The campground is pretty far from any gator area, but I understand!! Though really bears are much more dangerous and more likely to drag you out of your tent !
You coming to Morgan City Lake end park ? There's a shower shade parking and this weekend FREE FISHING NO LICENSE REQUIRED. If you need poles I can lend you some. We fish there in the park good catfish.
Been to segnette and fountainbleau parks, I liked Fountainbleau better. I've been to Lake End Park in Morgan City and they have lots of cypress trees with Spanish moss hanging from them. Also the catfish are good there.
How did your solar panels work? 😂😂 But really, it looked nice and not crowded. The Cypress were odd to me the 1st time I saw them in the Everglades. I stayed at St Bernard State Park and visited Chalmette Battlefield, (Battle of New Orleans), part of Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve & New Orleans Jazz National Historic Park.
Yes, there are many great historic sites and museums. Some are a little pricey, but most are pretty good. So you do have to plan your trip, or its not going to be very good. You'll be surprised at the prices and the times and the travel between them.
'they have no investment in the community that lives there'...There's other things besides just touristy stuff like the Lake Pontchartrain area, City Park, and all the historic neighborhoods (besides just the french quarter). But other than that, I gotta say overall that is a pretty frank but fair assessment of new orleans friend. 👍 Fontainebleau state park is probably more popular for camping but it's 50 minutes outside of new orleans. Doesnt get as hot. Not as many gators.
Hi Rick & Akela (Dog of the Tree Limbs) Rick quick question can you tell me approximately how many camping trips you have been on Since you started years ago? Be safe..
Roughly around 150 different camping trips. I've been to over 85 different Campgrounds/dispersed camping sites. But in the early days I went back to the same places many time in the NY Adk.
We stayed at St. Bernard's state park when we were there a few years back. It was very nice. Just got back from my trip to NJ. $900 in gas. Geez!!! Oh well. It was better then staying home and doing yard work. Looks like you two had a good time even if it was hot. That awning/tarp thing you made looks like a winner. Can't wait for your video on it.
Enjoy your video with Akela. I haven't been to New Orleans but was amazed with the camp area you were in, with the alligators, mud snake. But was glad the dragonfly kept the other bugs away. Keep them there LOL..Awesome railroad bridge you video and shared with everyone. Also glad you made it home safely. 🏡
Watch ut for Chiggers. I got eat up yesterday while camping, I even had long paints and socks. Tip: next time I will put some sulfer power on mu paint legs.
We spray our cloths with Permitherins, Keeps the ticks, Mosquitoes and chiggers away. I did have one little patch of chigger "Bites" on my thigh. Damn they itch. I soak it in Alcohol and then vit E. seems to work pretty good.
Those Cypress “knees” and Cray fish towers are something I have never seen. Looking forward to the awning video. Guess you have to be careful tossing the ball for Akela when those gators are so near. Love the cabins but not so sure about some of the visiting native wild life. Great video.
Hopefully now the sound is better...lol. Ya, I try to keep it away from the water. I'm afraid if a gator tried to get the ball Akela would be very upset!! And The cabins are "designed" to be Gator proof, though not sure how that works!
Kind of interesting your modification for the AC water drain. On our 2020 Aliner the AC is on the opposite side of the entrance door. I can count on one hand the number of times we’ve had to use the AC. This is mainly due to taking holidays in May, June or September as the campgrounds in Ontario (Canada) are extremely busy during the summer.
I can't wait to see this awning so I can possibly replicate it. RIP 1200 bugs. Ewww... so glad my A-frame has a wetbath. Weren't you worried about the alligators? They're pretty fast on land as well as in the water.
Yes they can run, I once saw one jump into a golf cart after a guy. But we kept a large border between us and the water !! And Akela is really fast getting away from snakes, turtles, and other scary animals. Pretty sure he could avoid a gator if he could see it. Now if it ate his ball... then the fight would be on!!!
My wife and I met POTUS Jimmy Carter at the Cafe Du Monde in 1980.. He was wearing Jogging shorts, a tee shirt and a red bandana, while his security squad was sweating buckets in their suits!!
@@GoingNoWhereFast Indeed! Very early Sunday morning.. nobody else in there.. just these big sweaty guys in the corners, and this funny little guy in shorts. We quickly figured out who he was and said hello, and he came over and asked where we were from.. "Arizona!" we said.. He thought for a minute and said "Oh yes.. that big canal from the Colorado.." He got a bagful of Beignets, and off he went.. It was kinda cool!!
Westwego is a city in the Parish of Jefferson. For the true beauty of Louisiana you had to keep going south. I am from about 1.5 hours south west of new orleans and that is where the true beauty is. And its Crawfish lol that far south.
When we were near NO, we stayed at St. Bernard SP about 15 miles away. More trees, nicer setting. If you like history, Challmette National Cemetery and Battle of New Orleans site nearby. Check out our video at Geezers on the Go.
The First time I was there I did much more site seeing and exploring. This time with the boy and being so hot, and having to attend the conference, we did not get much of a chance to site see.
That's a decent campground if you need to be close to the city. That's a shame to let it go to pot. They could subcontract a pressure washer company to clean it up. Maybe because of tropical storms and hurricanes, it's less popular with hosts. Liked seeing all the wildlife there. Silly Akela, he's great. Good your awning is working out. 🙂👍
It's in a city called Westwego where there isn't much except the Zurich Classic golf tournament. Most people around new orleans never go to that area so they dont even know this state park exists. Great fishing and boating there tho.
GNWF wildlife edition! Don't think I could tent camp there, you know, with gators roaming around. Thanks for sharing................
The campground is pretty far from any gator area, but I understand!! Though really bears are much more dangerous and more likely to drag you out of your tent !
I like putting a bobber on my pole and soon as the gator gets ready to snap at it I yank the bobber each time so they miss it.😂
Ya, That would require a fast reflex, as they can be very fast!
You coming to Morgan City Lake end park ? There's a shower shade parking and this weekend FREE FISHING NO LICENSE REQUIRED. If you need poles I can lend you some. We fish there in the park good catfish.
Only way I ever fished for catfish was with an overnight line with 5-10 hooks on it. Often catch 3-4 cats in a single night. Ready for breakfast !!
Great video thanks. I liked the summary at the end, good insight.
Thanks, Appreciate the comments on the ending!
Interesting shots of animal life. Thanks for including us.
Thanks for coming along!
Welcome to Louisiana. Come on over to Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville. A lot more shade.
Definitely going to be looking for more places in LA. It has real potential in winter !
Been to segnette and fountainbleau parks, I liked Fountainbleau better. I've been to Lake End Park in Morgan City and they have lots of cypress trees with Spanish moss hanging from them. Also the catfish are good there.
‘ a few of the locals were up waiting fore something to die”!” Hilarious!
They must get awfully impatient just waiting. There seem to be so many of them, they must kill things when no ones looking!
That’s a nice tarp u put up looks great !
Thanks 👍 You really need to make up your mind though!!
How did your solar panels work? 😂😂

I like all the gators!! Thanks for the comments. It really helps people understand the video. Have a great Day!

Roughly around 150 different camping trips. I've been to over 85 different Campgrounds/dispersed camping sites. But in the early days I went back to the same places many time in the NY Adk.
I was in Kenner La yesterday. $4.39 gas it was$4.15 that morning.
They change prices more than some people change clothes!! It was $4.39 this morning, Now its $4.69.
Gawd how I hate camping in the heat..........not to mention HIGH humidity !!
A/C helps quite a bit! But definitely following 70deg F temps is a good reason to go camping !

That is still in development on the tarp. You folks will get the benefit of all my screwups with the right way to do it on the video! lol
The train is called the City of New Orleans and it'll be gone 500 miles when the day is done. (I am so sorry). I enjoy your videos.
I love that song. Best song by Arlo Guthrie

Glad you enjoyed it, Frances. We had fun, but I guess we can have fun ANYWHERE! Especially with Akela, he always seems to be smiling!!!

Yes. If you noticed I removed my A/C unit and carry it in the car if I think I may need it. I try to stay in cool places 😎😍. With waterfalls!!

Ya, they have too much hardware under those suits to remove much of them. But that must have been very cool!!

Yuk the bath room s!
Ah yes!! They were a bit gross!

Are those alligators or crockadiles?
Only Alligators in the US, Crocks are everywhere else in the world! They have a different jaw and tooth pattern
There are crocodiles in S Florida and The Keys.

Wait for the Awning Video, Just used it over Memorial day and man it was super! Easy to set up too.
