As I understand it, the key to the Vulfpeck sound is to get the bass player to loosen up his neck, the lead guitar to loosen up his wrist, the drummer needs to loosen up his vocal cords, the keys guy needs to be exhausted after a long weekend of birdwatching, and the frontman needs to be channeling the spirit of his grandfather.
I don't know why Cory said there is no overdubbing in Vulf tunes. There for sure is. Many songs actually list credits for the overdubs in their youtube descriptions. I don't think anyone can really answer how much of what we hear comes from the video recording is Jack Stratton.
I totally agree, I believe he was specifically talking about the Schvitz album in the conversation I was referencing. I definitely got a lot of stuff I could update for this video.
Great video and great analysis! You should check out the Vulf Compressor if you haven’t already. Based on Jack Straton’s old Boss SP-303 Sampler. Vulfpeck (plus tons of other producers) uses it a lot
I know the Vulf compressor is claiming to emulate the boss sampler's compressor, but it sounds like the same idea as a talkback mic limiter. There are a couple free vst ssl talkback comps. Def worth looking into.
There is actually a lot of trickery going on with Vulfpeck. Definitely drum triggers. Check out the track called Cory Wong for example. Snare layered on top
@@cameronbeatty I feel like I've tried a similar mic for voice, like you did at a 90. i did have decent luck using that mic with a talkbox setup... I don't care for the cardiod sound, at least the one I have (nasally, muffled)
8:08 "it's honestly something that's kind of picky" 😂pun intended? Btw, fascinating that the guitar is just direct-in with not even an amp sim. Would've never guessed. Great work
It really is something picky😂 and yeah it’s interesting to me too it’s just direct input for guitar, I know on Cory Wongs solo stuff he’ll use his own amp sim but from what Cory Wong told me Vulfpeck is straight DI
what audio interface do you recommend for a one man band setup like this? i have all the gear needed except a drum-kit, audio interface and mixing experience
The one I use and recommended is the Tascam US16x08, it gives you 8 xlr inputs and 2 direct 1/4 inch inputs, and it’s the cheaper one I could find that still is quality
not really dude, the drums need to sound like daft punk, you did not nail the sound, it is not about performance technicality, it is about sound engineering. you have like 7/10

That’s definitely one good way to put it, or in other word “keep it simple stupid”
"...exhausted after a long weekend of birdwatching..." That's all I KNOW...!?!
Nice work. You're multi talented. Vulfpeck are incredible. You're on the right track, being so young and all.

Best video I have seen on this - Very Good!! Simplicity is def a trait of this sound = more output
Love your music as well!!
Thank you very much, I’m glad you got something from this
Nice
Well it did not really sound like Vulf, but I liked it…you got your own thang goin’ on bro….

I definitely want to get that plug in I’ve been eyeing it for a while, just a matter of spending the money

@@cameronbeatty Owning all the Goodhertz plugins now, I'd have to say Tupe is the best one to get if I had to choose one.
@@dighawaii1it doesn't sound or work like the LMC at all 😂
nice work!
Cory Wong has some pretty in depth insights into how he gets his tone. As does Stratton
There is actually a lot of trickery going on with Vulfpeck. Definitely drum triggers. Check out the track called Cory Wong for example. Snare layered on top
Yeah there definitely is, I’m going for their more raw stuff, but I do agree there’s a lot of stuff with synths and drum triggers that I did not cover
I mean drum triggers aren't really trickery. They've been around forever and you still gotta play the damn thing
I like how this kid is doing all this, subbed!!🤖🎧
At first I thought this was gonna be a tutorial for their intro sound XD
Interesting stuff! Now I'm subscribing 🤩
These are some really in-depth insights. I'll look back on this video from time to time! I've chosen the Vulf sound as my standard!
Thank you so for the feedback, I’m really glad you found something useful from this video
@@cameronbeatty I'd like to hear more from you if ever you discover more things about their sound!
hello fellow cameron
Hey, Cameron, you voiceover level is like 6-10dB lower than that of the level in the string ov videos I watched leading up to this one.
Are you using an instrument mic for your voice? xP
A Dynamic Mic, yes haha

This is very inspiring. Great video man!
This s great!

I didn’t know “Explaining Computers” has a son.
Mom, can we have Vulfpeck?
We have Vulfpeck at home
Vulfpeck at home:
Did Cory Wong name the song “Cameron” after you?
I'm pretty sure the steps to get a Vulfpeck sound are 1. Keep it funky and 2. Keep it low volume.

you even sound like jack
Now that’s a compliment
:)
Distracted by the fact you should have a moustache
