What a jagged image we use for women who achieve greatly, defining accomplishment in terms of the barrier rather than the triumph. There she is up where the air is thin, where men still outnumber women, but where the altitude is awesome. Our goal with Firsts is for every woman and girl to find someone whose presence in the highest reaches of success says to her that it is safe to climb, come on up, the view is spectacular.

Dr. Bath is another phenomenal "Hidden figure"!
Gary Booker xD
Swept under the rug. How inspiring it would have been to young black children, to see that we invent stuff as well. Now we hear about it when the time has passed.
thank you because I sure didnt know but making sure my daughter know
I'll be sharing Patricia Bath's story with my first graders tomorrow! A classroom full of young black children :)
@@rae5910 that's great, children are basically taught a "whiteworld" view. Where white people did everything and this leaves grown adults, who don't know know or have any idea if the contributions that Blacks make to this society. This leads to ignorance and racism.... Good job, keep teaching this kind of material.
Thank you Dr. Patricia Bath! RIP 💕
Amazing woman. Always way ahead of her time. I was her personal secretary for 4 years. So glad she is part of Black History now. She definitely deserves to be there. Interesting that it doesn't always matter how brilliant you are or how accomplished, someone will not like that brilliance and will want to suppress any idea that someone got there first before them. So very important to realize the politics of standing out and standing up.
One of the messages given to me in school was: "The tallest trees always get hit by lightning." LOL So try not to shine. Stay in yo place. Don't excel ahead of others. Patricia Bath did just the opposite! Well done.
Nice documentary
Wow I wish I could meet her! So inspiring to see this 🙌🏾
Keep in mind, I never had any doubts............Classic!
Wow, it's great to see black girl nerds!!!!
I'm in tears. What an inspiration to females all over the globe. Her colleague's disbelief was his ego talking. No man back in the day, ever wanted a female to outshine him. Her inventing laserphaco cataract surgery was a major ego deflation to her male colleagues. Then add in her being from the Melananted Nation .... It's minimize, deny and gaslighting time. Love when she said that she never doubted her accomplishment. 😍😍
I'm in tears, too! What a Mighty God We Serve!
I wish I could meet this wonder Dr Bath!!! you are a blessing to the Universe!!
Thanks Sister We love you for your resilience. Rest In Peace Queen. We never get the credit we deserve. No matter the stumbling block you cannot stop greatness. African people all over the world is a force to be reckoned with.🙏
Dr. Bath is so inspirational 😍❤️
"Keep in mind i never had anyy doubts" 😀😀😀😀🎊🎊
This woman needs to be known worldwide. I don't understand why there is such egos and hate when someone succeeds to better the human race. We need to start working together without prejudice. We need to help ourselves better and this planet we live in.
InetteMotoBiker, Yes exactly what I was saying to myself, I have not been on LinkedIn lately, Busy with my Invention and Project, The "Emergency Advisor Emergency Detector". I am so Happy to know of Patricia Bath's Story.
I Love her CONFIDENCE! It's Awe-striking...that means it struck a chord in my Spirit & Soul 😘
Dr. Bath was definitely an inspiration.
Thank you Patricia Bath
I wont stop saying it, "When we can see beyond gender, disability, social class, race, we will be so advance it will shock us."
Sean Blake Hi, I'm not sure if I would like to be on board with your comment (though it's been at least a year since you wrote it) and other comments like it because from what it sounds like you're saying that race sex and other traits that people don't get to choose about themselves should be overlooked, but wouldn't that imply that something is WRONG with those traits if you feel the need to "ignore" them? Truth be told you really can't overlook those things about people, most people come into the world looking a certain way and belonging to either sex, so that means no matter what it'll always be obvious that I'm black and female which I don't consider a problem, should I? I would rather not answer that, LOL! Goodbye!
We've always been inventors - we as in black people. We've always been creative! She needs to be acknowledged and applauded.
@@prefershe you.... Missed the point. Entirely

This is what a true scientist looks like - intelligent, inquisitive, meticulous, and humble.
An absolute inspiration and trailblazer.
Phenomenal.
Good for you Patricia, God Bless Your Heart and Soul!. And Congratulations, I am also a Inventor, and the First to Have a Breakthrough, of a Creation.
Whys is the title saying the FIRST.. She is the only the invent from the beginning and everyone else after followed suit. There is only one number one. Nobody remembers #2
Jnn F : exactly!!
Maybe because others have invented a completely new and better process.. Or a modified version of the original.
What a blessing. Thank you for sharing this story.
Am so proud of her
Are you related to her?
@@terri6854 She sponsored me to come to America when I was 11 and learn assistive technology. I love her. She inspires me to give back to the community
Thank you for posting this video. I will do more research on Dr. Bath.
Thank you my Queen!

I juts had surgery this Am and Zi send her my gratitude and love.
Ceux qui mettent le pousse à l'envers vous êtes des jaloux simplement. Je suis fière de cette Grande Dame 🇨🇬
Wunderschön!! 👊🏾
Wow! Just wow! Didn’t know This was an American invention . What a brilliant woman
KUDOS to our sista and Queen Dr. Patricia Bath. Yet another example of Black/African ingenuity, creativity and genius. I just hope she obtained her patents or otherwise protected her discovery and technology-including realizing and receiving the commensurate financial reward and benefit of such a medical breakthrough.
Owning a award giving to her! That’s awesome
Wow ! just learning about her today.
Never learned about her in the public school system that's for sure...
This woman is a serious expert in dealing with the eyes. She's an inventor... Why is her contribution stifled almost?
Blessed be her memory
BLESSINGS❤
People really don't understand how important and inspiring black inventors and innovators are for black children and black people in general, black history month needs to shine more light on inventors, entrepenuers, philosophers and innovators Martin Luther King is a good role model but he's not the only black man to have ever done anything. Thank God for the few documentaries of black inventors, America would have you believe we haven't contributed to society, for some reason the world needs to believe we're are lazy.
🙌🏾 What an inspiration!
Wow,
Yessss...
Portrayed by Scarlett Johansson
Steadno so sad 😔 but probably true.
Damn...
And they say we have such low IQ’s. 🙄
✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
Nice
Good
Black excellence.
This is useful for my project 😂
How is anyone the 'first person to invent?' To invent means to be the first. Clearly whoever titled this video could not bear to simply say 'Invented.'
She was the first...
He wouldn't look you in the face.... hmn! If he could steal your invention and took all the credit from it he would. These people are despicable.
Yah in His awesome splendor chose Dr. Bath to be the First Person (Black American Female} to invent Laser Cataract Surgery, removal. This in our lifetime, 1988!

So much for lower I.Q.
What's this lower IQ thing. Do they say black people have lower IQs?
Yeah, You! Doing it, being it, owning it like a girl!
rip
She looked so smart and beautiful all in white next to her stuffy Caucasian male counterparts
well......managable
She was a hottie
👍👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍
Why do they use the word "first"... Why because she's black? And is she really the first to invent something. Obviously not. It seems in a racist society, inventors, pioneers, creator, innovators are almost always recognized and esteemed without taking they're race into consideration when they are white. They're remembered as "America" inventors, pioneers, etc but when these remarkable men/women are not white they become invisible or at best they're ideas, inventions etc are put into a specific category. You see that in the New York Times best sellers list...the list is almost exclusively and entirely white. Black writers are not recognized as great "American" writers but as "black" writers and therefore, there becomes a place for them and their work--- a place of lesser importance, lesser significance and notoriety. For heaven sake, give this woman the credit she deserves as great "American" inventor. For once, take a break from the endless racist bull crap.
WTS X I Totally Agree, it is a Shame, the Issue, or Stigma is Hate, Jealousy, Being Envious of someone, of Color, Because of the GREAT Accomplishment He/She has Achieved. God gave this Wonderful Woman a Beautiful Gift, as he did myself.
No, that's wrong. In a country with such a large racist history as the USA, and still many racists even today, IT IS IMPORTANT to point out the fact that those who have been seen as inferior are not at all.
Go cry some more

The only myth I see is you trying to build a myth!
