Well with quite a heavy heart, after well over 40 years in service, we say goodbye to the last Intercity 125 HST's in public service. Cross Country have been the last operator of "full length" HST's capable of the designed 125mph, unlike the short ScotRail sets and GWR's castle sets both of which can only do 100mph.
Monday 18th September will be the final services in regular passenger traffic for XC.
On Tuesday 26th September Cross Country are running a HST farewell tour from Leeds to Swanage and back and on Friday 29th it will run from Plymouth to Blackpool & back both of these are private charters, which will require prebooked tickets to travel on them. After that they will be off lease and no longer operational.

The HST had a simple, elegant beauty that nothing's quite matched since
Nice video Tom from Hungary.💗🤍💚
Sad to see another great HST be retired from service.
Highly enjoyable video; interestingly finishing at Glasgow Central, not a location I normally associate with these trains. But a fine tribute to a legendary class. Some of us didn't appreciate them while we had them; I was one such person. 😞 Thank you for producing this!
The first time I went on it was to Tamworth, then I saw it again at Derby. I couldn't imagine how lucky I was to go on it, They'll be sadly missed.
The CrossCountry HSTs will be missed
Just a strange feeling that there's nothing replacing them HSTs , just the super voyager.
They are going to be getting avanti west coast class 221 voyages
As avanti are getting new Hitachi class 805 807 locomotives
That’s their time in service now over and done with
Super compilation; hopefully they will be preserved and not sent to Mexico like some others
The Blackpool Private charter is not happening now, it's been cancelled with the strikes and OT Ban.
In the year 2002, when it was called VT - Virgin Trains 🚆, there were plenty of class 43s used on the routes that ran between Scotland 🏴, northeast, northwest of England 🏴 and the south and southwest of England 🏴 via the West Midlands, Birmingham in England 🏴. By then, class 220s and 221s replaced the class 43s. It’s a real shame to see class 43s go because they are good 👍 trains 🚆. The speed on class 43s are 125mph. I spect that the 5 car class 221s AW - Avanti West Coast trains 🚊 will be transferred to XC - CrossCountry to replace the class 43s because the brand new class 805s and 807s will be delivered to AW - Avanti West Coast. Could it perhaps 🤔 happen if class 43s will go to preserved railways 🚃 🚆. 👍👍👍👍👍
It makes no sense to retire them.
GWR and CrossCountry HSTs are retiring due to high maintenance costs
@@maimadhaSurely no more expensive than to maintain the Voyagers? It’s not like they still have the Valenta engines…
@@maimadhaThe last two. Respect to the both of them for holding off this long.
@@TheMerlinRailway Don't forget Scotrail
