4:40 THIS is the point where he falls in love with her, when he's sniffing her scent off the paper and the girls skip in reminding him of her after he smells it, truly, so. cute.
I think he kind of admires her before, mostly thinks she's odd. But he still does all those nice things before even when he didnt even like her: give her a coat, help her study, give her that present. He did all those things when he didn't even have a crush on her and then in this moment when she aced her big test, he saw something in her that no one else saw and finally fell in love. Just perfection. Also I love the moment where she does the bend and snap in court and the way he looked at her in admiral was so cute. AND when warner proposed to viviane in front of her emmett immediately looked at her, seeing her completely shattered IMMEDIATELY runs to the board scanning for her name. Trying to make her feel better. And the fact that he was so confident in her that he knew she'd be admitted before even seeing her name. Wow
BONUS: The fact that he didn't fall in love with her right away actually shows so much of his character. He didn't fall in love with her immediately like every other guy in the musical because he didn't care about her looks. He fell in love only after he saw her dedication and intelligence after the test, meaning he got attracted to her for what's inside not outside. And the fact that his whole character is a parallel to Warner, who at the start of the musical made clear his reason for liking her: "Every guy dreams of having a girlfriend, that LOOKS like you".
4:02 this moment where we first see Warner, her past lover, and Emmett, her future lover side by side of her- warner on the left and emmett on the right like the pages of a book, they perfectly demonstrate their relationship with Elle. Warner is scrutinising her and doubting her intelligence by how she possibly got in to Harvard, while Emmet was welcoming and introducing her to Harvard with her roster the same as every other smart person there despite her looks. And laughed at her thinking she was joking because he thinks she's smart

it's not just the love, it's the REESPECT. they both respect each other so damn much, that's what makes their relationship so beautiful
They could’ve done the same thing and made Emmett like a “white knight” type character where’s he’s a jerk but were meant to root for him over Warner cause he’s “worse in comparison”. But they NAILED IT. Absolutely set the standard.

One of my favorite parts that wasn't in here is in the courtroom scene where they are changing locations. Right after she sends the two ladies off to get Enid's hair permed right before it goes dark, Emmitt grabs Elle's hand. Its such an underrated and cute moment.

I like how they took the movie's generic afterthought of a love interest added out of obligation, and developed it into a relationship that gets shipping videos in the musical.

The writers not only understood the assignment, but got extra credit

One of my favorite lines in the show is when Emmett says “They laughed at me like they’re laughing at you; we can’t win if we don’t follow through.” Emmett at this point already views Elle as his equal. Their experiences aren’t similar by a long shot but he’s saying “Hey, this happened to me too. You can show them, just like I did.” And THATS why he’s so motivated to help her. He went through this before and didn’t have any help, so he can help her this time around. Like UGH, THEYRE LITERALLY IN LOVE!!

I cant I discovered this musical in 2020 and at one point I watched it everyday and I’m still not tired of it HAHA they are so in love I swear- ok but fr I love the movie but the romance was so lackluster and there wasn’t much chemistry between them that if Elle and Vivian ended up together I wouldn’t even question because at least they had chemistry 😭😭
But the musical and the actors just nailed it so perfectly huhuhu they’re so cute together and that ending!! always makes me emotional man, it’s so wholesome how the whole class was so happy for them and ueueueue😭 i cri HAHAHA i mean, come on, elle WOODS and emmett FORREST??? u cant see that and say that they weren’t made for each other!
