Your long tutorials are OG! Years ago I started my uke journey with your tutorials. It felt like we worked on the songs together... Gradually building a steady rhythm and muscle memory. And you reminding us to breathe, sit straight and look up still gets me all the time 🥰🙏
I think this is a great “cheat”. I hesitate to call it a cheat though, because I play mostly alone and for my own pleasure. For me, finding a way to make a song I love doable is a WIN. I’m way past having anything to prove in my playing. Not trying to be professional or teach anyone else… deleting the excess frustration is the goal to have joyous playing. No one will know how I am playing this song, but I will know if it brings me joy to do it in a way that sounds better. In music, JOY is the goal. Many roads to that point. That being said, I do challenge myself, not looking for the easiest way to do everything. Thank you! 😊
This is a nice video discussing a different picking pattern. Thanks to your videos I have gone past beginner stage but am still a bit of a novice, but can strum quite a few chords now. I would like to do more finger picked songs, and this seems a lovely example. And yes, I struggle with Barre chords.
Thanks for showing the Pepe strings! I was wondering how I was going to deal with a string change on my Tiny Tenor. I totally agree with you on not being able to go back after getting a Romero Creations Uke! It is my favorite out of the 10 that I have. Would be my favorite to travel everywhere with but I would worry about something happening to it. I like most of the other ukes I have but this one is definitely special. If I get a second one someday, I may liquidate most of the other ones! 😁 But then again, gotta keep a high G, a pickup and the prettiest one. LOL!
I've been doing exactly this technique as I'm learning House of the Rising Sun and it's working well. I combined your "Strum Along to HOTRS" chord progression with a picking pattern I found online. Works great! It also allows me to avoid the heinously-difficult-to-reach E chord and substitute an E7- MUCH easier to reach and (to my ear at least) doesn't sound so bad. Same for the D chord, which I can't ever manage to play as a barre without muting at least two, sometimes all four, strings. I've tried cramming individual fingers together (am playing a baritone instrument with a capo on fret 5, to match the tones in the videos) but find that to be fraught with difficulty as well. Still experimenting...
Great to see your tutorial again, my ring finger to joint turns inwards so i find it hard , i use to love and enjoyed you lock down tutorials they were great,
This is great! I usually play this song on guitar and I don't love B minor on guitar either but I'm used to it after decades lol. I think I will eventually get the hang of B minor on the ukulele, but until then, you've given me a great way to get around it for a song that wants itself to picking! Thanks! ❤
Great lesson Bernadette! thank you for helping us to become better ukulele players, I don't think this is a cheat, more an adaptation! Becoming a Patreon member in your channel was the best decision I made when I picked up a ukulele :)
I'm a bass player. I picked up a Uke from a friend that was giving one away. I've always wanted to play "Time Adventure" by Rebecca Sugar... but Barre Chords smacked me up. It's like fingerstyle judo and it always sounds muddy and muted when I try to play it.. But you've shown me an alternative that works and sounds great! I like the cute way you say "Uke" and how you try to direct attention of your audience. Took me awhile to realize what you meant by asking us to "look up"... and yes, I was noodling around with my Uke.
Hello! I hope you have a wonderful day ahead. I had a question, why do I have a port to plug in something to the side of my guitar, like what do we exactly plug in that port??
I havent watched you in a long time. I had forgotten what a great teacher you really are.
Same for me. I am back to your tutorials.

Really helpful tutorial Bernadette. Thank you so much. Will practise playing this beautiful song. I've learnt so much from you.
I find I am just barring the Bm on strings C E and A. Still works and I guess it's what works for each player.
That's what I do too, then 4th fret on G string with ring finger.

You rock, thank you for this lesson! I love your rooms decor. It is so cheerful and colorful.😊
I enjoyed the lesson. I personally don't have a problem with barr chords, but I like the picking pattern. Thank you for that 🤠

Wooooow u will do that 😂
This is not “cheating”, it’s “choosing” to only play three strings! Guitar players don’t play all six strings all to time!!! 😂❤
❤️👍❤️
