mad respect for not changing the gender pronouns in the lyrics lol its usually so lame when cover artists do that when covering a song by someone of different gender
I personally still prefer "leather seats", but your choice of the lyric "legacy" does add an intriguing twist that got me thinking more about the meaning of the song. Also, respect for your belting in the chorus; loved hearing a male rendition of this song that I've been mildly obsessed with lately.
Thanks for that! I appreciate your respect and kind words. Your opinion about the lyric change is good to know, and I'm glad it got you thinking about it in a different way. Thanks for the comment!
no its not, its out of context! To have an impact on someones legacy is to have major influence on their life. The reason its out of context is because the song is about a girl that isn't ready to move on when the guy she loves has all but moved on and all but forgotten about her! The whole song is about vengeance for being cheated on, Shes damaging his car not his life and the reason her NAME IS IN THE LEATHER SEATS is so the "next girl" knows what hes like
This is the first time I've ever heard anyone sing it as legacy. How is that more powerful? It doesn't even accidentally make any kind of sense! She's obviously talking about destroying his car, which has leather seats!
I know this was a case of mishearing a lyric, but also Carrie was talking about blowing holes in his tires and smashing windows. So leather seats makes more sense than legacy XD
Thanks for saying that! I play a lot of solo acoustic shows around the Boston area right now. Hoping to put a band together and play outside of the area regularly!
(Verse 1) Right now, he's probably slow dancing With a bleached-blond tramp And she's probably getting frisky Right now, he's probably buying Her some fruity little drink 'Cause she can't shoot whiskey Right now, he's probably up behind her With a pool stick Showing her how to shoot a combo (Chorus) And he don't know That I dug my key into the side Of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive Carved my name into his leather seats I took a Louisville slugger to both headlights Slashed a hole in all four tires Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats (Verse 2) Right now, she's probably up singing some White-trash version of Shania karaoke Right now, she's probably saying, "I'm drunk" And he's a-thinking that he's gonna get lucky Right now, he's probably dabbing on Three dollars worth of that bathroom Polo (Chorus) Oh, and he don't know That I dug my key into the side Of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive Carved my name into his leather seats I took a Louisville slugger to both headlights Slashed a hole in all four tires Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats (Bridge) I might've saved a little trouble for the next girl 'Cause the next time that he cheats Oh, you know it won't be on me! No, not on me (Chorus) 'Cause I dug my key into the side Of his pretty little souped-up four-wheel drive Carved my name into his leather seats I took a Louisville slugger to both headlights Slashed a hole in all four tires Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats Oh, maybe next time he'll think Before he cheats Oh, before he cheats
You do realize that this song is part of a trilogy, right? First one is 'Last Name' in which she meets and marries this guy and wins him a truck. Second one is Before He Cheats ... don't you think that she'd have known or suspected it before this song? Third one is Two Black Cadillacs where she talks with the side-chick and they plan his death with the possessed car that was used in the Stephen King movie Christine, where the car self-repairs itself. Yes, they did ask Stephen for permission to use the car.
I love your interpretation using legacy honestly I like leather seats she’s using all these descriptive words building that image and a story we can play out in our heads like a movie and leather seats adds to that but again that’s my interpretation legacy is a much more powerful word thank you for singing it like that so we see both ways:))
@@AlecSullivan did you do any exercises to extend your vocal range? I should be a baritone and I used to practice but I really hope I can hit at least a C you know, knowing that someone succeeded into extend his range gives me the strenght to practice everyday ahahah
@@RiccardoCipolletta It took me a little while to extend my range, but it was mostly about developing my head voice and learning how to use it properly. To do that, I practiced a lot and sang Judas Priest all the time, haha. And CCR. You should keep putting time into it! I’m sure you can get there. Look into developing your head voice and it will open up a lot of possibilities 😃
Classic music video! My thoughts were based only on the song itself. I mean, it's pretty obvious that the guy cheated, but funny to think if it's all an assumption, haha.
If you search “before he cheats Joe” you’ll find an upload of a very old video where an r n b singer does a version from the POV of the cheating guy with some lyric changes.

I thought the lyric was CANNONBALL 🤔
@@PutTheGameDown That's a good point. Pretty sure you're right...
I thought it was in his leather seats
I think you’re in the majority, which is probably a good thing 😄
I prefer legacy too! I also always sing ‘bathroom cologne’ instead of ‘bathroom polo’. I just prefer it 🤷🏻♂️
mad respect for not changing the gender pronouns in the lyrics lol its usually so lame when cover artists do that when covering a song by someone of different gender
I’m glad you approve! I agree. I feel like switching lyrics works sometimes but usually feels gimmicky if it’s just the pronouns.

I know this was a case of mishearing a lyric, but also Carrie was talking about blowing holes in his tires and smashing windows. So leather seats makes more sense than legacy XD
Oh absolutely, when it’s all meant to be literal. “Legacy” brings it to a much deeper level, but clearly Carrie was just in a fit of rage 🛻 🤬💥
Great interpretation!! You could actually feel and hear the heartbreak in your voice. As always, amazing job
Thanks! I’m glad you could feel it 🙏
