    I get the whole 'survival in a tin' thing - something that fits in your pocket. Since I have a pocket - several in fact - I'd stuff them with survival items that would exceed the space of the tin. Maybe even get an emergency bivy in there for a shelter. Like your ulu - love the 'oven bag'!👍

    You should try the SAS mess tin like Alan Kay used several years back. I have a emergency blanket and a mini water filter among other goodies like a mini lighter, gorilla tape, fishing line, a couple hooks, a mini flashlight with two spare batteries, cash money, a small folding knife, etc… It’s bigger than the altoids tins but easy to carry in a cargo pocket or my Duluth vest. I have made the vest my civilian LBE 😉 And I wear it 365 days a year, it’s a little large and I wear it over my fleece or winter jacket when it’s too cold for just the vest and shirt.

    I keep 3 tins in my edc bag. One is full of fatwood. One is full of man-made fire starters of two kinds. Cotton ball and PJ, stuffed inside a plastic straw sealed on both ends and cotton rounds permeated with paraffin wax(and a touch of charcoal lighter fluid). The third contains a quart oven bag, and several water purification tabs. I'm a smoker so I always have a lighter. I always have my knife on me, and I always carry a ferro rod. In my phone case on my hip is a signal mirror, a fresnel lens, a card grinder, and sometimes a mag block.

    27:55 Exactly, I carry a tiny kit with me and its hilarious how many times its just the most convenient way to get the job done. Sure I could go to the nearest stash of tools in my garage or car but its nice just to whip something out of your pocket. I can't count the times family and collogues have been shocked at how prepared I am for the little things. My kits aren't really for survival more for every day things. Pins, clips, hair ties for my daughter (sometimes come in handy for other things), Knipex Cobra, SOG power pint with a couple of hex bits, card of gaffer tape, lighter. This little kit sits in a flat pocket bag and many of the items rotate as they are used.
    Great video and great tips I will be making up a more "survival" style kit myself.

    Just a thought....depending what the ulu is made from, I think the back of it would make a very good striker for a flint and steel Firestarter. Another thing...try using nylon reinforced strapping tape. It's at least 10X stronger than duct tape...only drawback (if you want to call it that) you will need something to cut it with because there's no way you can tear it by hand. Can find it just about anywhere...post office, home depot, office depot, wal mart, etc.

      @ONThree  День назад

      It actually does make a good striker for that and a Ferro rod unless you get the stainless steel one. You want the high carbon one for that use

    What's wrong with the mini-BIC? In my experience, you get more than 500 fires out of a single one, more than sufficient for an emergency situation. Pretending a correct fire lay, it will last me a complete year with two fires a day.
    Drinking water from green leaves' condensation?? One hour, and all you got is only a small sip - one liter may take a week, while you're loosing 2-3 liters per day!!

    Yes absolutely but I like your ideas. Nails, fingernail clippers, tweezers, mini Bic lighter, single sided razor blades, mini ferro rod & scraper, doll needles and thread, and waxed cordage.

    Yes, I could see the flash very clearly. I think it would be an effective signaling method.

    Now, I've never experienced it, but I have heard many times that Gorilla tape will not stand up to moisture, I have a big roll of T-Rex tape and I wonder how good it is.

    Polish the inside of the tin for signaling.

    Ok, two questions. 1.What kind of steel in the ulu made from ? 2 Will it work with a ferro rod ?

    • @ONThree
      @ONThree  2 дня назад +2

      The steel is from 80CRV high carbon and yes it will strike a ferro rod

    When I was a kid I made a survival kit with a tic tac container filled with strike anywhere matches, fish hooks, and sinkers. I wrapped fishing line around the outside and secured that with a few layers of duct tape. It was horrible. I found it a year or two ago and the fishing line is green and brittle and the case is cracked but my wife and daughter fight over it

    I have more than that in my kit of those types of kitsI do not waste my time with those sorts of items . My kits are put together oneselection carefully observed . Dollar stores have to stop selling those items a person is supposed to trust, they in effect can put in in a real bad place .your kit is not to baad but nothing i would take part in .I use those tins for Flint and steel .sewing kits like quality needles and i use dental floss for stitching I know what you are saying . We all do things different . I agree with button compasses if they are decent quality . Different video for me . I never watch these tin videos , this was interestingPeople have to stop making those altoids kits they are not good .nostalgia .
