Really? I never read the whole story, but I thought it made complete sense. Most of this is just exposition from Chara and Asriel, anyway, so you get the basics of what you need to know from that.

beside that Vade is picking out the pearls but also really deep comics like "a thorn in my side" and "Sooner or Later You're Gonna be Mine" they just have one layer
this one goes a lot deeper and further into the undertale lore
i mean, Asriel as guardian angel, Chara, angel of death (or whatever), both talking about the laws of the universe, contracts and outcomes
that's mostly stuff that you hear from Gaster ^^'
