    You can afford a $2,000 thing if you have $2,000 available to spend above your normal living and investing budget

    My husband makes $130k and we got our $700 mattress 8 yrs ago. 4 kids later we conclude this mattress is very effective and comfortable 😂

    For mattresses personaly you can get a 3" Mattress topper for much cheaper. Mattresses usually last 10 years so you've basically upgraded your current mattress for 10 years. (I had an old mattress that deflated and with the mattress topper it works like new, even better than new). Expensive mattresses are basically just normal ones with 3" of foam on top.

    You need to run the numbers as well as realizing if you pay a bit more for better quality, it can last longer.

    My answer is usually, can I double/triple the amount of the item and be okay with it? If the answer is no, thats too expensive. Or no, I couldn’t afford it for 2x more. Then the answer is no, I cannot afford it.

    We bought our mattress used for 500, it was expensive for a used mattress but it's the best mattress we've ever bought, literally the most comfortable,soft high quality mattress, when we went on vacation for 6 mos, it was the thing we missed the most!!

    I would just use my Credit, not not Credit Card, I have Retail Credit with every Major, or non Major Store, all under one Roof. I never pay for Major Purchases right out, I utilize Installment Payments, and pay over years. It saves you %100 upfront, aespecially if you aren't required to make a down payment, which I'm thankful that I don't have to.

    I use a wooden hard bed mattress, no spring. Then I just replace the mattress toper every once in a while (like 10 years). It has the same comfort as a 2K mattress, lasts just as long, and is considerably cheaper.

    If my answer is all about feelings then that 2k has to come from guilt free spending. If it's a necessity then I can save for it. Guilt free and savings have a # each alotta to them each month.

    Because if my spouse and I make 100k/year and that bed would last let's say 10 years then that would be a 10th of a percent of my income in that period of time for the ROI if you will that the bed offers.

    • @coreyburke3493
      @coreyburke3493 4 дня назад

      But if you make a $100k a year and outgoing bills are $99k a year you can't afford it lol. The amount of money you make is only half the equation.

    Anybody can afford anything. It's just a matter of how long it takes to get there. If you can only put away $20 a month, then that mattress is yours in 8 1/2 years! If you can do more (and still meet all of your other financial goals) then it's yours sooner. But yes you CAN afford it.

  • @FangerZero

    I can afford a $2k mattress because I have $12k in my savings lol

    • @WarPenguin4
      @WarPenguin4 7 дней назад

      This is exactly the kind of attitude he's trying to get people away from. By that logic you can afford a 12k mattress. The idea isn't about how much cash you have, it's how are you doing relative to your goals and how much money can you spend to still keep up with your goals?
      If you need a new car next year, have no emergency savings, own a house and need maintenance money, have health expenses coming up, etc. Then spending 2 of your 12k in cash could be disastrous.
      For someone else it could be just fine.

    • @coreyburke3493

      He’s not saying everyone is poor, most people just buy shit without actually looking at their finances and just buy shit with the “i work so i deserve it” mentality. I can finance a brand new car today but i KNOW i’d be putting a lot of stress on myself financially. So many people i know get new cars just for the sake of having a new car and i always hear about them barely getting by just because of car payments, like nope im happy with my older car til i am more financially stable.
