  • Do you know the exact Spanish equivalents of "you should", "you have to", "you must", "you might", "you ought to"? In this video I am going to explain exactly what the equivalent of each word is in Spanish. So I will clear things up about all these words for you so you do not waste more time learning some nonsense that is in your books. Are you ready to learn this? Are you ready to clear this up in your head so you do not make the same mistakes ever again in Spanish? In Spanish we have "debes" as well as "debes" followed by the preposition "de", so we have "debes" y "debes de". Though they look quite similar, they actually have a very important difference. If "debes" is followed by a verb in infinitive, it becomes an order: "debes estudiar" -- you have to study. I do not care, you have to study if you want to learn Spanish. On the other hand, "debes de estudiar", is like saying you probably study a lot. That is to say you speak Spanish very well so my guess is you probably study a lot, "debes de estudiar mucho". Now, we have the "should" problem. What is "should" in Spanish? Well, let me tell you that the work of should in Spanish is done by the conditional of the verb "debes", "deberías". This conditional of "debes" makes the suggestion. So you can say: you should study. Otherwise you will not speak Spanish ever. Now, there are other nuances of these words so if you are interested in learning them, watch my video and learn more Spanish :))
If you learning Spanish and you are feeling like learning verbs today, watch my playlist with many lessons about Spanish verbs, Spanish tenses, Spanish verb conjugation, and common Spanish expressions using verbs:

I've actually been corrected by a native speaker a couple of times when used DEBES DE in the way you teach here, and I was confused! It helps to know that native speakers don't know the grammar rule, so I'm sure that's why it happened. I won't doubt myself again!
De hecho alguien me ha corregido al usar DEBES DE como Ud. enseña aquí, y me confundí mucho. Me sirve bastante saber que incluso los hablantes nativos no saben bien la regla de gramática, por eso me hace sentir más segura de por qué me pasó así. Voy a sentirme más segura en adelante. ¡Gracias, profe!

I share my native Spanish with you, and you share your native English with me... Just in a very casual way, cause of course we both have limited time, as I am an insurance agent here in CR. And I can imagine you have your business. Let me know if it is interesting for you, so we can share more details. Have a great night and excuse this unorthodox way, I ve always thought everyone have imagined someone doing this.... And, this is me!!!!

Do you have a video explain how Spanish differs to English in the way it makes a phrase in English such as "Fruit salad" into "Ensalada de frutas"? ...The fact that almost any word in English can act as an adjective such as "fruit" in this example where it can't in Spanish and requires "de" is something I have trouble with. I have never seen any lessons anywhere going into this and is well worth going into I think. Some nouns in Spanish seem to have an adjective form while others don't.
