I like the upgrade for Grimlock much but this doesn't work for me. It's way too expensive and in my opinion not necessary. Spike Witwicky is also available as a core class.
I also thought the Daniel was nice but I think hasbro could have realised that in the core class line with some improvements because the alt mode for Daniel is better than the one for Spike.
There is nothing to upgrade, modern figures are near-perfect, unlike the older ones, which always suffered from some flaw and looked good in one of the modes (or neither)
You know, I like the upgrade kit but you’re right they should have made a better kit I mean the horns and the sword they should keep and the shield parts they didn’t need or should have improved upon and given him a new head plate, a new tail gun (like the matrix workshop kit), new front dino feet to cover the hands and some back dino feet covers.
Dude, I can’t really see how they could replace the gold parts for clear parts. The pieces are pinned in place and you DON’T want to put or remove a pin from trans clearant plastic. As for the Daniel, they could have designed the thing before the core class figure was even revealed. I don’t think they got lazy or cheap, I think they just ran out of ideas.

11:32 both Hasbro and the DK-32 have the exosuit controller are facing down 🤦♀. I'm just stupefied by the level of (or lack thereof) of thought these people put into such figures.
I don't see anything in this set that is must have. I like the red horns, but I'm sure I can find those on ebay for much cheaper. However I don't agree with the desire to get panels to fill in the hollow space on the bottom of the feet. It's the bottom, you aren't supposed to see them and won't see them most of the time. Seems pointless to spend money to fill those spaces in even if they did offer it.
Not everyone just poses their figures static lol you make a good point but I would argue i almost always have visible feet bottoms due to running poses
for 40? no but i will say the Exo suit is more accurate when it comes to belonging to Daniel, because it is meant to be an older version of Spike's accurate in colours i will say, and parts forming for g1/86 actually is kinda accurate when it comes to weapons, it's more parts forming to transform that is a sin (aside from Skids and Mudflap in ice cream mode lol and Devastator)
I found a few more DNA designs for 2007 megatron (with new chest piece and hand cannon)bumblebee movie shatter (car mode gets a new head)(jet mode gets new arms)and Dotm Dino (new legs) also a 86 sludge kit
This would be worth $40 if it had a fix for the horrendous proportions, like bigger/longer arms and maybe a smaller chest;I should just wait and see if a KO with correct proportions gets made.
40 bucks for those 3 pieces😕, it is almost the price of a whole slag, I’d rather buy 2 slags. Also why didnt they add some white horns, many collectors are complaining about the hollow horns. Upgrade kit, but its is not upgrading the figure, price is ridiculous, they didnt gave much thought about this one, and the slug one. Upgrade what the fans want, listen to the fans, they give you the money, and this should have been 25 dollars at most. Disappointed.
This feels like a lazy cash grab from DNA. I just got all of Grimlocks upgrades and gap fillers plus all of the gap fillers and sword for Slug.. From JRC Customs on eBay for a grand total of 33 dollars.
Well...it doesn't look any dumber than how Hasbro configured the weapon storage for the old PotP Dinobots... especially poor PotP Grimlock. (Given how the PotP Combiner feet make platform shoes for PotP Grimmy's T-Rex mode, methinks I see where Hasbro got the idea for Siege Astrotrain's shoes...) To be fair with that exo-suit, it's ball joints...and tolerances don't exactly seem to be one of DNA Design's strengths - remember the kits for PotP Optimal Optimus? Great stuff, but the supposed 5mm pegs on that large front wheel & the swords DO NOT fit those thumb ports in the replacement articulated hands well...they'll get stressed almost immediately - so the transforming exo-suit just barely gets a pass from me. Especially when you consider that even Takara sucks balls at painting the hair & facial features of the human figures. Besides...some joint tightening agent should help. I will agree that this definitely doesn't justify the price point, though. The kit for SS86-6 Grimlock had way more value for the money. A lot of their other kits have more bang for your buck, really...
To be fair there isn’t much you could improve on for the SS86 Sludge. A sword and better Daniel was much needed. This definitely should have been combined with Snarls kit.
Could of just been the sword and the replacement no-gap horns (they're red to match the original and PotP toys rather than animation models) for 20-25 bucks and they'd make a ton of money off of it. No one wants to replace Daniel with a working model, Daniel never belonged in this set in the first place. There's no question on quality, DNA Design always does fine work in that department. But it's typically all useful, so this is a real flop for them in that regard. I want someone to just do a set of Dinobot swords once we have all five. JUST the swords that Hasbro keeps emitting for some reason.
Bro, not complaining or anything, BUT... I THINK you have drastically confused the exo-suit DANIEL (the son!) that came with SLAG, for the Core class SPIKE (His dad!)... So unfortunately, your critique of DNA DANIEL vs. HASBRO core SPIKE is fairly irrelevant, as they're very different. You SHOULD have been comparing this DNA version vs. that pre-posed piece of crap packed with SLAG. 😉😉😉 Honest mistake, BUT I think if you did that and filmed an addendum to this, your opinion would change slightly since THIS guy actually transforms and Hasbro's DID NOT... That automatically makes him a definite upgrade!😂😂😂 Anyway, an excellent review, but I agree, NOT worth $40. Bad, DNA... Bad!!!😑

Earlier third party upgrade kits completely changed the figure. From looks to transformation. Nowadays, they are just accessories and gap fillers.
I remember Fansproject Bruticus, those were the days

BDT studios made a 3D printed kit that fixes the feet problem on sludge
The "GO BETTER STUDIO GX36 GX-36 GAP FILLERS FOR STUDIO SERIES 86 SS86 SLAG UPGRADE KIT" made Slug 90% better. I recommend it!
Nonnef has been fixing my Dinos & I've been happy
This is definitely not worth $40, nor is it worth $30 imo. If it was $20-$25 then maybe it’d be worth it. Phenomenal review as always PvP!
Someday we will get a human character figure so hyper cartoon accurate to the TF show that it will have actual eyes painted on.
This this is like a ea microtransaction where you spend 50 bucks on the figure but you have to spend another 40 bucks just for a sword
Well it doesn’t really need swords. These are based on the show/movies and only snarl had a sword. also grimlocks transparent parts were neck. This is the entire head and would be a lot harder
There's a different upgrade kit in Ali Express that actually tries to give show-accurate horns. It's also cheaper than DNA's kit.

40$ for a flopped upgrade kit is just a money grab 😂 😂😂
This upgrade tried to make this figure more awesome, but it went terrible.
Yeah, especially if it becomes a parts forming.
I had to cancel my pre-order for this kit after watching this video. I was expecting more for $50.
This is why I always usually buy at least two of each character. One to keep in robot mode and the other to keep in alt mode.
