This video is fantastic!! I love how you broke down this so clearly. It’s always amazing to see creators like you making language learning accessible and fun. As a fellow language enthusiast and teacher, I completely agree with your point about being withing everyone's reach. I often see students struggle and it's something I address in my English and French classes. Thanks for the inspiration-I’ll definitely be incorporating some of these ideas into my lessons! Looking forward to more great content from you!
Setting up this kind of system has been a game-changer for me, helping me study consistently and effectively over the past two years. Every Sunday, I plan activities for the upcoming week based on my schedule and what’s happening in my life. My main goal is simply to tick off these activities from my habit tracker, and that’s what’s kept me motivated and making steady progress without feeling overwhelmed. I’ve also noticed that the activities I do now are way more effective than what I used to do. Having a clear plan stops me from just doing random things. For example, I might set an activity like watching a video, reading the comments, and then speaking or writing about it. If I’m finishing a book or show in my target language, I’ll plan to write a review as one of my activities for the week. Fluency is still the end goal, but I’ve learned that focusing on the process and enjoying each step along the way is what really matters.
I really appreciate how honest and realistic you are, it's important to have good clear goals and routines but also ackowledge, accept and move on from the inevitable hiccups and failures in life. They happen to everyone but it is in our power to decide how much impact we let these hiccups have on our overarching life, systems, habits, mindset etc. It is very refreshing to see this from such an accomplished individual.
Tracking consistency with a calendar is such a simple yet super effective habit.💪📆 I’ve been using this method for a while now to track my consistency with learning English.😊🇺🇸 Thanks for the video, Luca, and Happy New Year!🎇👍
Buon Anno Luca !🥂 this afternoon, walking my dog in my french city, I met a woman who spoke english and an other one from Spain. J'ai profité de l'occasion pour parler un peu de chaque 🎉. Takk Luca !😅
Set realistic goals for yourself- 30 minutes to an hour a day. Keep it stupid simple- and stick to it. Avoid juggling between a lot of different apps and textbooks. Do what you like, don’t force yourself to do anything extremely boring or overly challenging. You’ll burn out. Forget the CEFR scale (A1, A2, B1, B2, ect.), especially if you’re just starting out. The lines between the levels blue together more often than not. There’s no point in worrying about what level you are and comparing to others- worry about what you know, what you don’t know, and what you want to know. I saw a video a few days ago. A woman had started running in 2021 because she was overweight. Not obese- but she probably had an extra 30-40kg. Trust me, this is going somewhere. And no, I’m not body-shaming this woman. So what did she do? She started running on her treadmill. A couple km a day. After a year there was a bit of a difference. Not a lot, but a difference. The next year she ran a 5k. The year after that a half marathon. By 2024 (3 years after starting) she ran a marathon and looked completely different. That’s what realistic language learning and self improvement looks like. Consistency and time. Motivation and passion go a long way, but they don’t always show up when you need them to.
Best wishes for 2025! Good advice, and some of them apply to life in general too. My plan for this year is to prioritize the improvement of my mental health. Then in language learning, I already have a routine, but most of all is passive learning because it's based on my working schedules, so I'll only try to do more deliberate practice at home.
“Accept the fact, that life happens.” (Car on fire) My language learning in 2024. 😅 There’s a new language motivation that came upon me early December. It’s going to be a great language learning 2025. Consistency is key. 👍🏼
My 12 week goals for the 1st quarter are: 1) dedicate 2 hrs in the morning to Russian (Pimsleur, Assimil, Hoepli manuals) 2) dedicate 1 hr each evening to Italian (active reading, writing, listen to a podcast)
yes, sure...but getting it done one step at a time. I thought there were a ton of good suggestions/ useful reminders here. The real stuff. Working on my January calendar now, ....
I'm finally at a point where i am enjoying reading. I am reading the soanish version of Good Omens. I put down Japanese for acwhile because o fekt i was bad at learning but now I see it just takes time.
You have given such great advice throughout this video. It is so important to consider that you won't be fluent in a matter of months, yet a lot of people tend to give up after realizing that motivation is not the main key to keep going. In my case i set up my own schedule to study english two hours a day which has been a big help, and still there is some much to be learned. Great video!
Hi Luca, happy 2025 to you! I would like to hear more about your own routines. Do you yourself sit down on Sunday to make a week plan? When you start your day do you actually write down the time in hours, for instance between 9 and 10 I’ll do my language learning? Do you set an alarmclock to stay focused etc. You once mentioned your own morning routine in a video, but I can’t find it! I think it would motivate people to see how you yourself go about these routines.
9:26 I was surprised you used Langua for Hungarian, because it doesn't have it... But you can always use it as the translate to language. An AI tool for language learning, prepared with various scenarios? Wow.
Interesting observation. From the way I formulated the sentence it looked like I used Langua with Hungarian, which is not the case (I used it mainly for Greek but I also toyed with the App when it comes to Swedish and a few other languages. More about it in the next video!
My strategy of learning languages is to understand the meaning of 100 words and apply. Then after using them over and over, I learn other 100 words. I never force myself to memorise complicated words .
Hey Luca! I want to learn Turkish with Assimil but there is only the French version and I don’t know French. Do you think it’s a good idea to buy the resource in French for Turkish and then translate it to English and does the audio contain a lot of French explanations? Or do you think I should instead go with a course like Turkish class 101 (innovative language)? Cheers! /Alex
Do you have any tips for not being able to Roll r's for 15 years? Just puts me off every language other than french because it's just rolled at bottom of mouth and don't seem to have a problem with it. Can't do spanish polish russian romanian swedish german or any of the other hundred languages that interested me because of it unfortunately. Watched as many youtube vids as possible over the years. Putting pencil under tongue, doing exercises, speaking to natives from other countries that do it. Just can't seem to get it to work, listened to many examples of speech using it and it just comes out effortless, some polish people told me it's a muscle to hold the base in place while the tip is loose so if the muscle can't do it then it's game over. Thoughts?
luca i used to watch every of your videos because you were so natural and simple. I can't bear the strategy you chose for the design of your videos. It's so much prepared, so scripted, it's painful to watch. You probably wanted to use the strategy people say work in improving your views but you lost me personally. I miss your videos juste talking about subjects. Now I feel it's a robot with your voice that talks. You chatgpted yourself. You are like any other channel.
Luca, I understand you wanna be Polish but with that big smile on your face it will be rather impossible. Perfect polish smile looks like this: 😐 Dasz radę, keep trying!

I came in here to say
HEY, DON'T UNDERESTIMATE MY CAPACITY OF FAILURE!
But this "make a 12 week goal, not 12 months" is actually good advice.

Here is the 8-word summary for those "busy": BABY (frequent) steps will win you the race. Thanks LUCA !!
Desholino you da man as always! And now you have your own mulitlingual video on RUclips, way to go!
Quite wise, Luca. Thanks!
