Haley strategic MP2 mag inserts work great, just tuck thr nylon flaps inside and push the inserts in. Come in packs of 4, perfect for me. I'm planning on running 4 mags in the middle and extraneous items on the outer 4 pouches.
The factory magazine retainer flaps, I would shorten the back flaps to about 1" long, sear the cut edge with a butane torch, fold the 2" webbing in half, about 1/2" long, then set 1 or 2 #00 black oxided brass grommets through both layers, to anchor bungee retainers. Fronts, just cut the entire strap off then sear the edge or wait, it will eventually fray apart. For my taste, the issue TAP seems to be too wide, like they could eliminate the two end pockets.
I got a KRYDEX H-Harness kit with back strap and replacement Fastex buckles off of Amazon for like $20. Looks exactly like the Spiritus Systems harness kit.
Awesome job! I see everyone replacing their zipper pull with paracord for noise. All the buckle clicks Velcro pulls and gear rattling seems like zipper pull would be the least of someone’s worries. Not being negative just trying to see what I’m missing
Generally speaking everything should be as noise-proofed as possible. Buckles can be clipped and unclipped silently, and I personally keep most of my pouches either with no velcro or install velcro silencers. The obvious exception being magazines, grenades and signaling ordnance. If I have to reach for those, I'm not worried about noise anymore. Thanks for watching.
Buy the shock cord and stoppers from anywhere. The buckle repair kits are cheap to add your own back strap or build your own harness. I like you idea for the padding.
I'm doing something similar right now, but am gonna go a bit further with the harness and sew new, wider-set loops on the front. They're too close together, and an inch or two closer together than industry standard for clipping onto PCs. Setting them a bit wider will keep the straps out of my neck, I hope.
Hadn't ever seen it until reading your comment. Looks like good stuff, but at almost 200 dollars I will take my system that I mostly cannibalized from old worn out gear lol. Thanks for the comment!
I hate the TAP when it's used as a standalone rig. It works well for Infantry, because obviously we can unbuckle them and toss them to each other in a squad and switch weapon systems, but these things are *God-awful* when you have to wear it standalone without IOTV.
@@Wandering_Grunt what does the harness do? I dont find it uncomfortable, it's just that I cant make it fit by body tightly even at minimum settings, I'm 1.70m so idk
@@sbura_ The issued "Y-style" harness is trash because the shoulder straps are thin pieces of nylon that aren't padded, or at least double layered to better disperse the weight. As a result, when you run a full combat load and you're not wearing the TAP with IOTV, the straps dig into your traps and neck muscles. It's uncomfortable, and it was a poor design.
Think those are bad...I started my infantryman career with the old ALICE gear. Those clips literally dug trenches in your sides when road marching. We ended up replacing those with 550 cord. Then, we went to the improved LCE, whatever it was called, and that was a world of difference. In fairness though, this was pre body armor days. Apparently, we were bulletproof...
The best mod for a TAPS panel is to leave it in your closet and find something else. It's inefficient, bulky, if you use the suspenders for standalone use you'll find that they suck, causing chafing around your neck, and they dig in if the panel is loaded heavy, and who needs eight mag pouches? You'll run four and the other four are wasted space. There are better ways to carry extra gear than this.
Funny how the very first thing I say is to get rid of the suspenders and get a new harness or make your own. Also, who needs 8 mag pouches? People who want to carry 8 magazines. Or 6 magazines and 2 TQs. Or 5 mags, 2 TQs and a radio. Use your head my guy.
@@Wandering_Grunt But actually putting 8 mags in a TAPS is a really cumbersome and uncomfortable way to carry 8 mags, right? I'd rather strap a 3 mag panel to each side armor pocket and distribute the 8 mags more evenly.

making taps mods is a ton of fun
I'm eager to see your updates to your 3 tier load out system. Great to see you uploading again.

I personally love how wide it is. perfect for radios, and 750-1000ml bottles and smokes. and if I dont need it I can just leave it empty
I liked this. Good mods and they make sense for a basic infantry load out

How is the sizing for you on the Krydex harness? I have heard it’s huge on medium to smaller people. I’m 145 5’10”.
Hear the 82nd loves some docking

Iron rangers? You sir are clearly classy af. Great work! Looking forward to modding mine when it arrives.
Make more videos, you did great.

For Al Gore’s rhythm.
Good video as always brother stay safe out there
Very good
Good stuff
You were ahead of the game my dude, have you seen the Spiritus TAP mod?

Tall slick faced kiwi or the midlength?
How goes the dangler project
I am planning to do the same mod to my own TAP Chest rig. What size is the buckles?
Cursing is fine.😊

Why?
I have one and it's great
Definetly had similar feelings before taking off the original harness. Putting a different harness on changes the game entirely.

Oh and it's "kiwi" like the fruit.
Source: it just sounds better
Correct... And the bird. A KIWI bird is the ESSTAC Co. symbol.
Source: The ESSTAC website sells tactical KIWI bird stickers.
Thanks for the tip. These chest rig are cheap!!!
For a reason. You won't use one for very long before you realize it kinda sorta sucks.

I spent many years with USAF Security Forces, basic combat load out was 7 Mags plus 3 for the M9. When back home it was 4 & 2.
Cool boots, I’ve got the same redwings.
