Its so unusual to hear such a clean and honest performance. No Autotune, no overuse of the jazz/blues vocal style or belts and no post production. You can hear the breaths and even the creaking of the wooden floor as she moves. This is almost a lost art today. Thank you for including Aurora in your reaction catalog. P.S. The amazing Silja Sol, guitarist and vocalist in this and many other performances, has left the band to expand her solo career again. She will be missed.

Aurora is a fighter against injustice,and some of her songs are dealing with psychic health themes. And of course she is a fighter for taking care of nature and environment. In my opinion it is important to know this when listening to her overall repertoire. But in the background of many sad songs you can feel the love for mankind. If you havent reacted to The River already, you should know that this song was witten about young mens suicides, telling people to let out their feelings like a river.
You should definitely check out her concert "Live at Nidarosdomen"... this is THE most beautiful concert she has given so far... 58 minutes of pure magic and beauty.... the venue, the setting, the instrumentation, the sound, the vocals, the arrangements... everything is simply magical. You could probably react to the whole concert, or pick up any of the 12 songs Aurora is performing there. Please check it out, I'll promise you, it will leave you speechless ! Good songwriting. Two harmonizing vocals. A guitar. Not that far off Simon&Garfunkle way of doing things. Knowing well she can scale up production when appropriate. As interesting are her lyrical abilities. There is so much darkness (potentially) hiding inside all these beautiful harmonies. Aurora never was on some talent show to be judged about her vocal abilities. She is an artist that chose music instead of writing or painting or... As such she is more like a David Bowie/Paul Simon/Leonard Choen/Bob Dyland - all very fine and very distinct vocalists that never top the "prettiest voices ever" but instead top "best artists/poets/songwriters ever. Aurora has an amazing voice - but that is just a tool/instrument. In accordance with her own description of herself: She is primarily making art (where she is happy - at home and in the studio). She never cared much for the "performing role" - at least in the start. As such she is the antithesis of the "singer". I know there is a lot of cross-information between Aurora and Angelina Jordan in the youtube reaction world (two Norwegian girls with great voices). But they are very different. Angelina is a natural performing singer. She is the one destined to embrace and wow the audience. Aurora is the introvert storyteller. I would never rank these two. But since AJ is now 15 and we have a few of the songs she has written herself as a teen to compare with Aurora's early songwriting, AJ writes big for her instrument. Aurora does not. The world needs the Whitney Huston that sings her heart out with all 10 spotlights pointing at her. The world also needs the Edit Piaf that ripped her heart out and held it in her hand for the audience while she performed on much smaller stages. What I mean is that top-level art always carries through the inherent personality of the artist. Some are extrovert, others are - maybe more "intimate"? For reference - take the time to check out Aurora doing some of her finest performances at the Nobel Peace Prize concert - ripping her heart out WHILE looking absolutely terrified. And compare it to Angelina Jordan aged "child" stepping out on a stage in front of thousands of people being cool as a cucumber and ready to go BIG (vocally). They are two sides of the coin called art. And both are needed. Aurora often use her voice to "contra-point" the arrangement - that tiny clear voice (aka "innocence") on top of heavy subjects. Angelina Jordan belched out "Spell on you" to the point that grown men are convinced (and unsettled) when she was 9 years old. Since you seem to be focused on "big vocals" - I would suggest that you let your parents listen to "Through the eyes of a child" - the "Live at Vevo" recording. Aurora is not going "bigger" on her vocals, but the entire band lends in their vocals to make some pretty enjoyable and huge harmonics hanging out in some pretty old-school D-minor modalities. I think/hope you would all like that. Finally a top tip. You and your parents look like you are starting at a laptop during your reaction - which is fine. You better have that laptop hooked up to some good speakers (and no I do not mean some Sonos Bluetooth speaker) though. I write this at an insanely expensive Macbook pro and I can not even listen to the weather forecast on the built-in speakers (and I am not some hifi stupid luxury guy who needs a Rolex to tell me time). As Ausgamer said below - this recording has enough fidelity, even with youtube compression, to pick up breathing and feet moving. If you listen to this on any laptop speaker, Aurora will sound like a mono-recording of a child carved into plastic in 1970. It is physics. Eyes can watch on tiny screens, but ears can not enjoy tiny speakers unless one put them inside the ears. Speakers need mass when they are not inside ears because they make sound by pushing on this heavy thing called "air". Heck. get a Sonos Bluetooth speaker. Anything but "straight out of laptop" sound. She's a storyteller and she performs each song so as to best convey the story. For some livelier Aurora, check out her performances on KEXP - she is very animated! Also, I understand that this is a reaction channel and you will be stopping to give commentary on the song, but please go back a few seconds after pausing so as not to lose the flow of the song. Aurora doesn't ever need auto tune. She posts videos of her just singing in her room on the piano. Try "Through the eyes of a child" live at Nidarostomen.

2020 should be a year with fewer gigs, and more studio... But covid came and ruined all plans.... So she now soon have 1,5 years without a job... But thanks to Runaway I think she has done good. Norway is a very small country, and in a world view Aurora is not big..... To release a new album she needs to travel, promote, and tour too make it. Thanks to covid all plans are delayed! BUT she has said it will be a album this year!
My interpretation: This song is FOR ME kind of a rape and revenge story. The boyfriend goes too far and rapes his girlfriend ("love is wild"). After that he kills her for fear of the consequences. Her soul dies during the rape. Inwardly she falls apart into "a thousand pieces" (the "crying land" is her soul), even though she was as strong as a "stone" before and is "broken into sand". She is in shock. She can only scream inside ("silent call"). When he murders her, she bleeds out to death and she look "like a flower on the medow" in his bed. Then he buries her bloody body outside the window (red ground). After that she came back ("return from the shadows") as his guilty conscience (or as Ghost) and this (her) voice in his head is louder than his own ("don't you speak over my voice"). She bleed in his bed, turn it red again and again. She will always haunt him. It can also just be an quarrel in which the boyfriend pushes his girlfriend out the window. She died. His guilty conscience hounted him and he is the one who is breaking into 1000 pieces inside. For me one of her strongest songs. Only murder song 5,4,3,2,1 is even better and more haunting for me.
