I was the quiet kid that always had a book in my hand in the 90s. On the bus, at lunch, in the hallway, in class... every day of the week. In my adulthood i was too busy to read. And then i raised 3 kids. It's been a long time since I've read a book. I have never had an e reader. I'm now 44 years old and just ordered this kindle. I ordered this one because I'm not sure how I'll like an ereader as opposed to an actual book. And i wanted something basic i could easily pack around from home to work...or the dog park. I've been looking for reviews for this specific kindle. There aren't many. Most are reviewing the paper white or new colorsoft. Thank you for this review. I feel like i made the right decision to go with the basic model. I can't wait to get my new kindle!
My dad is 60 and he reads several books at a time and I gave him my old kindle for a week to see if he liked it. Now he bought himself a pocketbook, because he can just whip out a book whenever he feels like it and choose from the ones he's reading without having to choose one to carry with him. He likes it a lot and he was pretty sceptical before. I've had mine forever but I've never abandoned buying physical books.
@@mandykelley4883 I just got mine in this morning and it’s a great device, I think you’ll love it.
Having a Kindle helped me fall back into reading again. Its lightweight convenience along with my Kindle Unlimited subscription has me averaging a book a week. That's while being a full-time teacher and mom to littles!
Before my first Kindle, I wasn't sure if I'd like an e-reader. After getting used to it, I absolutely love it and read very few physical books now. Enjoy your new Kindle, and happy reading!
I hope you enjoy your Kindle and getting back into reading. I've found ereaders have helped me read more, and quicker it seems as well.
The one from 2022 was already 11th Gen. This one is just a makeover with new Color and brighter screen
2022 and 2024 models are both 11th gen according to amazon. the official names are:
Kindle (11th Generation) - 2022 Release
Kindle (11th Generation) - 2024 Release
Correct, the box is not stating this is the 12th gen.
However their marketing is confusing as they are claiming this is "all new"
And has undergone changes, physical changes, even, with the addition of different LEDs.
Typically, color changes don't offer any physical changes or things that require assembly lines to produce
It's usually just added cases, limited edition accessories, or the body color
This was one of the strangest Midway releases from the company
Right but are comparing this to 10th gen specs or 2022 11th?
@@jordananderson9491 both sheets were pulled from Amazon's website
@@goodereader but you copied the Generation wrong.
LOL at the recommended book "Hurt Me Daddy" @7:04
are you mocking his taste in reading material?
He seems to enjoy reading gay smut 😂 Each to their own haha
Between the “Hurt Me Daddy” and “For the Fans” recommendations, I can see we have similar tastes.
@@halifirienfor the fans is so good!!!
I just picked this up, trading in my 2021 Paperwhite. I know technically a downgrade, but I wanted a smaller, lighter Kindle that is easily pocketable and held one handed. Plus, I absolutely hate the rubberized material on my Paperwhite, it gets so gross over time, so I actually prefer the basic’s hard plastic body. I love the macha color, and so far I haven’t missed any of the perks of the Paperwhite. I also have the original Scribe for when I want a bigger screen (or a pen), and I’m glad to see that it will get the same software updates as the new Scribe (including support for the new pen). I love that Amazon still provides all these options for e-readers, including cheaper models so that you can love your books in whatever format you want.
@@1001nevermore but no warm light is a no go for night reading.
Tbh that's the biggest selling point of PW vs Basic kindle
@@internetuser4689 personally I have not missed having the warm light with the basic Kindle; I only barely ever turned on the warm light on my Paperwhite. But to each their own; definitely something to consider if you prefer the warm light.
I definitely argue it’s better than the paper white because of the sunken screen!! It just needs warm light 😢
it seems like amazon just reserves the warm light for the paperwhite compelling us to buy the pricier model😂
I wish there was a sunken screen version of paperwhite
Just curious - why is the sunken screen seemingly better?
yes! love the color, love everything. I would choose this over the paperwhite if it had warm light
Unfortunately the sunken screen gathers dust and made it not waterproof. But im planning on getting this one just because of its Mint color. I also have the previous Paperwhite anyway.
I was shocked that this device went from 129.99 CAD to 144.99 when next to nothing has changed. For an extra 15 dollars they could've added amber light for those of us who suffer from migraines 🤷♀️ plus this size makes more sense for kids small hands but it's not spill resistant and without the amber light it's exposing them to more blue light than necessary...
The increased prices across the ecosystem shocked me...
Im leaning towards a Kobo libra, colour. Like page turner buttons and access to library which kindle do neither. And cheaper than a Paperwhite.
Great review. You made a somewhat ordinary release very interesting.
this is very nice of you
thank you so much !
They improve the contrast and reduce the flickering thing.
So glad they kept those gorgeous cert stamps!
Cup of tea…matcha tea-got it! Took me a minute, but it’s early. Haha! Thanks for the review. Such a cutie little e-reader. Purse sized.
If it had the speed increase of the new Paperwhite 2024 then it might be worth upgrading, maybe 2026 will add the speed.
Great review. It looks as if the panel most whiter than any kindles in the history. It looks more paper white than the paper white.
If it was waterproof, I'd buy it immediately. The problem is that I do some of my reading while I'm waiting for a bus or train, and I'm in trouble if it suddenly rains.
Cant wait for you to review the colorsoft 😙
@@ElenaBabymind same! 💯
That color is super distracting. There’s a reason TVs, phones, readers, etc historically use black bezels.
Wish you could show a side by side comparison with basic 2022
I wish you'd always compare the size of kindle to old and other kindles in reviews
Wasting money if you buy this device,if you already have the 2022 version.
@@terriersforever23 what if you have a 7th gen one? I think mines a 7th gen, must've been bought around 2017-2018
@@MrJohnnytheone could be worth it for you in my opinion
brilliant review, you guys are fantastic.
Thank you for your review❤ It helped me a lot.
Are you guys reviewing solar color kindle? I want to see it side by side with kobo Clara, box go series color 7 and bc751 ereader
I'm a bit confused. On my super old kindle from 2011 I can load mobi files from my computer via usb connection. Is that still possible or no?
@@mandyschmidt7960 yup
What is amazons aversion to a white kindle?
Is with Carta 1300?
I think it’s too expensive for what it is but love the color!
green! 💚
Book #3 in your library at 4:04 😏.. need the title for reasons
Is it capacitive or infrared touchscreen? I miss the old IR touch screens so there would be literally zero layer between my eyes and the screen, but seems like sunken bezel is the closest we can get now
I want to buy my first ebook reader. I feel so lost and confused. I want the compactness of the basic model and warmth light of the paper white model.😭
Buy a scribe
I struggled quite a bit too. I really love the compactness of the kindle, and the lightness, and the colors. But the recessed screen, the lack of warmer color temperature, and the small 6" screen makes me want a Paperwhite model. I’ll think about it for a couple more hours and then I’ll order one.
@@vishwanathnb128 Buy the Paperwhite is my advice. It's certainty compact enough for me.
Kobo Clara BW. I was in the same boat as you, few months ago. I have severe OCD, I wanted the best screen and the warmth light. Kobo Clara BW is what you want, believe me. Best screen by far. Carta 1300 with recessed display. Has warmth light too. I have compared Paperwhite, basic, Libra 2, Clara BW in real life. NOTHING compares. The clarity, crispness, contrast, paperlike experience is unmatched.
get a kobo. covers all bases and is super affordable
This would be a winner if it had the warm light feature. The fact other basic models with other companies now have them and they won’t why bc they want you to get the others ? Dumb I’m happy with my pocketbook and boox. Unless they add warm light…I will never buy one of these. PW isn’t worth it….again the alternatives are better and better price…this is just another example of just bc of the kindle brand that they think we won’t notice and have to get the new shiny things 😂
I don’t think the black line is meant to be at the bottom of the screen like that. Is this a misaligned screen?
That happens sometimes. I got one like that, I factory reset it, it updated itself and that fixed the screen adjustment.
So nothing special. Happy to have my Glo HD (2015) and Libra 2 :)
Was the 10th USB-C too?
Yes, it was
I want to exchange my denim finish one for this matcha Color. When is it coming to India?
Esperando a ver los cambios en el nuevo scribe y el kindle color
being an Amazon product, not my cup of tea unfortunately.. the matcha look is nice touch on behalf of the JP team, but still its like putting lipstick on a pig
i just got newest kinlde and just found out audible with kindle is only supported by us, uk and germany....
A lot of the times you can just set your location to a different area and unlock certain features
@@goodereader thanks
My Kindle paperwhite 2021 is starting to lag and I have no idea why. I still have 5GB of storage available. I think I need to save up for the new paperwhites.
The recent software updates they released in July and August 2024 slowed down 2021 and 2022 devices but is optimized for their new 2024 models. If they didn't break your older stuff, no one would update.
welcome to the world of forced obsolescence
If your kindle library isn’t big, it may be easier for you to switch to another ecosystem
@@DikUln my Kindle library is very big. Also, you don't get other e-readers in South Africa. At least not that I have seen. You have to import them, and then they are double the price of a kindle. So not feasible for me.
I'm shopping for the next e-reader and agonizing over the decision. My current kindle's battery is all but useless so it's time. Was waiting for the new units to drop to make a decision. Colorwise i feel like anything but black is a distraction. Curious if anyone else feels that way. The bigger decision is that I like to read manga as well. I currently switch to a table for that but would love to be able to more commonly use just one device. So even though I'm heavy into the kindle system I feel like an android device would let me run shonen jump app which opens up a world of manga with it's incredible subscription. But I also want the best "white background" reading experience and kindle paperwhite's feel a step above. I'm so torn. Does anyone have a recommendation or argument for another device?
New colour end of review lol
this is the best kindle color we've ever seen.
thought the packaging is a deal breaker for me, can't really ship to internationally to my country and have it arrive without any screen damage.
since I always use Audible and I would like to read books on Prime Reading, this one should be the second one I could buy but it's too much expensive
I am unable to get audible books in 2022 model. How come..??
It's eleven or twelfth gen?? I'm confused 😅
@@CarlosDuty-m6y 11th
So a heated up Kindle 2022?
Eh, could be worse. Small improvements are improvements. And WPA3 is nice to have.
Still, I don't feel that this is really an upgrade. More like.. if you don't own one already. And then the COLOR models are coming too inevitable soo. A waiting game?
I already have the 11th Gen Paperwhite and the upgrade is so subtle so Im just gonna get this because of its color.😅
Can I put a sim card in this kindle?
No, no SIM card slot available.
How can I use it as I don't have wifi? Is it possible to use it without it?@@dirtygiraffes512
@@marybrigid83Connect to your hotspot from your phone to load books on to it.
Is it just me who wants 3.5 audio here?
The recommended books did not pass the vibe check😭
So much dust must accumulate around the screen and even inside. I wish I could try it for like 6 months to see how it goes but I don’t see how this recessed screen can prevent dust from getting all around the screen. Unless you wanna brush it gently every couple of days. Other than that, it looks really good. But I might get the Paperwhite just for the easy cleaning.
tbh the difference in clarity between recessed and flushed screen is real... and i'd prefere to dust once a day and have recessed in more premium models. Sad that if you want a premium product, you actually lose in clarity.
@@claudio4173Yes I’ve heard about the recessed screen being slightly crispier than the flush screen from the Paperwhite. But as it’ll be my very first ereader I don’t think it’ll matter to me. But you’re right. The more expensive model you get, the less crispier and the more reflective screen (even if very slightly) you get.
@@claudio4173 a significant difference to be honest. Flushed screen looks fuzzier, has lesser contrast, reading experience feels more akin to a tablet than paper.
جميل جداً 👍🏻❤
this is the 12th gen just so you know
@@Just_maggs_reads this is not the 12th jen. It clearly says on the box, website, and all materials, 11th jen. We showed it several times in the unboxing and review
Nope. It's not.
Sounds good
