Here Al Jazeera is trying to twist the history to suit it's narrative.
Fidel didn't admit that he was a Marxist before the revolution, simply because that would affect the revolution adversely.
This video is a direct attempt to distort the history and show Fidel Castro as a power hugry politician.

If Castro wasn't a devout Marxist, why did he continue his Marxist vision of Cuba even after the collapse of international Communism?
He had no reason to continue his Marxist-Leninist view, and by the logic that he was an opportunist, he would have switched over to some form of neoliberal state after the Communist collapse.

Sun Tzu I don’t think that’s necessarily the case. I think the July movement was more just a pan-leftist movement at the beginning, and then it gradually developed into a specifically Marxist-Leninist one. It’s not difficult to see why really. Cuba was really up against it trying to survive so close the USA, the only hope for countries trying to shake off imperialism was to ally with the USSR and adopt their system. There was other factors no doubt but I think it’s mainly because the US forced Cuba down the path.

Che was the most optimistic, selfless dreamer who dreamt to change the world, to make it a better place to live for all. And definitely not a day dreamer. Bcos he dreamt to liberate Cuba and he achieved it. It gave him the confidence to do the same for Bolivia. He dreamt to liberate the whole Latin America. Had he succeeded in Bolivia, he would have done the same for another Latin American country. Had he not died in Bolivia, he would have continued his dream of liberation until his last breath.

This is nothing short of historical revisionism. Fidel was *always* a socialist - he couldn't have secured the revolution if the US was aware of his promises of land reform and nationalisation, so he, for good reason, kept it hidden from the US until Cuba was somewhat stable. Cuba's relationship with the USSR wasn't made from a view power grabbing but from one of necessity and companionship: the USSR promised to aid in warding off the US, and on top of this shared a mutual socialist interest. Above all, the mere notion that Castro was only a revolutionary for power is insidious at best: how one gains power by advocating for the rights of the powerless is a mystery to me.
Also, Che wasn't "sent" abroad, he left on his own accord after resigning to help other anti-imperialist revolutions across Africa and Latin America. While Fidel didn't approve of the decision, he none the less wished him the best of luck on his journey. The two were comrades in arms through and through, and even common sense can show anything that claims otherwise to be false.

Corrections. 1- US financed and armed Batistas regime against Cuban Revolution.
    2. Che wanted to leave and Castro didn't want him to, Che had made this clear since their time in Mexico where they met and before the revolution happened.
    3. Castro and the group waged guerilla war to overthrow Batista based on Republican ideals of sovereignty inspired by Jose Marti and the desire for ending the Cuba as a stop for rich Americans keeping Cuba as a colony for their enjoyment at the expense of most Cubans
    4. Socialism and Marxism are different in different places- from Kerala to Cuba, USSR, Bernie Sanders, Venezuela, to the welfare state all the boomers enjoyed post 45 in most of Western Europe.
    5. Changing political positions with time is pretty normal.
    6. The omission of the trade war the Americans put Cuba under has cost Cubans billions of dollars, they isolated and blockaded Cuba.
    7. CUBA HELPED TO END APARTHEID IN SOUTH AFRICA and defeated the South African racist armies from invaded Namibia and Angola.
No nation or person is perfect but thr contribution if Che, Castro and the Cuban Revolution is an incredible achievement no one can deny. And its result still exist around the world. Long live Cuba, Castro and Che. Hasta la Victoria siempre!

2:14 not true. If you read what experts have found, it becomes clear that Che left Cuba on his own accord, by his own will. He left because he knew his place wasn't in Cuba any longer. While he liked Castro as a dear friend, he was beginning to feel irritated by what the Cuban Revolution was becoming for Castro. So he left to support the revolution in the Congo, although to little avail.

This is not true. Castro played America for their money, yeah, and then you have the real face of Castro.. the one who was in the same revolution in the same war witch Che, doing same things... IT WAS CHEs idea to go back to Argentina (where is he originally from), and then to go to Bolivia, where he died, but he DIED FOR WHAT HE WANTED>>> AND THATS THE WHOLE POINT! patria o muerte . (fatherland or death) quotation of his last words from 1964 UN speech

    • @abadedo

Nationalizing the land of the big landloards(all friends of US imperialism and the among them US corporations) was enough for the US to start to overthrow the revolutionary Cuban government by any means necessary.
Most of that land was just distributed among the poor peasants at first (like in the early Soviet Union). It was still private property.
But without this land reform extreme poverty in Cuba would not have been possible to overcome. Land reform was the will of the vast majority of the population in Cuba at the time and in all semi feudal, underdeveloped countries, with a large peasantry, around the world.
This was just a logical move for any Latin American leader who wasn't corrupt. Who wasn't in the pockets of the United States or the mafia or the huge land owning corporations. This alone was not Marxism or Communism. This was just a shot of Socialism in the mix of what the new Cuba should become.
As history since 1917 has shown, this is more than enough for US imperialism to lie about and try to topple any government.
Che Guevara and Raul Castro knew this all along, and I am pretty sure Fidel did too. He knew the United States and how they engaged with other Latin American countries in the years before.
Fidel, like Raul and Che, also knew that prosperity or any kind of freedom and human rights for the Cuban people would not be possible if US influence on thd country were not to be ended or sharply restricted. To know this he only had tk look at all if Latin America and not be extremely stupid. Fidel was a genius and he sympathized with Marxism long before he took power.
There is an anecdotal story that he read Stalin's "Foundations of Leninism" in prison(imprisoned by the Batista regime) and that a member of the outlawed Cuban communist party, who was also a prison inmate, criticized him for that and asked him if he didn't know about Crushchev's "secret speech" on the 20th party congress of the CPUSSR(B), criticizing Stalin's alleged crimes and cult of personality. And he answered that he thought this was all imperialist propaganda and he proudly called himself a "Stalinist" (which could have been a joke, but I don't think si, because "Stalinism" was the slur used by anyone who agreed with "Destalinisation" and western enemies of Communism who saw the opportunity that Crushchev had given them. The same people BTW that call everything up until the traitor Gorbachev "Stalinism" until today. They even continue to do so when talking about Cuba for example).

Fidel didnt send no one away. Che wanted to and fidel castro wanted him to stay. If was like that his kids and wife would not have stayed in cuba and che's letters would be different. Months before he went to congo and came back, and then went to bolivia. If people would spend a little more time actually going thru real information they would not beleive in pieces of lies like this. Che's son once said that was his father wishes to go to bolivia....
