Augustin, I have never regarded Schostakovich as music when you are feeling bad, but perhaps you are right. The bottom in Schostakovich is the the bottom in you/me. We are the same, more or less.
Sorry to bother you 6 months later, but you have a great ear! Shostakovich wrote three quartets that fairly explicitly engage with awareness of his own mortality: the first, eighth, and fifteenth. He very famously wrote this one in only a few days after seeing the devastation of Berlin in world war 2. He intended to end his own life on the night that it was first played for him, but when his friends finished the piece, he broke into tears and asked them to play it again, and again after that, and he chose to live.
This is a milestone in chamber music. Never can it be neglected. One of Shostakovich masterpieces, in a small format. Thank you all for this wonderful rendition!
Jansen is truly sensational: such understanding of the style and character. Amazing sound with "meat". Just perfection. She is extremely emotional and passionate which isn't matched 100% by the rest of the musicians.
@@donaldallen1771 I have to oppose your nonsense, Donald Allen! "You can't expect others in a chamber group to play as she does." All in this chamber group are highly qualified, top notch of all chamber musicians. Together they all together make this Schostakovich unforgettable.
And Yaroslav Kargin, remember that each musician has his/her personality, and if not all of them has Janines exploding temperament they still are higly qualified, and among the best chamber musicians in this world.
This is one of my favorite interpretations of Shostakovich's string quartet 8! These four really get deep into the sound; I've heard other recordings that are too fast to me and lose musicality.
Quand on pense qu'un type comme Pierre Boulez détestait Chostakovitch (ici transcrit en français). Qui écoute aujourd'hui les œuvres de Boulez ? En plus, l'interprétation de ce quatuor est vraiment magnifique !
The second mvm is horribly played.... They lost coordination and pulse ... and because of that climax lost it's punch Janine rushed into it without listening to others. She is not a bad chamber musician but sadly she shifted into solo mood this time instead of listening to the others as well.
Shostakovich is amazing. If you listen his music when you feel bad, you can forget everything you have in your mind and just plunge in the music
yo creo que te deprime más de lo que ya estabas jaja

As well as anger there is a sadness almost bordering on despair in this quartet and this interpretation brings out both. Excellent

Agree, I just feel like it wasn't aggressive enough at places
her bowing is very compassionate
Janine Jansen is a unique musician. You can't expect others in a chamber group to play as she does.

Finally found Janine's full ver for this piece
Exactly. Wanted to see her in full after the legendary rachlin 2017 performance of the 2nd part

Yesss, I found Janine's full version!
Yay!
You did it!
I think i heard this quartet for hundred times and it buffles me every time.
Bravissimo!! 👏👏👏What a great performance! 🎶 Thank you so much for sharing! 🤗
Truly wonderful performance!
Just brilliant, this playing...Thank you Janine, Boris, Amihai and Jens Peter.
Passion and excitement in both composition and performance! Beautifully done.
Thanks!!
Geweldige uitvoering, de intensiteit spat er vanaf bij janine. Een van shostakovich's mooiste werken
BRAVO hartelijk bedankt!! Prachtig! Droevig begin!!😪
Gorgeous, absolutely beautiful!
Maravillosa interpretación 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 bravo.

@@amiralikhalili3461 it was the cellist's fault as well
The cellist mixed it up big time there. At 6:16 the cello starts lagging a whole bar behind even.
It's Janine's fault, she played an extra measure
@@amiralikhalili3461 Truly... Borodin Quartet's performances of DSCH quartets are the non plus ultra.
Janine!!! I love her and the intense way of her renditions. This second movement it's a little probe!!!
ICONIC 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
bravissimo. Magnifique interprétation, passionnelle et d'une immense précision sonore et rythmique. Une partition très vivante.
It takes an elite quartet to play this piece.
Thats cleanest version of the Allegro Molto I’ve ever heard.
Absolute Queen.
IT'S SO GOOD!
The violist also is great. So intense
Magnifique !
awesome performance. phone ringing around 17:10. thats annoying
One could interpret this as the imminent call of death
Yeah for real, what is up with Shostakovich and his pieces interrupted? His first cello concerto was constantly interrupted by a radio in the audience
Bravo
I am crazy about her🤩🤩🤩🤩
Dit gaat door merg en been!
Bravi! Bravi! Bravi!!
Very interesting quartet by Shostakovich.
Listen to the cello at 6:02 and 6:16. The rhythm is off in one and he's completely lost and lagging behind in the other. :/

Big mistake in 2nd mov.
This one almost good tempo
Che quartetto !
6:26 oops...
But they recovered-phew

How do you pronunce that? Sorry for my english ;;
Pronounce what? In English the composer's name is transliterated Shostakovich, accent on -ko-
Shostakovich: String Quartet No. 8
Janine Jansen great as usual. The others couldn't always keep up with some mistakes here and there. Can anyone recommend another recording?

i can’t find the full performance but i do like this clip from the 2nd movement!
Belcea Ouartett
@@konservatuvar5613 Thank you! That's another excellent recording.

America under Joe Brandon.
When did Alex Jones start playing the violin?!
Ill stick to emersons... that second mvt was horrible
2nd movement: jewish theme? Kind totally not together 😂😂😂
Composed by S. After a visit to Dresden, the German city bombarded at the end of WW2.
2:27 did someone in the audience fart?....
