    DUDE thanks again. I'm 30, have been waiting forever for the right time to dive head first in music and now is the time. I'm an absolute beginner studying piano every day. This is my access to education right here, so thank you heartfully. If all goes according to the plan I'll get famous one day and spread the word about your work lol cheers

    Excellent introduction to jazz improvisation based on very easy-to-comprehend building blocks (or ingredients). With over 30 years of jazz piano performance/composition/arranging behind me, I know how daunting it all seems to the beginner. This course looks like a good way for anyone to gain access to this wonderful idiom.

    • @WalkThatBass
      @WalkThatBass  6 лет назад

      That's going to be a monster of a video. The problem is there are so many possible alterations you can make it can get quite overwhelming very quickly. But I'll think on it and see if there's a good way to present it.

    • @Crimsonaut
      @Crimsonaut 6 лет назад +1

      I hear ya. Personally I'd love just to see how to incorporate passing chords, 2-5-1s, and maybe some fills. They way you structured this video was phenomenal (as always). It made perfect sense to me. So all I'm saying is there's a whole lot of very worthwhile exploration you could demonstrate if you felt so inclined 😊. Thank you for your vids. You truly have a gift for knowing how to break down and present concepts in the smartest way

    Around the 12:00 minute mark, while explaining rootless chords, you use a Cm9 as an example. Seems like the rootless form of that is just an EflatM7, no? What's the difference?

    WOW I’m a jazz musician and never knew it. I taught myself to play piano but can give you a tune on pretty much anything. Sometimes I get a little bit to complex while playing with other people but they’re usually “cover band” musicians and I’m more...🤔 jam.? That’s why I love Jazz...a recent occurrence...It’s ordered chaos. Great Lesson...Thanks!

    A really great video, extremely helpful, thank you. In Autumn Leaves, I was interested in the way you voiced the Amin7b5 followed by the D7 - you seemed to use 3-b5-7-b9 for the Amin7b5 and then 7-b9-3-5 - is this correct? I've been wondering how best to voice rootless min7b5 chords in particular, any pointers would be great

    • @WalkThatBass
      @WalkThatBass  6 лет назад +2

      Yep, that's correct.
      What I'm doing is technically incorrect, as a b9 is not an 'available tension' over a m7b5 chord, but I find the nat9 creates too much dissonance when using rootless voicings (because you effectively create a mMaj7 chord - C Eb G B). Then for voice leading purposes play a diminished substitute for the D7 (C Eb F# A).
