'Bulla Ki Jana’ is all about us not knowing who we are, of thinking of life in terms of boxes, until we are enlightened. And then, you realise how meaninglessly you've compartmentalised life. During this journey as captured in the poem, the poet rids himself from all of the trappings and social bindings.
The very first verse of this poem is missing in most of the versions on the web and on youtube:-
Chal Bhulleya, chal oathay chaliay, Jithay saaray Annaiy
Na Koi saadi zaat pachaanay, te naa koi saanu Mannay
Translation:
I want to go where people do not care about (or seemingly blind to) my social status.
No one cares what my caste is, (nor my tribe), and people will not bow to me just because I come from a privileged background.
Then the rest of the poem makes sense as it focuses on personal quest and spiritual journey of self-enlightenment.
Bhulleh Shah, I am searching, I am looking within my soul, who am I in reality. In this search of self- enlightenment, I don't want to pretend to be a pious Mullah in the mosque. I don't care what people say about Non-Muslim traditions and customs. Nor I pretend to be the purest while looking down at others and unclean. I don't want to be Moses (prophet of Israelis) nor I want to be Pharaoh (who enslaved the same Israelis). Oh Bulleh Shah, I am still in search of self-enlightenment. The same theme repeats over and over and Bhulleh shah tries to break away and break open all of the superficial standards of being pure and being good.
With reference to translating Nadaun, it is a town in which he stayed for a while. The town is located in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. Nadaun here is related to the water, people seeking lord go to ganges, and many pilgrim rivers to bath to wash off sins, so Bulleh was explaining that lord is not in holy waters or rivers.
VLyrical thanks for this.. very meaningful song indeed.
Just pray, hope, wish that find save, secure palace 😁. Specially such a compartmentalised WHATEVER ☺

Very (!!) beautiful explanation, thank you!! ... And it's true, in the translation I knew, that first verse was missing .... which is a pity, because it is really exquisite and beautiful, even just on its own! ... And thanks for clarifying the meaning of his mentioning of Nadaun ... it's always an amazing feeling when one finally understands the significance or message behind a verse in a poem or song... The translation I read in the past didn't even mention a place called Nadaun; it probably just omitted that verse altogether... I'm happy that I have now found an excellent translation, verse by verse, including explanations for all the metaphors... And I can even read it while listening to the song! How awesome!! :) May every day of your life be full of blessings and miracles! :)
My Father used to sing this song in his specific tone which only i can remember and recollect, he passed away few year back, i heard this song today and i miss him so much now...May he rest in peace always !
Remember Rahil your father is always watching over you .. if u realise he actually has passed to a realm that poet in this song talks of ..where no one cares where you are from ur caste or creed or status and all the wordly boundaries

This is beyond countries, borders or cultures. The eternal search for oneself.
I wish only if you knew the the language then this song will hit your soul. This is the language of my ancestors. My grandfather was from Multan where Bulle Shah came from. Of course after 1947, my grandparents migrated to India. I still have some relatives who speak this language and I know the modern version a bit but would struggle to understand the original dialect.
Any you are welcome to explore more as there is no India culture, rituals, customs and the great history that there is. I wish you will make it one day.

Really deep ❤
Thanks😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇
but most people live in the fear of future by sacrificing their present their whole and when they are on their death bed they understand that they have died prematurely although their hair are white, but they have not really lived, but now that i have realised that, i am going away from my home, my loved ones to really understand the life and to really live. just seeing people in neighbourhood dying in their 30s who worked their ass off to live a happy life and now that they got everything they're gone. my only goal in my life is when i die , i want to be satisfied with my life, thinking that i had seen great things met beautiful people had thrilled moments the journey is not easy nowhere, but waiting is the worst part, listen to the call. you gotta differentiate the passion from the temporary happiness.

Ignorant Statement
If you listen to this song enough you will realize that Corona will spare you...
you know why?
Corona cannot kill you as "na mein human being na mein homo sapiens"...
No seriously if Corona does manage to kill you do not be worried my friends cause you will still be here if you die.
For you simply need to ask yourself this basic question: "Bulla Ki Jaana Main Kaun".
As long as you ask yourself this question so long you will be here cause if you are asking this question means you are thinking and we all know from Descartes: "You think therefore you are"
So keep thinking and asking such questions and Corona can never kill you. No need for any vaccines or anything.
Clear as mud?

I am preparing for state civil services exam ( HP ) and in one of my books there is mention of this poem in which bulleh shah mentions " Nadaun "
@@besarsinghbhardwaj7012 ji betay ji, Hazrat Syed Abdullah Shah Qadri (better known as Baba Bulley Shah Ji ) was sent by his Murshid/Guru to travel to various parts of the subcontinent as part of his spiritual quest and he also visited Nadaun in Punjab (then , now it's part of HP ) . Today, of course 'Nadaun ' mentioned in this Punjabi poem of Baba Bulley Shah, had become a symbol of the spiritual quest itself, it links all the mystic ways /paths be they Sufis or Bhagats or others. If you're really interested in knowing more about the poetry of Bulley Shah and his spirituality, you must please try and read the excellent translation by Taufiq Rafat, published by Oxford University Press, Karachi Pakistan Ed. This song brings a new dimension to Baba Bhulley Shah's poetry making to more understandable to our new generation. Sufis brought communities together rather than divide them.
Who said you that.
He is not a Sufi.

Listening in Pakistan 🇵🇰 since my childhood. My father's favorite song ever.. Love ❤
*Such meaningful songs are lost from Bollywood songs these days...*
Bas aunty police bula legi
Bhai sunta Kon hai abhi bollywood ko😂😂😂...sab copy chor hai
To be honest this song was never entertained by Bollywood. It rose to prominence on its own. Throw Bollywood out and bring artists like Jal, Raeth, Rabbi Shergill, Junoon, Euphoria, etc, then I think Hindi songs will take a completely different shape and will be far better than what we are listening to these days.
True that Munni n fevicol era
Ab to "bala bala shaitan ka sala" jaise songs aane lage
May God help India in this worst covid-19 phase... We are all beloved human beings of our God indeed.. he loves us all.. I believe India will heal up soon InshaAllah.. profound regards from Pakistan ❤️

It's feels good to know that to know that there are people in Pakistan that doesn't hate us. It would be so good when we will accept people each other indifferent of there religion. It's gives us hope that their is not just hate brewing between our countries and humanity is still alive.
In this depressing period of Covid this song gives strange kind of relaxation
When you are in the search for enlightenment and a connection with the almighty, every second you think “bulla ki jana main kaun” 🥺🙏
I was listening this song.....thirteen years passed....still listening....
When it will be old!!
this was my first introduction Punjabi ♫! my daughter Ruby was conceived just after the tsunami, (I had been on the coast of Pondi when it happened) -grateful to be alive...this was the soundtrack to my life at the time,a month later, in Ludhiana, always will have fond memories looking back on my life. A time when we were all so free. I miss india so much. :(.....
Great brother.. u are true human being
can’t believe this song is 15 years old. but still love it❣️
Evergreen.after many years of self study and research i finally understand the depth of lyrics.Bulleh shah(r.a) the legend and the way rabbi shergill has put in all of his best efforts.Best tribute to lyrics with amazing voice.
The opening line bulla ki jana main kon is the "fana fillah" stage in the journey of love with lord.At this stage one's being is entrirely immersed in love and is in absolute union with his lord that he loses his own soul and here two becomes one.
Fana fillah
Ever tried to listen this masterpiece on a mountain top? No? Try it, u will come across new enjoyable heights... I listen to this masterpiece everyday since 2006
In any other country, where people appreciate classy work (and work outside their movie industry), rabbi would have been a legend!
He is legend but u r confusing being famous with legend i guess
Even when I was a child and didn't understand a single word, I used to love this song along with my family who didn't comprehend the meaning of this song either.
That simply proves how beautifully this song is composed.
And now that I came to know the meaning behind this song, I have become totally speechless. It's tremendous ❤️
This song is absolutely amazing. Heard it when I was in my 8th class in high school. Felt in love with it immediately. My friends from Punjab told me that this poem is part of their curriculum.
This song is sufficient to show diversity of India.
We should preserve our diversity,it's our asset.
Are you looking at video or really listening this song has hidden message that wake up there is no caste no god we all are humans first so forget all religions god and all join hand together
Beautiful thought

I am not this physical body, nor am I the five organs of sense perception; I am not the five organs of external activity, nor am I the five vital forces, nor am I even the thinking mind ~raman maharshi.

Bulleh Shah was born in 1680. Pakistan was formed in 1947. If you can't have some shame, at least try to have some common sense.

In 2004 I was 16. That time I was listening to this song by radio Mirchi was difficult to tune from Bangladesh. And I didn't understand this Punjabi song but Unbeknownst to the mind loved this song.
Now I understand the lyrics of this song and It has ignited my mind.
Thank a lot for giving ENG sub.
The subtitles are not completely accurate though. Punjabi to English translation makes it lose some of its meaning.
Same here bro I also listen this beautiful song on radio mirchi r.j Arjit...🥰 miis those days
The beauty of this song can never be understood by the present teens. We were lucky to be raised during the golden days of desi music.
