! $15 each! Sweet! LOL
that's a good price
As a professional, Bondhus HEX and Torx wrenches are my only GOTO choice, period. Let me know if you'd like some ball bearing slide rails.
Shop tour! . I like to see a box tour.are u moving becuase you ran out of tool space 😁
You need a new tools box! A BIG roll away!!!!!!! =D
I was wondering how long it would take you to move upstate.
Hi Dale! Can you imagine how crazy this move will be!? Unless I leave 3/4 of my stuff behind...
@@ScoutCrafter Even my imagination has a hard time fathoming it.
sweeet
👍🏻😃
Good 👍👍👍
Yeah, my wife's got OCD too. But she don't touch my tools.
Oh my r u selling the house b4 the Chinese money dry up?
LOL- It seems there is no shortage of that here! The money they are spending to live in this neighborhood is ludicrous! If I never stepped foot in manhattan again it would be fine with me... People want to live close to where they work I guess...
Where do you live currently and where are you planning on moving to? It seems like that might be quite the challenge.
Queens NY and going to ??? Mayberry?!?! LOL
ScoutCrafter Say hi to Barney for me!
ALWAYS something to clean-up. mine is ten times worse.
LOL You know Mike, it finally gets to a point where you are struggling and then you are miserable and say enough! =) Then you clean up and six months later it's back! =D
You just can't have too many drill presses!!!!
LOL Jim! Honestly, the drill press is one of my most used tools! The Radial Arm Saw is the least used!!!! =P Thanks!!
You shouldn't move I guess you were there many years and you could save your money for vacations.
Travis Tool Company. Ooooohhh Channelock. A guy could lose his paycheck in there fast.
LOL Jesse, years back I was buying so much stuff from them I jokingly asked the President if I could just direct deposit my check there! =D
@@ScoutCrafter haha that's hilarious. Can't beat little specialty stores like that.
Geez you could kill an elephant with that clamp!
LOL! It's big and hefty! I want to do it up nice but I think that paint is going to fight me! LOL Thanks!
Yeah, there is no way you’re moving... 🤣
LOL I have no choice... =D My Mom used to say the same thing! LOL
Move? Did the White House fire you, too?
LOL- Retired 2 years ago this month!!!!
Moving?! I thought this was the house you grew up in-why move now?

Thanks for the kick up the backside, to sort my shed out,,, all the best from sunny England,,
cheers, John ..
Hi John! I too have to let things go! I have a tough time doing that! LOL Thanks so much!
Hi Scoutcrafter . . . Guess I am driving you crazy now to find that video in your collection if not it's ok
but keep looking ( lol )
Howdy, good to see ya. A year ago I had an auction for a guy, he had 6 large c clamps, all painted an ugly orange, he told me that he painted them with some industrial paint his dad had from the 40's or 50's, he gave them 8 to 10 coats. I got them for a few dollars(Nobody wanted them, to orange) What ever the paint, it is tough, during a blizzard in the winter, I tried to strip one, it was an effort of futility, I guess I have 6 ugly orange clamps, but they work good. Hey nice video, Thanks
John
If you need to clamp that belt sander down, I know a guy with a 13" bright yellow C clamp. I'm just helping.
Your shop looks great.
