I've never understood why schools care what a student's hair looks like. "It's distracting". They're teenagers. No amount of forcing will get them to pay attention if they don't want to.
I was always faster at getting my work done than other kids. Instead of distracting the class I would pull out a book and read. Teachers didn't like that. Even though they knew why I was doing it (we had this conversation every day) they would still single me out. "Don't you have homework you could do?". No. I'm already done that too. Sure, don't discipline the kids who are causing a distraction by talking to each other after being done. Discipline the kid doing something educational. And no, I don't think giving extra work is a good compromise. It feels like a punishment. If it's optional that's different, but I was often forced into a harder work load because I was a smart kid (something that has not helped adult me at all).

    • @sav3728
      @sav3728 4 года назад +133

Exactly! I don't understand why schools are so hung up on "distractions". Especially if it's someones appearance because I'm not going to fail all my classes because this one kid has blue hair. Also, if doesn't help with the students self esteem if schools are constantly punishing them for expressing themselves.

Idk if this could be considered “rebelling” but here it is.
One time when I was in the 5th grade, my history teacher divided us into 2 groups so we could play a game, similar to family feud or something. You had to press a button if you knew the answer to the question, etc etc. Anyway, halfway into the game I look over to my teammates and tell them that I think the game is rigged and that my teacher favored the other team over us. So, one of my teammates got fed up and told the teacher about it. My teacher then proceeded to tell our team to go sit back down where our desks are if we didn’t want to participate. Now, any ‘normal’ student would be too afraid to see the consequences of what would happen if you were to actually go sit back down in your sit, but I suppose I had a sudden surge of confidence or something, because I stood up, grabbed my chair, and dragged it back to my desk and sat down. Then, after a good 30 seconds, two more of my teammates decided to do the same. The entire class was in silence for a solid 2 minutes. It was fun. It was a shitty teacher, too. She was a fucking Karen, I shit you not.

Had a VP that was very overzealous about cellphones, and would sometimes be seen in the 8th grade lunch hall, peering down over people’s heads, trying to see if they were on their phone. One day, the only clock in the cafeteria broke, and it took them a week to fix. On the third day, I pulled my phone out to check the time. Seconds after I put it back, the VP is right on me. So she tells me to put it in the office, and then immediately radios in that my phone was being taken. I think quickly, and remembered that there was a bathroom on the way. I slipped in and quickly set like 15 alarms for the school day. After the fifth time, they called me down and said to turn my alarms off, because they couldn’t. They had to listen to 5 alarms time out. I turned off all of them, saying that I use my phone to get to class on time, and remember dates, and that I was late to 6th period because of that. (I actually just waited in the hallway until I was late.)

I had a biology teacher that was always late for class. By like 5 minutes or so. Not much time. But when you’re in a high school built for about 1000 students that actually has 1700 students at the school. So the corridors were like a stampede sometimes. So waiting out in those corridors even for an extra second was not ideal. Also a crowd of about 30 stationary student did not help the flow of movement in the corridors. So the teacher would just show up late with no apology or anything, acting like he was on time. But the thing is. Whenever a student was late (even by as little as 5 minutes) he would give them a lunchtime detention. This went on for long enough and I, as well as many other students, got pissed off. I was friends with the teacher that ran detention (let’s call him Mr steel). He was ex-army and I was in the cadets so we would often talk about the military etc and we would exchange war stories (his being better of course). So I explained the situation to mr steel and convinced him to give me a detention slip and got him to stamp it (each teacher had a stamp to show the detention was legit and needed to be attended). I filled it in. Wednesday rolls around and sure enough. The biology teacher is late so I give him the detention slip. He says “what is this” so I reply “what does it look like? You were late you know the rules” and walk to my seat and start the lesson (this was after lunch so the detention was dated for Thursday lunch). We have biology after lunch on Thursday. I say nothing as it was only really a joke to me. But what I didn’t know is that mr steel had logged the detention on the school’s computer system. So, in the middle of the lesson I hear footsteps marching up the hallway. As they get closer to the classroom, the floor starts to shake. Then, mr steel basically kicks the door open. Leans into the classroom and in the most intimidating voice I have ever heard. Says “why weren’t you in detention today?” The biology teacher says “that was a real detention?” To which mr steel, with wide eyes and a look as if he was about to rip the biology teacher limb from limb just nods his head. Then slams down a piece of paper on the countertop next to the door. It’s another detention. Dated for Friday lunchtime. The whole class are trying not to laugh as they all see how scared the biology teacher is. Friday, the biology teacher comes into class after lunch. This time, he was abound 10 minutes late. But the door was unlocked so the class could just go inside and start working so we didn’t mind. Anyway, he comes in late and says “sorry I’m late kids, I had to stay behind a bit after detention”. The biology teacher mentioned it on all of my following reports until I finished school, had a private chat with me about it. Telling me how it was very embarrassing for him and I told him that I didn’t care tbh, he told my form tutor who also had a private chat with me, and he also emailed my parents about it. Hilarious. My greatest achievement. I forever became known no longer as Matt ***** (that’s a redacted second name. Not a cuss) but as “the kid who gave mr Smith a detention”.
TL:DR - managed to give a teacher a detention and got a 30 year British army veteran to make him attend it, also scaring him shitless in the process

So in 8th grade every boy and some girls were pissed about it because it gets really hot
so when spring came and it became hotter, all the boys and girls came together and wore a skirt to school for like a whole month the teachers were very confused and pissed because "boys weren't supposed to wear skirts" they called parents but pretty much all the parents said "they're following the school rule" so they had to change it to "no shorts or skirts" a pretty stupid rule but it was great non the less to see the teachers horrified faces when we walked into class with skirts on

I wish my school had the cooperation to pull this off. The (main, there are other rules for uniform) rule is basically, ‘girls - skirts, boys - shirts’, meaning girls’ skirts have to be no more than a credit-card length above the knee, and boys’ shirts have to be tucked in. For girls, if your skirt is to short, you get an immediate after-school detention, then isolation if it’s too short again. For boys, you get 3 warnings then a lunch time detention if your shirt isn’t tucked in. I wish we could organise a day where the boys wear short skirts and the girls wear skirts (trousers and anything else isn’t allowed for girls) with their shirts untucked.

My country doesn't do dress codes. A degree of appropriateness is expected, but no school really has anything specified. The only rule we have is to not wear outerwear in class. I had so much fun with this back when I was an edgy teenage goth. I was a 15-year-old coming to school in a corset, a frilly skirt, fishnets and very high-heeled boots, with a full-on war paint of makeup and my bright red hair teased into a puff. The only thing the teachers could reprimand me for was to take my mini top hat off in class, and that was only after guys complained that they had to take their beanies off. I'm a lot more tame now that I'm in college, but those days were fun.

I got a new principal in elementary school and this woman decided right away to pit students and parents have been friends for years against each other so that there were no loyalties anymore and she could have a Third Reich dictatorship at the school. She decide to issue new uniforms where girls could wear burgundy skirts and vest and made it so only her pets got them so every single popular girl in the eighth grade or her favorite got to wear them. Her one weird rule was only seniors could wear black but within regulations. We were allowed to wear khaki dress pants to school that's a part of our uniform. So I got a pair of black khaki pants same brand and everything along with a black sweater and wore it as my uniform for the entire year. She can never say anything or call me on it. Tried to get me in trouble and made it so that my name wasn't put in the graduation program as a final middle finger even though I was the only kid in my grade with my last name and there were only 20 of us graduating. I got the last laugh though because she got removed as principal a few years later and her secretary was caught embezzling most of the school funds so I sat back watch and drunk a big pot of tea that day.

Our school doesnt allow blankets, but that rule isnt enforced by the teachers, most staff, and even the principal, all accept for one AP. She hates me, even tho I'm the good student. I've never been in a fight, never disrespectful, dont break dress code, but this AP always bitched to me about something I'm wearing. (Example, during the winter I wore a beanie, almost everyone had a beanie, while walking to lunch (the lunch building is in a separate building) I had it on. Once inside, I mean like three steps in, she calls me out for it. I roll my eyes and take it off. I sit at my table. from were I sit I can see the door and everyone who walksin. 5 other students walk in with a beanie, and she didnt call them out. Next day, she is wearing a beanie)
So anyway. I had a blanket, it was the day before spring break, the AP called me out in the morning. She told me to turn it in to the attendance office. I didnt, throughout the day I walked past all the other AP's, teachers and even the principle, none of them said anything. One AP asked were I got it, it was a nice soft blanket. Towards the end of the day, she called me out and pointed out that I didn't turn it in when I was told. She confiscated the blanket and told me I can get it at the end of the day.
So the end of the day comes, and i go to her office. Multiple students are there picking up blankets and hats that she has confiscated. I didnt see mine nor the AP. I asked the teacher who was helping the students get their things back and she said that it was locked in the AP's office. And the AP was at the busses. It this point I was beyond pissed. I go to the busses area and low and behold, she wasnt there.
My 5 dollar blanket from Walmart was locked in an AP's office all of spring break, and now thanks to the caronavirus, to this very day. I am obviously angry about this.
When and if we go back, I'm going to get my blanket back, and turn it into a badass "fur" coat jacket and wear it to school.
    Wish me luck

I was never a massive rebel but I did do one fun thing. So I took my health class later than everyone else, resulting in me being the oldest student in the class. Our school was an abstinence only class, and when I raised my hand to ask about condoms, I was shot down. But our health teacher had to step out a lot because she was also one of the sport coaches. When she stepped out that day, I stood up, looked my class over, and said "okay you're all too young to reproduce and I know not everyone wants to be abstinent so here's how to be safe". I demonstrated how to put on a condom with my hairbrush and told everyone if they needed condoms I was your guy (I knew where to get as many condoms as needed for free). I quickly became an underground condom dealer, and nobody suspected me because usually I'm a really quiet, agreeable person.

As soon as the bell rang he immediately started tearing into the class, insulting people, calling them worthless, claiming none of deserved to be in the school let alone in the class. He went on this tirade for close to 10 minutes. He brought much of the class to tears. At one point I had enough and give him the finger.
He called me into the hall, yelled at me for another five minutes, threatening me and promising to get me expelled. I pointed my finger into his chest, told him that his behavior was unacceptable, that I had close to 30 witnesses that will gladly share with the school administration what had transpired and that he was more than welcome to send me to the Administrative office so they could discuss the matter with my parents. Obviously he wasn't expecting my response (his eyes got wide) and sent me in for disciplinary action. Fortunately Mom backed me up, nearly tearing the Dean's head off over the phone.
I got three detentions for the finger and he got fired. The following day the regular teacher apologized for what happened.

Our secondary school (England) had just partnered to Amnesty International and I joined it was a huge press thing (I joined because I got a lesson off a month)
I got super into it and actually learnt a load of human rights in the book we studied.
Comes to my last year of school, I hated P.E, we had about 60 kids getting changed in one room and I wouldn't call them bullies but kinda pervy straight kids would do f'd up things, rub their balls on your things, try and cup an arse cheek etc.
Anyway I got sick of it, ended up finding this section about right to privacy, during one of our first assemblies showing off amnesty international I had written a speech a liking our treatment to prisoners as we were forced to strip naked and sexually harassed by peers.
My Headmaster was red, never seen someone as red as he was. Nobody said anything after I spoke nor brought it up after. I was taken to the Headmaster straight after the assembly.
My P.E teacher, Form tutor, Head of year and Headmaster were in the room telling me that I can't weaponise Human rights as an agenda.
I was told my mother would be notified, I was excited for them to call her. They said they'd bring in the Amnesty international Rep.
The Rep and my mum actually really stood up for me. The Rep even showed them where word for word in their book the similarities have been drawn from.
Anyway it ended with an ultimatum, if I had my own private place to get changed I'd do P.E
P.E comes and my P.E teacher tells me that he's found a place for me to change where it's private. Picks up my p.e kit, walks me to the bathroom and throws it in a cubicle. Then tells me to get changed, but I turn to him and pull out my book, preparing for this issue. I specify the human right to dignity and list off the description.
He just said, you can go here or to the principle, I told him to lead on, as we're walking there he just pulls me aside and says that the Principle just doesn't want to see me because the Rep had pulled up a investigation into the cases of Sexual harassment, it apparently caused a huge stink and if I just kept my mouth shut he'd let me skip P.E. Dude, that's all I wanted.
Anyway, if you were in a certain school in Hertfordshire, England circa 2010, I'm guilty I only got myself out of that situation, to a particular ruthless Indian kid called Dylan, I did all of this after you got your friends to bend over a kid so you could try pushing a pencil up his arse as everyone watched. I hope you are somewhere terrible.
TLDR: Got out of P.E for a year thanks to weaponising Human Rights.

We had some dumb rules in our school, and we liked to break them stealthily or in dumb ways that they technically couldn't do anything about. One of the rules was 'socks can only be black or white, and can only be ankle height'. Thing was, girls were allowed to wear the boys' trousers to school, so my female friends and I always wore trousers long enough that they covered the tops of our shoes, so you couldn't see our socks. Whenever any of us were in class together, we'd make each other laugh by waiting until the teacher couldn't see one of us and then yanking up our trouser legs to reveal odd, multicoloured thigh high socks that looked ridiculous. The teachers never noticed. We also had a stupid thing where we could only wear the school sweater or the school blazer, not both at once. Me and several people complained that the school was always freezing in Winter and we wanted to wear both to keep warm, but they insisted we couldn't, and said that if we were cold, we could wear a t-shirt under our school shirts. They didn't specify which type of t-shirt, so for the rest of school when it was cold enough, I wore obnoxiously coloured t-shirts under my shirt, including band shirts, and while teachers commented on it not looking proper enough, they couldn't make me take them off because the rule just stated 'a t-shirt'. So I'd be walking around wearing the regular uniform, but with the edges of a bright red t-shirt sticking out underneath that said 'Green Day' or another band really obviously through the white shirt.

It was incredibly tacky but everyone loved it. Well the school board saw things differently... all of the participants in Hawaiian shirt Tuesday were reprimanded because the shirts were “indicative of gang related activities”. All of the other teachers complied and stopped wearing Hawaiian shirts. But not Mr. L. Instead, he went out and redid his entire wardrobe so that he could wear Hawaiian shirts EVERY DAY EXCEPT FOR TUESDAY. And so far, as far as I can tell, he’s kept this up for at least 7 years.

We had these people in Elementary who we called “Yard Duties” because they had to watch us 6th graders in case we tried to escape or anything happened. We usually shared lunch with the 5th graders and the school had a half a fence for some random reason I could only guess was to stop balls from going into the street despite the balls always flying over the fence.
Anyways, it was raining one day and it was only raining until around the middle of the day.
We usually aren’t allowed to play on the grass and we aren’t allowed to be outside when it rains(thankfully I’m in 7th as of right now and that rule doesn’t exist) and since we were children, we loved running around in the rain especially since this takes place in Southern California and barely rains.
With rain comes wet grass so we weren’t allowed to play on it at recess and it was sunny by the time lunch rolled around. It was near the end of the year, and we were moving to the Jr. High the next year(this year), and we were bored of the bland and disgusting school food already.
I was toying with the idea of a “revolt” in my head and I had been for some time. Anyways, when we were finally allowed to go play on the blacktop, and only the blacktop; no grass, because the grass was supposedly “wet”. I was beyond angry because the grass was dry and the sun was shining, but the yard duties were all “THE GRASS IS WET NO WALKING KN THE GRASS” for whatever reason. Me and a couple of friends told the yard duties( and I may or may not have mocked them a little bit and yelled “THE GRASS ISN’T WET!” And stuff) but they merely said: go talk to the principal then.
So we went up to the office and spoke to them. They were simply acting as if “all adults are right”, which they AREN’T, and said that the Yard Duties were right and if the grass is wet then it’s wet.
You could imagine I was *beyond* pissed at this point.
We simply just made fun of them and we told everyone what happened and I stated that we should start revolting against them because this wasn’t the first time they did something this idiotic. Oh! Did I forget to mention that those lousy hypocrites were walking on the grass themselves?! Ohhohoho! This just enraged me to the point where I was about to actually slap one of them.
Anyways, we eventually won the right to run on the field. It was a little petty, but it was hilarious to see the angry looks on their faces. It was around a few minutes before lunch ended so we couldn’t exactly have full fun time so this kinda made me more mad.
So for the next few days, I told my friends about revolting and stupid stuff.
So later that week on like a Friday, I think it was, we gathered multiple groups and cliques and told them the plan. They then chose *me* as the leader! I was like: well I did come up with this idea.. and literally all we did was scream “revolt” at the top of our lungs and run around gathering more people.
Eventually the yard duties tried to calm us down or whatever and when lunch ended, the intercom was like: don’t do that again and whatnot.
    I was like: these wussies.
Everyone involved was smiling from all a three of the 6th grade classes. I could simply *feel* the laughter! We were all grinning from ear to ear.
When I told my parents about it, they simply laughed and thought it was funny

Don't know if this could be considered rebellious. But my brother's phone got confiscated by his teacher. He tracked the phone to see where it was and found out that the teacher had took it home (+ now he knew his address.) He confronted the teacher, asking him why he took his phone home. The teacher felt intimidated and gave the phone back straight away.

Whenever we had any "Murica Monday" or "Freedom Friday" type of thing at school, he would show up in a full Soviet Army Uniform, would have a Soviet Union flag draped around him like a cape, and would drag a big speaker with him playing Soviet music. A couple other kids did the same thing. I'm half Russian, but I never thought of doing something like that. There was another kid in the band who came to practice draped in an Ohio state flag.

In my school kids, aren't allowed to have anything that is distracting, I would always finish my classwork with a bunch of time to spare, and so I would pull out a book and read (it was usually a book that the librarian recommended for me to read and give him a good age range for readers) and I would quietly read, not bothering anyone, only talking when someone asked me a question and stuff. Whereas some girls in my class would literally make TikToks, with the volume up and distracting everyone.
I sat next to a semi-talkative guy who was always interested in the books I was reading, so he would ask questions that made you actually think about the answers and it was an overall good way to further our education (sometimes it was better than what our ELA teacher was giving us) and no one paid us any attention and we didn't distract anyone.
But we were still called out for being distractions even though we sat in the corner of the room and talked in hushed voices, but we still were called out, and multiple times we were moved to the front right by the teacher's desk, to prove the point, and every single time we were moved we did everything in our power (without being sent to the office or get detention) to distract the class. We would put on music and make TikToks and whatever else we could till the teacher let us sit where we normally did.
It happened quite a few times during school, at least once a month and every time we'd get a good laugh out of it, and then all would go back to normal... Now we're just waiting to be able to see each other again so we can talk again, sure we video chat but it's different...
To all those who made it this far, Thanks for listening to my rant XD

We had a terrible assistant principal that would pick on kids who had troubles with their grades. About half way through the year the kids in my grade (about 500 students) thought it was hilarious to throw food. It got to the point where lunch time entertainment was watching tables try to have food fights without the teachers noticing. This was obviously against the rules. Now this garbage assistant principal was livid. She started handing out detentions when people accidentally dropped food. One day, she got on the microphone and screamed “OBVIOUSLY YOU DONT WANT YOUR FOOD, SO TOMORROW I WILL BRING A BOX FOR YOU TO PUT YOUR UNWANTED FOOD IN!!!!!”. You bet your ass the entire grade bought all of the garbage vegetables from the cafeteria, and brought plenty of extra food from home. By the end of lunch, the box was completely full.

My most fond memory of rebellion is we had to redo an exam coz the teacher had lost the papers and anyone who is absent would be failed their entire class. We were all pissed. We all came to school but we didnot enter the class. Some teacher slapped me for being disruptive out of pure rage ( its quite common here) but one of our friends dad is a journalist.. He was there with his team on our request.... Our class didnot give the exam and if the teachers or administration tried to screw us over... My friends dad would make sure to have some crap on the school ready... It was great.... I was given detentions for the smallest things afterwards from then.. Ended up being third in the whole district when results for class 10 came out... I showed our principal the finger while walking out... Best memory ever

My high school always said that kids weren't aloud to wear Halloween costumes (although most people didn't listen/most teachers didn't enforce it). Now, I'm a goody two shoes and always go out of my way to follow the rules but I still wanted to dress up...so I decided to go to school wearing my Yukata (which is literally just a Japanese bath robe and the spring/summer version of a Kimono) over some normal clothes. If anyone were to try and get me in trouble I would just innocently point out the fact that it technically wasn't a costume, didn't violate dress code, and I had already worn it to school multiple times and they never had any problem with it. No one got on my case and my teachers actually seemed kind of amused.

Our canteen used to sell food for really expensive (translated it was roughly $6 for a small sandwich) and me and my friend found a way to rebel AND make money.
The school was in the UK so we had uniforms to wear, which consisted of shirt, tie, smart trousers, and a blazer. Me and my friend would cut huge gaps in the inside seams of our blazer and turn the whole left side of our blazer into a huge pocket. We even put a zip on it so we could make it seem like it was normal.
The plan went like this: one of us goes into the canteen and asks the dinner lady about certain foods and would pretend to be allergic and such whilst the other one would go in steal the most expensive foods in the canteen. Then we sell the foods for half the price round the side of the canteen and make some serious cash (serious for 14 year olds) we would change around the roles every week, and then some of our friends started to be distractions as well so no one got suspicious.
It was only when the school started losing money from the sales that they started taking action, first suspending 2 of the dinner ladies then holding the whole school at an assembly. Then we had to get more cautious and it ended when I got caught with 3 baguettes and 4 sandwiches in my blazer. I got a weeks isolation but still made over roughly $200 in 6 weeks from it, my friend making even more. I bought a real nice tonne of sweets and my friend bought a bike.

Because of the previous years students, 7th graders couldn’t use phones. 8th graders could (the same kids that got phones banned in 7th) and I had my phone on me for extreme reasons. (Never know when your stove is left on and you need to run home again) I got caught with it and was told to hand it in. I said “then why does [person] have theirs?” And she went around to the kid and asked, and they said the same thing with a different name. She did the entire class. She got frustrated and phones were brought back for a month or so til some asshole sent p*** to a middle schooler and vice versa.

My school is connected to a community centre(CC) and library. Students are not allowed to sit in the computer centre during lunch. One time I decide I'm done with their shit so I sit at a table in the CC, not long after the notoriously strict lunchroom supervisor comes looking and starts kicking students out of the CC when she told me I cannot be there I said okay and proceeded to continue working. She said that I have to go, and I asked where it stated this, with no knowledge she claimed it was a school and CC policy, so I asked her what policy can I see it. She was flabbergasted, as a last ditch effort she attempted to incite fear, as she said "would you like me to call a VP" I replied "call one if u want" she leaves after 10 minutes she returns alone and says the VPs are busy and I can meet them on my own time then proceeded to ask my name, to which I promptly replied no. I have not seen her mess with a student in the CC since.
TLDR: don't mess with people who have time
