- I’m about to watch a university production of "Legally Blonde: The Musical"-tickets were $10 in advance, $12 at the door. Let's hope for the best! From the start, it’s clear the performers are having fun, but there are major issues with sound, performance, and overall production quality. The cast is struggling with their parts, and the costumes and staging are inconsistent.

it changes, meaning they did this several times to get the best shot. meaning this was the BEST THEY COULD DO. bonus, there was applause at the end. THEY PERFORMED THIS IN FRONT OF AN AUDIENCE.
Alli Faith the first one (the one Elle doesn’t try on) changes color and I believe style too. This means that they had multiple different shots of this one part and they got this out of it

I've grown a much higher respect for costumes and costume selection after becoming the head of my theatre's costume crew. Let me tell you: If you can't distinguish characters based off of their acting, voice parts, or hairstyles, then you have to at least try through their clothing. The selection made in this production is honestly disgraceful to the original piece- Not only does all of it look like it came from the girl's section of a Marshall's, but none of it is appropriate to the characters or what the play is literally saying through the lyrics. Costumes are so, so, so important to any production, and a good choice in costumes presents a good understanding of the text from the actors and directors. You cannot just grab and go with this sort of thing.

Yesss as the costume lead in my high school the amount of respect I've gotten for all costumes is a lot. In February I'm gonna be costume lead for legally blonde plus elle in half the shows and I'm working so hard to make sure I'm focusing equally on both cause I dont want the costumes to fall short😭

Adam Andrews that happened once in to production of a chorus line I was in. The girl who was playing Shelia was in the middle of at the ballet and was singing off key.... the director cut her mic off... on the night it was being taped... 😂😂😂

Oh, this is honestly kinda sad. I feel for these girls. They are so young, their voices are underdeveloped. You can tell they probably have nice voices in them, but have not been taught how to use them. In reality, a musical like Legally Blonde is extremely vocally demanding and not a great choice of show for these kids. I admire their enthusiasm and the effort they put into being excited, but can tell that this was hard for them.

I actually do children’s theater with this age group and I hope we’re better than this!!!!! I mean sure we’re the official community theater of our state and we have a bigger budget than a school, but all it really takes is a couple passionate kids and a director with a vision.

I’m at drama right now, we are practicing this play and they had just given us a lecture on how unenthusiastic we are meanwhile we can sing and they said “kids from around the country do this and the ensemble makes it energetic” and this immediately popped up in my head.

I too am critical of educational theatre productions and have caught much heat for my comments at times, but the criticism is always on the adults in charge of the production who are too lazy and/or themselves inadequately informed (being kind) about the art of theatre. As a teacher and director of youth theatre, I always aim to pull off a production that leaves people in amazement of what kids are capable of when properly guided and nurtured as artists. The goal is never simply "to have fun" when doing theatre. Fun is a byproduct! Theatre should always be fun-- if it's not, something is wrong. The fun is when the crowd jumps to their feet before the first bow and can't stop applauding and "whoo"ing because they loved your show so much. Most youth productions will never get there-- they get polite applause and "how did you memorize all of those lines?" or "I could never get up there like that." If your audience isn't effusive and glowing, you didn't do enough. Period.
Exactly! Very great points. I don't fault the kids at all for this thing on stage. The directors aren't doing something or maybe the process was too short or something was a miss for sure. Even so, to think THIS is a worth while performance to upload and share to help sell tickets is just too comical.

I am currently in rehearsals for this production that our community theater is putting on. I’ve been in many musicals and plays and this one is one of the MOST difficult to tackle. The musical score is a doozy. As a vocalist who has sung professionally these songs were challenging for me even. They seem simple but they’re far from it. Also, Elle’s character is one of the most difficult as well. Why would they choose THIS for these young kids. There are so many other musicals they could of done. But if this is a school for the arts, they need to put more into helping the students learn how to put on a decent performance...not Tony award winning, but believable at least. This looks like first day of rehearsal! Sad.
Got callbacks for Elle Woods tomorrow and I’m watching this to make myself feel better.
