Thank you Clint! I was having odd idle issues, surging, and couldn’t figure out what was going on. Did a simple voltage test after inspecting the air line, and my #2 wire was fluctuating from 2.5-1.7… all over the place. Going to order a new sensor today. This channel rocks, keep putting the knowledge out there. All of us weekend warriors appreciate it!

Awesome video Clint! Been chasing this issue with No Cel on our 02’. Just posted a video with what fixed the mystery. It was the Map Sensor. Replaced the hose as well. Like a brand new truck again, biggest difference was the throttle response and power is back!! Great channel.

You are also right on getting good parts the first time get ford motor craft. Parts like power relays or glo plugs you also talk a little bit on how a person can tell when they need these items by watching your red light on the dash how long it stays on it stays on5to 7 secs you problem ok lf it still hard to start need gloplugs thanks for the show 20 yrs ford tech l.f.k.

I rebuilt my turbo with a KC DIY kit. Truck ran better.
Next year I decided to put a turbosmart wastegate actuator on.
    Started throwing a P1249
PCM boost and actual boost both showed peak boost 22-23 PSI
    Installed a boost fooler.
    Same reading.
    Bought a different boost fooler
    Same result.
Put a new OEM MAP sensor and now the PCM only sees 15 PSI and no more P1249 code.
Nothing I had read about throwing that code suggested that it could be the MAP sensor.

With my map plugged in it will not accelerate past 1200rpms. Once I unplug the map sensor I can rev a lot faster but it does have some hesitation flatness to it. I replaced the map sensor and the exhaust back pressure sensor and no difference. When I start it up regardless of being hot or cold it lopes. Until I get the rpm’s above 1000. It does the same thing in neutral. What else should I look for. I think pcm may be bad. It just happened instantly it wasn’t like it kept getting worse.

I’ve got a 1996 and P107 code. When I tested the number 2 pin I was getting 2.5 volts and when revving up to 1200 rpm I got no change whatsoever. So does that mean my sensor is bad? I was just reading a reply to my post on The Diesel Stop and a guy said that the 94-97 Powerstroke Map Sensors operate differently than the 99-03. He said the 94-97 generate a variable frequency with pressure rather than variable voltage with pressure. He said your method of testing only applies to 99-03. Any help would be appreciated!

I have the same question. If I'm checking the voltage from the wiring, is the pigtail bad? How do you check the actual sensor?
I did, however, check the responsiveness of my truck without the MAP connected and it seemed like it was more responsive. With the MAP connected, it seemed to dog a little more. Might be in my head!

Sorry for my ignorance...I am a week end 'mechanic' . I have 3 questions 1. The picture you show of the pin numbers is from the perspective of looking at the connector, not the sensor correct? So if looking at the sensor it would be a mirror image...#1 pin on the left, not the right. It obviously wouldn't affect the position of #2 center pin since there are only 3 pins...
    2. Do you not need to check pin #3?
    3. How do you suggest making electrical contact to the pins since the plug is still attached to the sensor?

    • @CUSTOMWORKS7.3PSD

The MAP sensor should have 5 volts going to it, and be returning 0-5 volts when reading a pressure of 0-51 PSI. KOER
Remember that it is an absolute pressure sensor, so at engine off, it should read atmospheric pressure, which should be about 14.7 PSI at sea level.
