I wonder why so many competitors have finally come forward? We've waited over a decade for someone to challenge EA to the life simulation market. Competition is good. I hope they all succeed.

Probably a combination of technology becoming better and more accessible and people being stuck at home looking to pick up a new hobby or side gig due to the global panini. I'm pretty excited to see what the leads to over the next two to five years.

I think is a combo of the kids that played ts in the beggining and dreamed about working on ts team getting old and experienced enough to create their own games AND seeing how bad EA is treating the game. (personal experience)
And the fact that PL showed everyone that there is room for competition and more importantly there is a market for multiple live sim games

I think part of it is the character design, the way we edit Sims is patented by EA and I think it’s taken some time for other developers to design technology that’s different enough than the EA tech.
This is just my suspicion though, based off literally nothing but my thoughts lol

The game market has always seen Sims as a game for women and girls who play with digital dolls. And yes, there are many male sims players but the ‘cozy’ games market and also the market for women and girls wasn’t seen as profitable for the most part. Will Wright even had a hard time selling anyone on the first sims game idea. Including his own team at Maxis. Imagine trying to pitch to companies that sell adventure games a game with no direct goal perse except for living life, paying bills, and rasing families. Many people don’t see how Sims is fun when you explain the concept to them, then they play and get caught up and get it.

This game seems to have a very limited scope (at least by the time of early access, maybe they plan to expand it to a full lifesim later.) No townies and no freewill means they can skip the whole "AI" coding which is a huge part of the time and expenses in making a game. The 8 household (or was is 8 player?) limit should also help keep performance good without extra optimization. So having early access in 2024 is not inconceivable. Having cinematic trailers based on in-game footage in 2023 however? Color me a bit skeptical of that. The build mode sequence is probably real though.

Exactly. This looks like a small game and with the code make, which are available fast coding is possible.
Additional there are more sims competitors showing up looks like there is no hughe difficulty in creating a simulation.

I'm kind of happy that there's a bunch of upcoming new life sim games coming out cuz honestly even though I really like the sims 4... I'm really not happy as a costumer about how much of the game is paywalled off. I hate that it's even a thing within the gaming community, it feels scummy and doesn't particularly make the game enjoyable when half the features you see on RUclips you don't even get to experience cuz it's not base game and it doesn't make you feel particularly good when you wanna just play a game to escape reality but can't afford all these expansions and stuff/game packs that can change the entire game (like seasons).

(you can build/have more houses but can only log in/play with 1 of your buildings at a time...) Or you can make your own town (with a name or code) so that friends can find you and you can play together in the same world.....

How would a multiplayer game fit the "Create your family to raise generations, party, socialize, develop your skills, and much more."?
Would it be a half online half offline game? Some characters are made by other players and some are made by you and in your game only?

I mean the EA reaction has never been to work harder, when SimCity 2013 failed they closed maxis Emeryville and stopped making city builder games. You could even argue they stripped the city builder influence from Sims since both Sims 3 and Sims 2 had various options for building your own world from scratch and not just simply locked lots on preset maps.

  • @MangoPanic
    @MangoPanic 11 месяцев назад +4

It seems very...generic and barebones. Honestly, if they're focusing on multiplayer, I could see it taking less time because they'd probably cut a lot of fancy features that would be a bit too complicated for a multiplayer game. Less automation, NPCs, etc if it's mostly player controlled.
That said, they're definitely not a no-name studio. SuchArt was a pretty decent success, and that _is_ technically a simulation game. What I played of it was pretty fun too.
I think that this will probably end up being a bit of a niche online game rather than a Sims competitor tho 'cause I feel like it's going for a slightly different market with the multiplayer aspect.

I think you are absolutely right to be skeptical. I don’t believe these trailers are actual gameplay. I’ve heard people talk about Paralives as if it’s right around the corner for years and we still don’t even have a release date? I don’t think this game or any other like it will ever actually release, and if by some miracle they do, what are the chances they have the same level of detail that the sims 2 or the sims 3 have? I don’t know anything about game development, but I feel like unless a big name company decides to make a life sim game, we will just have to watch as EA runs what was once an incredible franchise into the ground. I seriously doubt we will have a game comparable to the sims 2 or 3 in the next 5 years, maybe even longer.

@@Sim-dil-e-icious I only bring up those 2 because they are the best sims games/life simulation games in my opinion. I know the sims 1 was popular, but I never played it so I can’t speak on it.
As for the sims 3, I never had any issues with lagging or crashing. I absolutely loved that game and the open world aspect. For anyone who has played the sims 2 or 3 for several years, it’s clear that the sims 4 just doesn’t have the same level of detail as the previous games. Of course there are aspects of it that are improvements, but overall I find the gameplay to be bland and boring in comparison to the older games.

They may well wait longer than 2024 (that’s what Life By You did). I also wonder if it will turn out a bit like Second Life with better graphics. Life By You is probably not going to be as much of a builder’s game I’m guessing. I’d love if there was at least one solid Sims competitor for building! I’d be thrilled if I never felt the need to give EA another penny!

Regarding the Early Access, yes 2 years may be a short period of time, but there's the amount of people involved and how much of the game they want done before the EA, because they might just want to release le it not that many things, as for Paralives, for exemple, they will release it only after its 90is% done.

Sims 4 is not even open world and the Sims 3 was 10 years ago, they went backwards and stripped away features so they could repackage and sell them in ridiculously overpriced little packages. That's the reason why they made so much money but the truth is they milked their community and give the bare minimum, half broken content, half assed updates and a glitchy broken game. The only reason it did so well was because there were NO other competitors, let's see what happens AFTER these new game come out.

@@Sim-dil-e-icious not that it matters all that much but from my perspective, the only reason the sims 4 is 'successful' is because of:
      - newer gens who haven't played the older sims games, therefore have nothing to compare it to.
      - people who just want to play a life simulator but can't find any other game to play.
      - content creators. they buy packs to review them, even if they're bad.
(talking about majorities here, not individuals.)
i tried liking the sims 4, really did. and i absolutely love build mode and create a sim! but everything else is just not that good. barely any gameplay unless you spend like 1000€. like satch says: the game feels like an aesthetic sim, not a life sim... and that doesn't feel like an upgrade from its predecessors.
so here's a quick comparison (or two) to the sims 3:
      - the sims 3 pets (cca. 30€ back in the day) has the same amount of content as the sims 4 cats&dogs (40€), my first pet stuff (10€) and horse ranch (40€), if not more (unicorns, deer, wild mustang herds, etc.)!
      - the sims 3 supernatural (also cca. 30€) has roughly the same amount of content as the sims 4 vampires (20€), realm of magic (20€), warewolves (20€), etc. and even has more occults (fairies). sure, the sims 4 has updated some occults and added a few fun mechanics to them, but is it still justifiable to sell it for that much?
i could play sims 2 and 3 for hours. got hundreds of hours on both series. but for sims 4.... i think i have 8 hours max? then got bored of it. tried paying for a few packs but got bored of them as well. idk, just not the same. the devs lost their passion for the game and it shows (heck, i'd lose it too if i worked for ea execs) ... so, unfortunately, i'm not very optimistic for the sims 5 either.

i'm mostly talking about the community as a whole, not individuals. *most* simmers have a lot of criticism towards sims 4 but stick with it cause of the reasons i've mentioned above. of course, there will be people who genuinely like and prefer the sims 4. nothing wrong with that! and i'm sorry if my comment suggested otherwise.
but again, looking at the *majority* here, people don't like sims 4 as much as its previous installments. and we can't just pretend that's not true... i think it's okay for the community to be critical of ea's products, when they're created to milk every cent of of the player. and the sims community is one of the most 'loyal' one i've seen tbh. (though i still don't understand why certain individuals 'hate buy' content.)
also, i never said the sims will just die out when competition arrives. i was implying the ea team will have to work harder to make a better game. if you're the only one on the market, you don't have to improve as much, cause people don't have other options.
if people get options with better gameplay, ea might lose a chunk of its players. and yes, that matters to the company who wants to continue making loads of money on the sims. competition is good cause it counters monopolies... a company like ea *wants* most of the life sim players to stay with them and to pick their game over the rest.
please, try not to read my comments with ill intent. i do my best to write in a non-aggressive tone... but again, i'm slavic. i have no idea if something sounds sarcastic or condescending in english. if it does, again, i apologise. but i have to say that your reply does come off as you putting words in my mouth. i don't want to argue. i just want to have a nice debate, if you're comfortable with that. 🫂

When you said that it was supposed to be released after only two years in production, I had several thoughts:
    1. The trailers are NOT showing actual gameplay; they’re more like movies using the game’s art style. Of course, most Sims 4 trailers are like that too, so I guess we can’t hold it against them.
    2. Whatever engine they’re using, they’ve used before, and they’re taking assets from other games they’ve done and tweaking them for life sim use. I don’t believe they could build a life sim from the ground up in only two years.
    3. Beyond the basic stuff like taking care of one’s needs, they’re expecting to not have to worry about more complex gameplay because that will be taken care of with the players’ interactions. In other words, it seems more like a social game with some building rather than a true life sim.
Regardless, I still hope they get it to production and that it finds an audience: more competition can only help us players. 😁

Personally I don’t think this will work out. Life sims are mostly based on our imagination, with other people obviously having imaginations as well it won’t always be the same. That’s not a bad thing but it could be with people ruining what you have built or making you feel bad about what you’ve made. I’d love to see more updates on it, this could be great in so many ways. I just hope those issues aren’t actually issues in the game, that’s just my thought process.

There is a popular roblox life simulator game that is multiplayer so I think we should wait and see.

Apparently the life sims pool is so small, 3 games is a lot of games. 😂😂
Vivland has been around for awhile trying to get attention.

But by all means, I just feel like that a lot of these new "life simulation" games don't feel alive.
Paralives have some character to it visually, and that's interesting. But other than that, a lot of it looks like UE4 stuff.

I remember people pointing out on Twitter back in the day that Vivaland official account used to like tweets that bashed The Sims and Paralives. Regardless of their competence in terms of game development, I find it very off-putting when developers throw shade at their peers. Reeks of insecurity tbh :/

I'm thinking this is "real" based on the fact that the company producing it has other games out. However, the idea of this kind of game being multiplayer creeps me out. I can see so many inappropriate things going on and trolling etc. Also, I can't get my head around how a "town" of 8 people would be that interesting. I think I'll just watch and see what happens and spend my money on LBY and Paralives. Thanks for showing this. I'm always interested in seeing new life sim games in development.

For it to be ready in two years means one of two things, if its real, one is that it has actually been longer than two years and thats just when they started funding it or stolen/copied programming. Those are the only things I can think of based on even EA with teams of programmers take longer than two years and it isn't even good product.

I'm quite easy to please, so even if I know and agree with how much EA is essentially extorting their audience, I like TS4 and probably won't switch solely because of how "braindead" it is. I don't have to think too much, which is why I like to play it. I do think it's good that all these competitors are coming out not only because it might stress EA a bit, but also so that people can get more variety and things to do. I probably won't play it if it does end up to be multiplayer as I'm not a fan of that, but I'm intrigued to see how it evolves

Viva Land I fear is destined to fall flat on its face. In my line of work I have seen this way too often, over optimistic for time to market, grandiose promises, and just plain unrealistic in their expectations. Paralives and Life by You especially, while not as blatant, I sometimes feel that they might be a bit unrealistic as well. But to their credit, Paralives has not made any progress, and Life By You is headed up by somebody who has been their atleast twice. Despite the claims of Viva Land developers, I don't see any of that. But then again, I could be wrong.

Paralives has made a ton of progress, but the problem is it litterally started as one guy’s passion project and now he has a team but under normal circumstances where he was funded by a studio we wouldn’t have seen this much about the game this early. It will be a slow crawl to release for sure.

I think if its not a cashgrab an online sims game could be fun. If youve ever roleplayed in an MMO, or played ttrpgs then im sure you can imagine alot of the sims features would be pretty useful. It would especially be useful if people could have private servers, and have the create your own world tool. Because then people could make themed roleplay expeirences, like fantasy, scifi, apocalypse, superhero, ect.
It would basically be like playing house with other people. A completely different expeirence, but still fun. If this isnt a scam, im excited, because i do find the idea of multiplayer sims intruiging just not in the hands of EA.

I don't do multiplayer at all, I hate knowing there's other actual people around watching how you play... So if that's going to be the main selling point for this game, I'll definitely pass. Not having an option here to play it properly without going online or doing multiplayer is very limiting for any game but definitely for a life simulator

It's bad enough that after spending more than 1000 on Sims4 DLC that we'll have to start over whenever Sims5 comes out, but how many life sims do we really think will be supported the way Sims is?

Paralives is so cozy to me. Originally when I saw it, I was very new to TS4 (Oct 21) and couldn't imagine adding another game to my repertoire. I was at that time a long time loyal Simmer. But in the last 2 years, EA has estranged me with their business practices. I like TS4. It doesn't hold up to TS2, of course, but I am looking for a great opportunity.
Life By You's number one selling point for me was Rod Humble's participation in the project. He absolutely was part of why TS2 was so fantastic.
Keeping an eye on the various games. LBY is a guarantee for me. Paralives is a solid 90% probability.

Sure, you have absolute scams where they never actually make a game, and then you have stuff like Star Citizen where they never release a complete game and keep selling people an unfinished game. Sure, EA did that for years with TS4, but at least they stopped.
Not that I don't expect the unfair business practices to end, like with all the microtransactions people expect from Project Rene and inevitably endless DLC... but hopefully not core game mechanics like TS4, since they said they'd stop doing that, but you never know. Plumbob forbid that EA makes Seasons, Get to Work/Together, etc. permanently free so that TS4 measures up to Project Rene.

Cool to see another life sim, I would love to see a variety of them. With that said this is not one I am interested in if there is no NPC's. I personally prefer single player life sims with lots of NPC's to interact with.

i think its legit i know one of the art developers for thier game void train and they are painstakingly detail oriented. I think they might be doing a develop and update as you play type of model to get the game out sooner.
