Merle could sing about things with authority that few people could. That was his songwriting and performing genius. Rest in peace, Merle. You brought great beauty to the world in the face of such difficulty and pain. ❤
I love love love this strip down version of the original..Its almost like a hymn.If I could request a song to be played at my funeral this would be the one.
Ah, you can clearly see that he was catching the momentum. His career is really amazing, when I am listening to Merle I know that it's always top quality stuff.
Merle and Marty are probably jamming to this song. God bless Bonnie, such a wonderful person. This song is not quite the same without her beautiful backup vocals.
I have listened to this song for years from the Rainbow Stew Live album. Never did I realize he was referring to Willie Nelson when he says "C'mon Will". I never get tired of this song.
Agreed. We used to rewind the cassette (lol) over and over to the “c’mon Will!” Never knew until these videos surfaced who Will was. It was also awesome to see the video of the stands rocking up and down when the voice comes over the speaker and says “Attention! For your own safety, please do not dance on the upper level!” We used to talk about what an awesome concert that would have been to be at.
Not sure what year this is but I was at Giants Stadium in NJ in 83' at Willie's 4th of July picnic and was able to see Merle live for the first time. Needless to say at 17 I was hooked for life with Merle. At 56 I still have to get my daily dose of the Hagg!!
The warden led a prisoner down the hallway to his doom I stood up to say good-bye like all the rest And I heard him tell the warden just before he reached my cell 'Let my guitar playing friend do my request.' (Let him...) Sing me back home with a song I used to hear Make my old memories come alive Take me away and turn back the years Sing Me Back Home before I die I recall last Sunday morning a choir from 'cross the street Came to sing a few old gospel songs And I heard him tell the singers 'There's a song my mama sang. Can I hear once before we move along?' Sing me back home, the song my mama sang Make my old memories come alive Take me away and turn back the years Sing Me Back Home before I die Sing Me Back Home before I die

I know it says Anaheim Stadium...But it looks like the Astrodome to me! ~ Plus, Willie has an Astros shirt on... ?? Incredible, Beautiful, Stunning Show! 💙
It appears to be maybe in Houston? Willie has on an Astro's coat... It's outside so I don't think it's the old Astrodome... Man, I'll rack my brian trying to figure this one out. At any rate GREAT song!
He sounds so good here. He is clear and vibrant. That voice is utterly heavenly
It’s like butterscotch.
How cool was Merle… he looks even more relaxed performing than Dean Martin.
BEST COUNTRY SINGER TO EVER STEP ON A STAGE! RIP MR MERLE! WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU!🙏💜
GOD BLESS FATHER MERLE
Agreed!!

Tender, Beautiful and Haunting.
Music has magical powers to take us away from our troubles.
Sometimes that's all we need, if only for a brief moment.

I know it says Anaheim Stadium...But it looks like the Astrodome to me! ~ Plus, Willie has an Astros shirt on... ?? Incredible, Beautiful, Stunning Show! 💙
Diahn Schoultz - astrodome is indoors
Willie was wearing Astros stuff because he is an Astros fan! Nolan Ryan had just recently joined the Astros .
maybe it's because they enclosed anaheim stadium per the Rams moving in and seat expantion.
I'm a big man but I cried
Live at Anaheim Stadium October 1980.
Toll!!!!!!
Only one other male singer could phrase like The Hag, that singer was Sinatra.
...wow at Willies shaggyness great song thoe
RIP
boy this is an old one, but love them both trying to see when done?
i domt know the history, willie seems like he's full of pride and gifts if I was a coyboy in 1800 I'd make him more humble
Good job......
looking for this concert on DVD or Blu-Ray. My dad had it on VHS and loved it. want to get him this for his B day. Can anyone help?
Nice! Am I the only one who thinks Willie looks like Fidel Castro here?
Mike Hasbrouck Haha - you're right! - Now we are two at least. - Cheers! Is that Bavarian beer you're holding in hand?
It appears to be maybe in Houston? Willie has on an Astro's coat... It's outside so I don't think it's the old Astrodome... Man, I'll rack my brian trying to figure this one out. At any rate GREAT song!
Anaheim Stadium concert October 1980.
@TheScarlet5 Thats the late Bonnie Owens who both Merle Haggard and Buck Owens were both married to at 1 point
fuckin great vid man keep um coming
Where and when?
i domt know the history, willie seems like he's full of pride and gifts if I was a coyboy in 1800 I'd make him more humble, pre willie b4 the IRS?
Now that is frickin' country music. You can keep today's crap.
Who,s the wee Scottish laddie
Merle Haggard and Bonnie Owens belong together. Too bad they divorced.
Why should a comment like Seth Walston even be allowed??? No one forced him to watch this.
as i said previously Merle is the only person who can do justice to any of his material, others think they can but they butcher it
Darren Crispin I disagree, Gram Parsons did a fine version, and The Grateful Dead version is simply amazing
They just don’t make them like this anymore.
County music sucks!
What happened?
And they wonder why Trump won.....probably never heard a Merle song.
what does trump got to do with haggard ?
?
Clintons are fans and friends with Willie Nelson.
Merle's good friend Marty Robbins was a staunch conservative.
38 #1 Hits... and he wrote most of those. Unlike George Strait who wrote Zero of his hits!
