My Dad had this exact car that he bought brand new when I was three years old. I can remember driving it it. I even have nice pictures of it when it was new! Same exterior and same interior colors.
I grew up basically in a car just like that, ours was a matador not pioneer but same basic wagon. Kids today will sadly never know the joy of riding in a station wagon, especially in the rear facing back seat...as a kid I sat in that seat and looked at the front of our winnebago travel trailer for many a mile...aah the memories!
Dad bought a new one in 1960. Ours had the reverse seat in the back and an electric window. Great memories! If it comes up for sale I would be interested.
That car looks solid on the exterior. Certainly there must be someone with a little excess cash that can make it look good. It might be expensive or even impossible to make the inside original again. But I would think the outside could be saved.
I have seen worse cars in pretty bad condition restored to like NEW it's worth it! Think of it this way, it is a piece of American automotive history, in design, anyway. It is worth restoring! Someone will grab it, I wish I had the $$$ to save it! The son sounds like one of these guys who just wants to hold onto it for memories sake, I remember an old lady who had a great wrecking yard near where I live and all the 40's and 50's cars she had, supposedly were all in storage for people. Yeah, sure! She lost her husband decades ago, so I think just holding onto the cars was her way of pretending he was alive. Kinda weird, but she would NEVER sell a whole car, though it was up to the doors in dirt. Only a few cars she would let u get parts off of. I wanted a 58' Olds pink and black last registered in 78', she said it was in storage! REALLY??!
The hood latch is/was stuck, the owner, who's in her 90's told me not to mess with it... no promises, but I'll ask her son if there's a chance we can try to open it... GHL
The owner was offered six grand two month's ago and he still hasn't moved on it; all I can do is remind him that people are still very interested... GHL

Drove one of these for my cousin to my aunt's house. It was the first time to drive a car by myself. I was probably 13.
This car is RARE. It should be restored and shown. It needs to live.
That car is in great condition for its age . I sure hope it found a good home. I would love that car and be proud to bring it back to lufe

I had a '60 Pioneer Wagon, Bronze over Pink with a 2spd and 318. It was stolen in the early '90s.

I am guessing it is worth $5000 and up in this condition ! Wagons are really hard to find any more.
