yes but i think that's normal, RUclips isn't something most parents are into because its so new so i think that's fine, the problem is that they see youtubers through a lens on Facebook and immediately assume every lie and everything taken out of context is true, and don't actually look into them and get a bad opinion of them even if they don't know them
I'm a mom of kiddos from 6-13 and we watch Jack together. I use curse words like a damn sailer lol There's a few channels I wouldn't allow them to watch but Jack isn't one of them.
"I'm not a surrogate parent for your children" - Sean. Thank you! Exactly, his content is entertainment not educational. If you want more educational content or a specific kind of content for your children then just encourage other channels.
I have a feeling some parents just leave their kids alone with a tablet or something, in the same way they’d put them in front of a TV. I’m not a fan of either, but it feels a bit like RUclips Kids is literally designed around that...
Jack, I'm a kid who is 14 years old and I've had to deal with severe anxiety and mental and physical issues, watching your videos has been able to make me feel better and just slightly more positive with each message, which means a lot to me. I'm still going through probably the worst time in my life, and I just want to thank you for being there for me even when you don't know it, keep on strong man, your seriously a great person, who's sense of humor is S tier, have a good day man
Hey, you aren't alone man. I'm pretty much in the same boat and seeing someone else going through the same stuff is kinda comforting (to me at least). You're doing great, and I wish you the best.
I don’t know what you’re going through but I’m sorry it’s a hard time in life for you right now. Hope you come out the other side of it happy and healthy and that one day all will be well ❤️ - A 26 year old who used to be in a much worse place. It doesn’t get easier, but it does get better.
I'm 26 now, and I had really rough teenage years with anxiety and depression and overall just feeling very angry. I can absolutely say, it does get better. You learn so much about yourself and about how to cope and manage your mental health, and although it may not completely go away, you lean to have an emotional intelligence a lot of people don't have, and an understanding of so many feelings and how to manage them. Try to understand and accept your mental health and acknowledge that it's something you WILL learn to manage, allow you to be a more empathetic person and that you aren't alone. Stay strong, learn as much as you can about yourself and what you like. At your age that's the most important thing. :)
Same here. I have cancer and I'm not allowed outside, I'm not allowed to see anyone except the people who live with me. They have to wear masks everywhere because of me. They spend so much on gas to take me to the hospital. All their free time is gone because of me. I feel awful about it all. Both because of the chemo and needles AND the fact that I'm being a burden to them. They never say it, but I know it's true. But Jack has helped ne forget about it all. Even if just for a few moments
I think it's funny how Jack's like, "I'm not here to be a surrogate parent to your children" yet he and some other stuff raised me more than my own dad did.
So the website seems to have three review sections: kids, parents, and “expert.” The 1 star comes from the last one, which was from 2017 and is definitely written by someone who doesn’t partake in gaming media very often, let alone RUclipsrs. This is like when Rotten Tomatoes critics hate a movie that the audience loves
The experts are almost always at odds with the audience. FFS look at cuties or the Dave Chapelle special and the Amy Schumer special. Illustrates my point perfectly.
At least on rotten tomatoes, the experts are actually an expert in that stuff, its just that they are sometimes too pretentious. what makes you an expert in youtube content anyway?
The jacksepticeye community is one of the most wholesome and uplifting communities I’ve ever seen, and is lead by one of the funniest, charitable, wholesome, RUclipsrs on the platform. How this man got a 1 star rating is beyond me.
As I said in my comment, he swears and makes sex jokes. It's literally taking a joke as a serious remark. I understand maybe a 2 or 3 star, but you can learn a lot from Jack still, which is why he deserves a 3 star at LEAST.
So shitty that they literally put "no positive messages", what the fuck. Thank you so much for everything you've done regarding speaking up about LGBTQ+ rights, mental health, etc., it's so important to me and many others and makes us feel really welcomed and safe here. THAT's what this channel is really about.
@@wildhunter939 Maybe the parents do support LGBT, and more. But maybe they think Jack is homophobic/racist/transphobic. And they don’t like that For example, my parents do not like Jack because they think he’s homophobic, and they’re great supporters of the LGBTQ
@@EnthralledShroom Common Sense Media is a load of shit, just bullshit reviews by helicopter parents and their equally brainless representatives the site owners, if you want to use it as a source for your kids, READ THE KID'S REVIEWS!!! They're far more sensible then any of the moral crusaders'. Rant over my point is don't get upset by what these clowns think.
Most parents only overhear what their children are watching and, if they hear something that offends them, then watch small snippets of 2 or 3 other videos and make snap judgements. I'm a parent of four and have been a long-time subscriber. My two youngest children and I came to your show in Dallas. I have no problem with my children watching your channel. You have had fantastic, uplifting messages and have always tried to keep things truthful and real. Thank you for being who you are. Just a wonderful human.
"I'm not here to be a surrogate parent for your children" THANK YOU!!! Content creators are here to provide entertainment in whatever form is easily created by them and best consumed by audiences. Parents are responsible for teaching and reinforcing the appropriate messages, worldviews, themes, and ideas that they want their children to take from the content THEY CURATE for their children and, if a particular creator's content either does not align with or runs contrary to those goals, then it is a parent's responsibility not only to monitor children's viewing habits, but to explain in a rational way why children should not appreciate the messages put forth. If we all followed this, then no one would ever need to be worried about creators "sending the wrong messages" or "indoctrinating children" because we'd all be pointing ourselves and our children to content that reinforces what we truly believe to be positive messages. The only argument that is relevant here is that content platforms need to stop selectively censoring messages that THEY disagree with and put the job of monitoring and curating content back in the hands of viewers and parents.
jack, the "no positive messages" thing is just like: when you watch anime, and its the most wholesome thing ever, and your parents walk in on the ONE beach episode, and they just think its pron
@@Chimyjoe1 ooh, yeah... Sailor Moon is one of the greatest animes promoting girl power, self love, true friendship, body positivity, etc., but there are a handful of moments that can be hard to explain when taken out of context. Been there, done that.
"I'm not here to be a surrogate parent to your children." -Jacksepticeye And yet this man raised a lot of us, gave us great laughs, great moments, and some heartfelt talks. Parent? Maybe not. But he's 100% the Fun Uncle.
I'd have to agree wholly. I watched him a lot in my childhood, and it was always (and still is) very enjoyable to watch any of his videos. Unfortunately there tends to be a lot of misconceptions with everything online.
Even before this started it was obvious what kind of site we were dealing with. It was immediately confirmed. Every single one of their ratings were wildly off.
As a parent, my kid has been watching you almost as long as I have. Swearing is no big deal to me as long as it's not aimed at anyone. It's just a bunch of words everyone collectively decided to be butt hurt about. You are such an amazing person and you content makes so many people happy. You bring light to so many lives and are a genuine gift to humanity.
Listening to the elementary kids outside, I think the aiming thing is quite important. Jack says it as an expression of shock and surprise, when I have heard kids call each other names so personally vile that I won't even say them today.
Yeah true, I don’t get how swearing developed the huge stigma around it. It just really doesn’t seem like that big a deal. I mean, if I were a parent, it’s not like I’d be swearing around my kid and teaching them it’s alright to swear anytime, I guess you just gotta read the room, but I do believe it’s not a huge deal. Jack’s pretty chill and a pretty decent influence no matter the age of whoever’s watching imo
This is just wow..... I'm a 41 year old mother of a 13 year old boy and I HIGHLY encourage him to watch your channel because of how positive you are.... you are quite simply an amazing person and if my son grows up to be halfway anything like you with his personality, I'll be a damn proud mum!! (And as a Scottish person, he won't hear anything from you he hasn't heard from me lol) 5 out of 5, would recommend.
I've been watching this channel consistently for about 8 years now - I'm 21 now. It was lovely to grow up with you, Sean. You've been there for many critical moments in my life. Even now, as I'm struggling pretty heavily, I know I can always switch on your videos and get some laughs in. I really appreciate how inclusive you are & how you've openly put effort into your own growth as a person. You've fostered a great community & one I've always felt safe in. Thanks, man.
I like Jack, but he misunderstood the site. The majority of parental reviews are high, but the moderators of the site gave him a low review. The moderators are infamous for being genuinely negative and stupid.
"I'm not here to be a surrogate parent for your children. That is your job as a parent." FINALLY someone said it👏👏👏 Instead of canceling people for not being child- friendly and setting a "bad example" MONITOR WHAT YOUR KIDS WATCH. That is YOUR job as a parent. He doesn't constantly need to be PG for your kids when he is a grown ass man.
"All the games kids play are violent" Why you buy it for them? "All the clothes they wear are risque" Why you buy it for them? "All the shows are bad for them" Who's letting them watch? "All the music is explicit" Who's letting them listen?
EXACTLY. Parents are trying to cancel horror movies and they're not appropriate for their kids either. It's the same concept that the parents are responsible to what their kids are exposed to. Somehow this is acceptable with old media but not with RUclips and social media?
For that "positive message" thing, I can attest that your videos and your content has made me rethink some of the nasty things in my brain, and reshaped those thoughts to be healthy again, you put out ideas of good, and it's really just up to the viewer to decide whether they will accept those ideas or not. This man, Jacksepticeye, is genuinely one of the only RUclipsrs left, who actually shares his good will, a great instance of this is one of the videos he did donating to smaller streamers, he started it by saying (basically, not exact wording) "I don't feel very happy today, so I'm going to make other people happy and donate to them". If that is not one of the most pure and kind things to do, then this world is fucked and I don't want to exist with the people who can't see that, JUST because he says "bad words". The message is the importance, but those people just see a loud man saying fuck, like? Okay? I've seen hundreds of people saying in his comments that watching his videos helped them through really hard times, I can also attest to this, life gets hard, mental health is difficult to figure out, but having someone spreading a message about "positive mental attitude" is so much more impactful than someone saying curse words. I don't know who shoved a stick in whoever wrote that reviews butt, but I hope they can get it removed and learn to enjoy life again.
5:12 YES! This is exactly it! So many parents are like: "oh this violent it shouldn't exist" rather than: "this seems to violent for my kid, I'm gonna keep them from watching it."
I've literally grown up with Sean. I started watching when I was 13, and I'm now 19 and in college and I work as a musician. It's been one of the most rewarding experiences to grow and change with him. He influenced my childhood for the better and kept me going through times of poor mental health. Sean is genuinely one of the most sincere content creators I know of, and if folks can't see that, it's their loss.
Jack, don't let the swearing thing get to you. I'm a 36 year old mom of 3 girls all under 15. I've watched you for years and now they do too. You are an amazing entertainer with a huge heart and I would much rather my children see your positive influence on the world accompanied with a million f bombs than for them to watch a "family friendly" vlog channel where they sell their souls for views on a daily basis. I can literally feel my brain cells melting 20 seconds into a "______ Family" video, and there are so many of them out there . Good on you for staying who you are. P. S my family says I could make a sailor blush, so maybe my opinion is biased a little. Much luv and Happy Holidays!
Same here, 39 year old mom of twin boys. We've been watch Sean for years (they found him and I monitor what they watch, loved him so much I started watching him too) and I am well aware I curse more than he does, lol.
I’m a forty-seven year old woman, with no kids, who’s sick and tired of far less understanding people (unlike yourself) complaining about adult content from adult creators when RUclips Kids exists! I honestly think this rating site pissed me off more than it did Seán! I found his Channel in 2017, but have made a valiant attempt to catch up on as many previous videos/ series as I can. And, at no time whatsoever, did Seán *EVER* pander to children. But it’s like he already said: Most of these negative reviews stem from people who have “an obscured line of sight.” One insignificant thing like swearing- Seán was twenty-two when he started doing RUclips; that’s considered an adult age in *EVERY* part of the World- and the people who take issue with that never bother to see all the good that Seán, and others like him, have done. That quote, by the way, is from a one-off game Seán played in 2017 called Far From Noise: An extremely powerful and emotional game during which the all-too-relatable struggles of the protagonist made Seán cry! I’m willing to bet that none of these parents saw that video… or Presentable Liberty… or That Dragon, Cancer… A Normal Lost Phone… You Left Me… Missed Messages… The list goes on and on! Wow! This *REALLY* pissed me off! I think I need to go meditate. Before I keep going down this rabbit hole, let me just say thank you for your supportive message. It’s nice to see some parents out there who acknowledge that it’s not a content creator’s job to raise their children.
Im an 18 year old with siblings to watch and take care of while my mother is busy. After seeing some of the stuff suggested to kids on youtube compared to Jacksepticeye's content. I feel likeJack is doing great. Yeah ofcourse he swears a lot but thats just what makes him, him. IMO after being in school I now realize its other kids at school who teach kids things thatre bad. Those kids learn from their own parents and spread it to other kids anyways so whats alittle fuck or shit here and there gonna do compared to your kid laughing about a turd hitting a fan while The N-Word is blasted full volume
Hey Jack, just wanted to mention how touched I am that you referenced a younger time in your life where you were less then ok with the LGBTQ+ community. So many others will claim to have always been an ally but we’ve all been to middle school and know that isn’t true. People change and people learn and people grow, I think personally think you are a shinning example of a good person. Thank you and keep it up.
Jack: I’m not that genuine Also Jack: proceeds to confide in us about how the concept of PMA was a sort of coping mechanism for the depression he was struggling with at the time
I figured it out: The only people that don’t like his content probably only are listening to him in the background and cuss words tend to stick out when you’re not paying attention to what is going on. The parents are not watching it with them.
I noticed the two things that stick out when listening to youtube in the BG: Swearing, and replacements for swearing. Like I hear all the swears but whenever people cut it out or replace it, even if it barely sounds edited / covered it sticks out because it hits your ear wrong
Anyone who watches Jack knows how genuine and sweet and loving he is, regardless of the language he uses. Honestly I just wanna grab a pint with him, like he just is so fun and I would love to just talk about life with him. Jack is just amazing as a person and he deserves 5 stars.
I think it's funny because I've left many messages on this channel about how I adore your sincerity and intelligence Sean. And I remember how you have said many MANY times, "we're all 18 here" and "there are no kids allowed". Like you made it VERY clear this is an adult channel, while still being kind and wholesome
For the record, my Mama likes you! Her exact words: "He's a nice boy, I like him!" She even subbed to you after my son started her watching them. So there you are. Jacksepticeye: approved by Grannies!
the thing i like the most about jack is that besides all the 'swearing' this website seems to say he does, (which isn't nearly as bad as some of the reviews made it out to be), he always does his best to be real with his audience, and gives very valuable advice that is extremely helpful. i've been going through some problems recently with discovering myself and it's been pretty hard to deal with, but a lot of the advice that he gives about mental health and accepting yourself has been helping me get through this and i'm really grateful that somebody like him exists. he does joke around a lot and curses here and there but that's not all there is to him, he's actually very sweet, caring and very genuine. he has helped a lot of people get through some of their own problems and i hope he becomes more known for that
Honestly, I've been watching Jack since I was like 8 or 9 and never has his swearing had a bad impact on me (his PMA has had a good impact on me though), my parents swear just as much as he does but I only ever started swearing when I wanted to lmao. Also yeah, the only time I ever swear is for comedy purposes or just as a filler word, I actually swear way less when I'm angry or upset
“I’m not here to be a surrogate parent to your child” is what every single Caretaker, teacher, influencer, singer, actor/actress etc. TRULY wants to relay to this generation of parents. The ones with this closed-mindset are just so… Lackluster in accountability for their kids.
I feel like these parents have a very twisted sense of what's good or bad. Jack definitely is one of the kindest RUclipsrs I have ever seen on this platform.
"I'm not here to be a surrogate parent so watch your kids. If you don't like my content don't let them watch it I support that." That's the most honest thing a RUclipsrs ever said.
@@wackykittykat99 they said " 'I'M NOT HERE TO BE A SURROGATE PARENT SO WATCH YOUR KIDS. IF YOU DONT LIKE MY CONTENT DONT LET THEM WATCH IT I SUPPORT THAT.'" THATS THE MOST HONEST THING A RUclipsRS EVER SAID.
Jack's "swearing problem" is GROSSLY overstated. I have seen people with with much bluer language and the fact of the matter is most of us in that age group TALK LIKE THIS IRL. The Game Grumps curse much worse in both quantity and the "quality" ( in the sense of just how vulgar the crap Arin says) and I say this as someone who watches the Grumps almost every day since 2014.
Swearing is also very very common amongst Irish people. It is part of our everyday language between each other. We all grew up with it so we are not phased by people swearing and we forget it's not as common in other parts of the world.
As a parent, I was introduced to JackSepticEye videos through my children. Now my children are mostly adults ( youngest is the only one under 18) and I have been subscribed since 2016 and still watch his content. He has a very “what you see is what you get” attitude and is very open and honest in all facets of life. I had no problems letting my kids watch any of his content when they were younger, except for when I had migraines and they would just use their headphones. He’s a great inspiration when it comes to opening up communication with teens and young adults about their mental health. There’s more to him than just the cursing and violent video games that some of the negative reviewers want to focus on. Fun story: when my youngest found out we had Irish ancestors, his first reaction was “you mean I’m just like Jack?”. That made him want to be a RUclipsr too but his attention span wouldn’t let him (ADHD And Asperger’s).
This channel is like a beacon of shining positivity in an otherwise bleak sea, It would be nice if people could look past the minor things and actually see the real take away that people gain from watching someone be as vibrant and full of joy as Sean is in his videos, Always pleasant to watch new videos as they come out.

I've been watching Jack for about 7 years, I'm 20 now, and I genuinly feel like I wouldv'e grown up to be a prick if it weren't for him. As a child that didn't have any friends and didn't go out much it was nice to tune in to a mostly positive community. Cursing was not new in my household (even though I wasn't allowed to curse) because I'm Jamaican and we curse as much as the Irish if not more . Even so, Jack has been and still is a joy to watch and grow with throughout the years.
Here's a review: You were the first content creator on RUclips that I started watching regularly back in 2014. At that time in my life I was stuck in an abusive relationship and while walking around on eggshells constantly lost myself along the way. You brought some positivity and good vibes back into my life at a time where I needed it most. Now granted other things played into it, but you being there for me at the right place at the right time back then was a big part of why I had the strength to get out of that situation. You bring a lot of light into the world by being a very genuine and caring person. I only wish you well and I'm so incredibly grateful to you for the influence you've had on my life. 🌸
"I'm not here to be a surrogate parent for your children." Said it right Sean. Channel may not be all that "kid friendly" but it's really not your fault at all if kids watch it.
I wish parents would finally understand like the internet doesn't babysit ur kid. It's entertainment just like movies, you as a parent need to review it
Yeah, it’s really fking entitled to expect people on the internet to modify their content to suit your children, just because you have children that go on the internet.
I think it shows how many teenage/adult people love this channel. With the bad reviews rather coming from children that got taught "swearing = bad" and only being able to think of that it is actually kind of wholesome that many children care about their behavior. I originally had the impression that this mentality is not too much existant nowadays. For me it was really surprising to see adults being more interested into these videos but I guess it kind of makes sense. Thank you for changing our life!
Seán is a great human being. How did the Paul brothers have higher reviews? If parents are putting them on a higher pedestal than Jack, I’m concerned… Jack has always promoted positivity. You’ve lifted me up on my bad days Seán. Your community loves you Seán. We love your honesty, we love your charity, we love your sense of humor, we love your inclusivity. There are so many things that you do right Seán. Be proud of what you’ve accomplished. We are all excited to see what the future holds for you.
Didn't one of them do drugs (not sure about this one I heard someone say it but it might be wrong) and the other go to a famous suicide forest while live and find a body?
@@Maxine_5674 As far as the one about the suicide forest then yes that did actually happen (he also filmed the body and showed it). But for the one about drugs idk.
I don't even know Common Sense Media review RUclipsrs. I kinda like the idea of it, but the site can be a bit conventional. On one hand, it acknowledges queer and women characters on Paranorman and others (I think it said that Isle of Dogs is a bit white savior iffy), but sometimes it bloody misses the point (it gave Daria the series a bad score for making teens antisocial or whatever)
I love how people automatically assume every bit of content on sites like this must automatically be for children. You're right about some parents not monitoring what their kids watch. You literally are the person who got me into watching YT regularly and influenced my gaming hugely! If it wasn't for you I'd never have played Subnautica or Oxenfree or half a dozen others. And as a gay guy I have never found anything you've said offensive. You're definitely cringeworthy sometimes, but not offensive! I can see why some find you annoying, but there are other streamers who I know you are friends with who I can't watch for the same reason. It's all about personal taste. And you Mr Jacksepticeye are, quite frankly, amazing. Five stars from this alleged adult
I'm also part of the LGBTQ+ community and I 100% agree he's never said anything I've found offensive, I mean hell I've been watching him since before I even *knew* I was LGBTQ+. Also side note, why on earth does youtube kids exist, from this it just seems like parents don't even use it hahah
@@Baer99Z well they made it a few years back to allow parents to decide what kids watch, obviously it didn't go well since you can watch anything from youtube kids on youtube lmao
I can’t leave a review on that site, so I’ll leave it here: Jacksepticeye is a great channel. He swears (your basic curses, not that bad) so parents may want to keep their young kids away. However, Seán has a ton of positive messages to pass on to teens and anyone trying to find their way life. I personally watch him, as does my 12-year-old nephew, and we both love the channel. Top notch entertainment from a really nice guy!
My boyfriend passed away a week ago leaving me completely devastated..I've been regularly wearing my red PMA hoodie again though I've been having difficulty coping, it's nice to have Jack to tune into.. Jack, in the time that you've been on RUclips, you've helped me through 2 rough breakups with guys who had only malicious intent with me. Now you're helping me through this. I've never seen you as anything other than the kind hearted person you appear to be. I think the cursing is an issue in other countries such as my own, the United States.. People seem far more sensitive here regarding words, especially around children imo. 🤷♀️ Thanks for being here gamer.
I’m a 43 year old mother and I have been watching Sean for years now. I also let my 8 year old son watch him. I think he is a wonderful person with a good heart. It makes me sad to see people say anything negative about him.
I died laughing when he said, "I'm not here to be a surrogate parent." Your kids are going to grow up one day and exposed to all this at one point. Growing up is inevitable.
I only started watching this channel this year, but I've already gotten so many laughs and positive vibes from it. Your videos have inspired me so much Sean, and your kind aura is infectious. Keep being you!
Well welcome to this place of insanity, grab a coffee or energy drink or whatever you fancy really cuz idk whats in your fridge. And enjoy~ we're all here for a good laugh
Sean: "I'm not here to be a surrogate parent to your children!" Me: *fucking standing ovation "well said sunshine, more parents need to understand where you are coming from here!"
All of this!!!!! I clapped and nodded with him as he said it. I'm a mother of two and I watch what my kids are watching all the time. If I don't like it, I turn it off. Simple. I spend time with my kids too. Also, kids pick up things from thier peers at school or even other family members. Kids are sponges that soak up things around them. I hate lazy parenting and finger pointing some of these people do.
I’m a mom and tbh I can’t imagine *ever* being the type of parent who thinks Seán would be a bad influence on my children. I’d be absolutely thrilled for my kids to be exposed to/influenced by his empathy, acceptance & compassion for others, his positivity & morals, and his outlook on life. It’s all the same things I try to embody and project.. Plus he’s just super fun to watch, and being entertained by a really good person is a win-win for everyone.
My son came across you when he was around 5 on RUclips back when you were in the cabin. We had a long discussion about not repeating the language he would hear and to this day he swears far less than his peers (he's now 12). Even after 7 or 8 years I'm still here at least once a week and so is my wife. You are a genuinely nice person and a great entertainer, just ignore the American Puritans and their demonizing of swearing. Canada and the rest of the world are grown up enough to handle you, lol.
As a mexican, swearing is a part of everyday language and that's beautiful, the amount of emphasis and flavor you can add to communicating with others is just amazing
I've been watching Sean for almost 7 years and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon, he's like a best friend who always cheers me up on bad days. Keep doing what you're doing, man.
Exactly, in one of his really old videos I think it was “The static speaks my name” he said “Whatever you are going through is temporary, but suicide is permanent” and it has always stuck by me. Such an amazing quote
Growing up in a home where dang near everything was censored, I took a different approach with my own child. I get that some parents don't want their kids to hear cursing, oh the humanity of such foulness for their angel's ears, but they need to realize it's their responsibility to monitor their little crotch demons and not anyone else. I have an 18 year old son who grew up watching you, and months ago introduced me to you and Felix's channels, and I believe you're the positive role model kids need nowadays. I absolutely love watching you and I'm forty...something...! All they can do is dig and dig for something bad to say and absolutely ignore the good you've done.
I have a 3 & 5 year old, so they are a little young for this content, but I hope they find role models like this when they start choosing their own content. I’d rather have my kids watch something positive, inclusive, and genuine then worry about the swear count in a video!
I'm 21 years old and about to have a kid. I would honestly love for my kid to watch Jack than any other youtuber. He's funny and you can obviously tell when he's joking. Jack, keep doing what you're doing and i wont stop watching your videos!
I’ve been watching the channel for almost 10 years now, since I was 7. Always loved the channel, my dad and I watch your channel and both love it the same. We are Christians but never have a problem with any video shawn posts. I’m so sorry these reviews paint you so poorly. Always a role model to me! Thank you, Jack.
"Your kid probably already knows what those words mean" or.. orr.. and hear me out on this one.. they don't but they use them anyways. Which isn't me saying it's bad or anything, it's just that kids say stuff sometimes and sometimes it's bad stuff
Yeah! I was reading a newspaper or something when I was 4 (I don't remember why) and I saw the n word. As someone who had never seen the word before, I said it aloud to ask what it meant my brother (who, btw, is black) told me it was a bad word and I never used it since. I remember learning that it was a racial slur and I was like "oh s***"
@@Hexer404 exactly :p when I have kids I plan to tell them all about slurs and other bad words to teach them about when it is and isn't appropriate to use them and why and why you shouldn'tsay slurs at all. It's not like they're not gonna find out about it anyways.. not in THIS economy! /j
Kids pick up their environments words mainly. My baby brother who’s five has said fuck a few times. My mom, who swears like a sailor when she has road rage, points blame at me but I learned these words from her and so has he. Parents find it easier to blame everything else other than themselves because no parents wants to think hey I’m not that great of a parent. Especially those that use these websites.
I remember growing up at really young ages some words like bitch ect I don't think I knew the meaning of. But, most of them even at that age were common sense, if your old enough to somewhat wrap your mind around sex you already understand atleast half of the most common swear words. I think I learned them more from peers growing up, but the early 2000's were a different time almost, most of the kids I knew were irl, many kids wouldn't get phones till like 6th grade then and atleast my parents somewhat understood the media kids would consume because most of it was on the TV with a strict time limit. When I went to a friend's house to play MW3, his parents knew we were playing mw3 and would legit kick us out on nice days to do other shit . Nowadays I don't think parents don't know what the flying fuck there kids can find online. You can't child proof the internet but what you can do is when that kid is bored and driving you insane, don't thrust a tablet at them and use that as a distraction. ( my mom's reaction to the words I'm bored would follow with a list of potential chores that shut that shit down real fast.). It's the shittiest style of parenting I've ever seen. At very young ages it's asking for mental and social problems along with addiction and from what I've seen on the sidelines, actual kid's content is the most cancerous neurodegeneritive shit I've ever seen. I'd shoot myself before playing cocomelon for some kid.
@@darianbarber3763 my niece loves cocomelon and whenever I spend time with her I try to get her to watch ANYTHING else. my brother got her into Dragon ball abridged which is hilarious because she's 3
as a 17 year old boy who has been watching jack since like 2014-2015 i truly truly appreciate all of his work. he gave me lots of laughs back then (still does now though for very different reasons). he gave me good memories as a kid and bonding time with my brother over him. now he provides a lot of emotional support in his own way. especially through all of the great messages he gives off. love you jack ❤️
I found Jack when I was at one of the lowest points in my life. Him and his videos were a huge part of what kept me from ending it all, as cliche as it sounds. I was terrified of my mom finding out I was watching him because of the swearing and adult jokes, but thankfully my mom actually took the time to watch his content with me, and she understood why his content helped (and still helps) me so much. I'm so grateful that she wasn't like these Karens on the review site. Jack, if you're somehow reading this, don't let these negative reviews get to you. I'm almost completely sure that these people have never taken the time to watch a single one of your videos and learn what kind of person you actually are. Don't change yourself just because of a few bitter idiots with nothing better to do than spread mindless hate online
@@ttmsp8720 Aw, that's sweet, thank you ^-^ honestly I don't actually expect Jack to see my comment, but other people were sharing their stories so I figured I'd share mine too
Bruh those one stars, sean litterally has the most openminded and accepting community on youtube and im 100% sure that no other community can compare and thats because of him. Seans positivity attracted other amazing people to form this community
The comment of “pay attention to what you kids are watching!” Just hits me because I feel that way about so many parents!! My kids and I love watching you! My kids are younger and they know not to repeat swears and they also don’t get to watch all the time or games that might be too scary for them. It’s not that difficult! That being said my kids and I for sure give you a 5 star rating because you are a good person with good messages and you make us laugh! 😊
& this is a perfect example of a good parent. Letting their children watch what makes them happy & laugh but is there to monitor it & even enjoys it with their kids themselves. Thank you for being a decent parent. :]
Same here! I started watching Sean a bit over 5 years ago and immediately fell in love with the positivity and content. Watching his videos and streams soon became a family activity and Thankmas is now an official holiday in our house. My children are now 10 and 8 and have been watching for 5 years along with me. They laugh at the jokes, (many of them go over their heads, as they should), they giggle at the swear words (which they know not to repeat), and just have an amazing time overall.
I love how as an Irish person. I dont even realise Sean swears alot. Swearing is so casually used in daily conversations by Irish people. We grow up with it. And I think we all turned out fine. Just saying.
As an American, I can't remember the last time Sean swore. Maybe some videos in like... 2015. I know he probably does, but I hear so much worse from my family members that I don't even notice it at this point. 💀
It's definitely an age and culture thing. The older generations and people from particular countries seem to view swearing as more severe than others. Growing up in England, my parents didn't like me swearing until I was a teenager but they didn't go out of their way to avoid media that contained "bad words". They just gently explained that I shouldn't copy everything I hear and some things are rude and offensive
Those reviews reeeally surprised me because I never thought that Seàn swears too much. And even more importantly- when he does swear, it's never aimed at another person or offensive. Just your regular "oh fuck" is completely normal and fine. There are a ton of youtubers who think it's funny to constantly crack racist/sexist/homophobic jokes and offend one another and think it's okay because "I have a friend who is black so I cannot be racist and it's all good" and THAT is very uncomfortable and wrong IMO. Jack NEVER does that and what is more, he goes out of his way to express his support for communities like the LGBTQ+ Community and for the black lives matter movement and so on. Not to mention all the charity work. Also, Jack is fucking funny and overall a very nice guy. 10/10 would recommend :)
It's a sort of common sense thing my mom grew me up on when I got older. Even though she doesn't swear almost ever, it was only late highschool she ever would. The common sense rule was to not direct it at someone and using it more as an expression rather then a label. It might have also helped that my older brother played L.O.L. You kinda get use to hearing actual rage and it always made me uncomfortable even in another room.
I can't wrap my head around people not liking this man. I've been watching him since he first started and grew up watching him. Nothing he says or does is really an issue, he's made amends for anything that he's done. Keep doing what you're doing, you're one of the living legends in this hellscape of a planet
Because parents don't get the basic fact that it's their job to educate their kids about how swearing is viewed and to avoid using it. Instead they insist everyone else never swears so they never need to have that conversation and as soon as that kid is older they inevitably swear like a sailor behind their backs
I've used Common Sense media in my job, but this is pretty ridiculous. When working as a children's librarian, parents will ask you if you recommend media all the time and you can't see/review all of it, so this site was helpful for knowing what content they might have a problem with (like Goonies, for example... why did we all think this was super kid friendly? lol). Then you can let them know there might be some "adult" things, but at the end we always told them each parent gets to decide what they feel comfortable with and that they should enjoy content with them so they can start discussions if necessary. But you are a person!? it feels really shady to rate people who are playing as themselves, as if they can be defined down to a number. How would you feel, Kelly? Shall we rate your parenting skills while we're at it? Honestly, it seems what they find the most offensive is the actual video games you're playing, in which case, maybe just monitor what games your kid is playing?
The founder of this website is a guy named James Steyer. I just read an 2010 article in the Los Angelos Times about him. Definitely a creepy pearl-clutcher who has many degrees but seems to have overlooked the thousands of academic articles that prove that violent video games don't create violent children.
I know you probably won’t read this but I wanted to let you know that I’ve been watching jacks vids scince 2015 and it’s been the best few years getting to com home after a long day school and binge watch some of the wacky games that jack played, I remember the skate videos and the cap that one day just disappeared, I remember him telling us about his cabin, I remember when jack made feel really excited to watch his videos as they were the best part of my day, if was tired or upset about something at school I would watch jacks videos and I would always end them with a smile, I just want to say thank you Sean for you commitment to this platform and staying positive as I’m sure you’ve affected so many lives in a positive way. Your a positive and genuine RUclipsr ( and you didn’t drop off like sundee did ) so I and everyone else would like to say thank you.
7:30 honestly needed to hear this. Been doing a lot of self reflecting myself after my father passing 2 weeks ago. Hearing that Sean knows this same crap. And I may be high as balls right now but it is honestly relieving in a way. WE LOVE YOU SEAN!
I started watching Sean when I was about 12, and I'm 19 now. His videos have been there to support me through the most formative years of my life, and I truly believe I wouldn't be the person I am today without him. God knows my narcissistic mother didn't teach me kindness.
This just shows how out of touch some parents can be. My son is 14 and he has be watching Seán since he was about 8. I've never had a problem with his content because I taught my son that RUclips is for entertainment and just because an adult swears, doesn't mean it's OK for a child to do so. Even my 6 year old daughter will watch a jacksepticeye video every now and then. As a matter of fact, I'm a subscriber and I think I watch his videos more than my kids! I love him! He's funny, engaging, kind and genuine! He keeps me company during the day when the kids are at school and I'm doing whatever around the house. And whenever I need a good laugh, you can find me watching a jacksepticeye video or game grumps. They never fail to make me laugh! I hope Seán continues to grow and make content for as long as it makes him happy to do so!
As someone who's 19 years old and have been watching since about 13-14 I can honestly say that these reviews are ridiculous He's one of the most wholesome and hilarious youtubers ever
In my opinion you have made me feel so happy and enlightened for the past 2 years. And your my favorite youtuber and after I watch some of your videos for hours on end I always feel enlightened.
+1 positive message "I'm not here to be a surrogate parent." Such a poignant thing to say also I have heard plenty of positive messages from Sean and I love watching his content.
That’s exactly what I did with my kid. I knew she’d be around swearing from TV and people at school (seriously, boys were swearing at primary school already). So my approach was not to hide her from it but to teach her that it’s not good, especially for children. She’s 14 now and it’s going well 👍🏻
My parents did the same thing. They lightened up as I got older but they helped me understand these things rather than shelter me from them. My parents also let me teach them as to why I watch this type of content. They still had trouble understanding, but they accepted that it was something that I enjoyed so long as I didn’t let it negatively affect me life. I wish we had more parents like mine and you.
The time goes by so fast, I’ve been watching you since I was around 13 and didn’t even realize how long that is until all the reviews saying how long people have watched you. It’s been nearly ten years and I’m so happy to have found you and your channel because just watching your videos always made me feel better and still do today

jack, i know this'll just get lost in the large sea of comments, but i really want to say it regardless. like most people i think, i joined the community in 2015 from your phenomenal undertale series, the way you expressed your emotions and how you reacted to it and gave your analysis on so many things was something i'd never seen in most lets players. i admired it so much, and i admired how open you were. the PMA 'era' came at a time that i really needed it as well, as i was struggling with my mental health severely at the time. one thing that hasn't changed about you and that i've always loved, is how each of your videos always has some sort of moral or positive message to it. i honestly think that kids would benefit so much from your channel and the community you've built up. in a way you've raised me, i started watching the channel when i was 14 and i'll be turning 21 in a few months. just wanted to give my sincere gratitude for being there not only for me but so many others who've needed a safe space at any point in their lives. hope you're doing amazing as always and taking care of yourself!! you're so loved!!
My cousins have watched you for years, and I wasn't too much of a fan for a long while, but when Call Me Kevin started his "feud" with RT games and he started bringing you up in conversation, I decided to check out your channel again when it popped up in my feed. You've grown on me like a root grows from the potato.
my dad actually loves your channel, sean. i told him about the stuff you started for pma in 2018 and he got himself his own pma hoodie because he respected everything you did for mental health awareness because of our family history with topics like that. we watch videos together sometimes and he thinks you’re hilarious
As a mom of 2 and as a person herself, I swear like a sailor lol. I've let my kids watch your videos, Mark's, Game Grumps and they love watching you guys. I'm not 100% strict on my kids when it comes to swearing, mainly tell them to watch, if they say one, who they're around. But honestly, like you said if all they can complain about is you swearing, that's good lol. Cause there are worse things to be accused of, that unfortunately some youtubers have been and some turn out to be true.
Agreed! Kiddo will tell me when she doesn't like something or if something makes her uncomfortable. She has her preferences for videos--minecraft, FNAF, craft shit--and I have mine, horror game playthroughs and chaos. These same parents who bitch about "swear words" and all that let their kids play whatever videogames they want without vetting them.
I'm the same. Mum of 2 also and I've always let my kids watch "swearing" RUclipsrs and I have a potty mouth myself. I figured my kids were going to hear it somewhere, I might aswell just explain when it's appropriate and when it isn't. I started watching Jack when my son showed an interest in the channel, as I like to know what they're watching. That was years ago now, my son has stopped watching but I'm still here!
I'm a single father and i've watched Jack with my now 3 years old son before, but right now he is more into watching paw patrol or disney.. But he laughs hystericly to the meme time intro and LAUGH!
I personally am part of the LQBTQ+ community and it breaks my heart that my favorite content creator and person that has helped me out of depressive states with his hilarious and uplifting content is being held hostage over his own word and being called "Homophobic" That's bullshit, we love you jack keep doing what your doing!
Yea, it isn't even his word, he was reading a bully's line in a video game, which seems if anything LGBTQIA+ positive to me, because he was playing a game where a homophobic person was depicted as a bully. So yea, it is incredibly sad that people are saying Sean is homophobic, and I hope those people gain +some brain power, because they seem to be lacking it. Also LGBTQIA+ btw, just didn't know where to say it
I was raised in a very Christian household that taught me to avoid anyone or anything that swears. It wasn't until I got over that fear that I really learned who I was and developed empathy. Many of my friends swear frequently, but I just choose not to. Just because you watch someone who swears frequently doesn't mean you have to as well. It's a choice, and it's okay
What i hate about religions is how they restrict you to explore the world and all it has to offer. From cultures to just people swearing. If i would have to give any advice to you as an atheïst, it would be to not take your religion seriously to the letter. Feel free to believe, but don't restrict yourself. You got the whole world, why bother sitting in a corner of a room. Get out there, make friends. Swearing ones or not. Your life is yours to live. Not for your god. Your god gave you free will to do whatever you want to do, use that power. :)

2 years older, but I feel ya...
Same here. I have cancer and I'm not allowed outside, I'm not allowed to see anyone except the people who live with me. They have to wear masks everywhere because of me. So the website seems to have three review sections: kids, parents, and “expert.” The 1 star comes from the last one, which was from 2017 and is definitely written by someone who doesn’t partake in gaming media very often, let alone RUclipsrs. This is like when Rotten Tomatoes critics hate a movie that the audience loves
man thats stupid as hell lmao
The experts are almost always at odds with the audience. FFS look at cuties or the Dave Chapelle special and the Amy Schumer special. Illustrates my point perfectly.
At least on rotten tomatoes, the experts are actually an expert in that stuff, its just that they are sometimes too pretentious. what makes you an expert in youtube content anyway?

"I'm not here to be a surrogate parent for your children"
THANK YOU!!!

"I'm not here to be a surrogate parent for your children. That is your job as a parent."
FINALLY someone said it👏👏👏 Instead of canceling people for not being child- friendly and setting a "bad example" MONITOR WHAT YOUR KIDS WATCH. That is YOUR job as a parent.
He doesn't constantly need to be PG for your kids when he is a grown ass man.
"All the games kids play are violent"
Why you buy it for them?
"All the clothes they wear are risque"
Why you buy it for them?
"All the shows are bad for them"
Who's letting them watch?
"All the music is explicit"
Who's letting them listen?

I was playing GTA and duke nukem with my dad when i was around 7 🤣 i turned out fine parents just need to teach their kids what’s ok and what’s not 😂
I've literally grown up with Sean.

I’m willing to bet that none of these parents saw that video… or Presentable Liberty… or That Dragon, Cancer… A Normal Lost Phone… You Left Me… Missed Messages…
The list goes on and on!
Wow! This *REALLY* pissed me off! I think I need to go meditate. Before I keep going down this rabbit hole, let me just say thank you for your supportive message.
It’s nice to see some parents out there who acknowledge that it’s not a content creator’s job to raise their children.

I figured it out: The only people that don’t like his content probably only are listening to him in the background and cuss words tend to stick out when you’re not paying attention to what is going on. The parents are not watching it with them.
Also, the 1 star rating is from the company, not the parents.
I noticed the two things that stick out when listening to youtube in the BG: Swearing, and replacements for swearing.
Like I hear all the swears but whenever people cut it out or replace it, even if it barely sounds edited / covered it sticks out because it hits your ear wrong

the thing i like the most about jack is that besides all the 'swearing' this website seems to say he does, (which isn't nearly as bad as some of the reviews made it out to be), he always does his best to be real with his audience, and gives very valuable advice that is extremely helpful. i've been going through some problems recently with discovering myself and it's been pretty hard to deal with, but a lot of the advice that he gives about mental health and accepting yourself has been helping me get through this and i'm really grateful that somebody like him exists. he does joke around a lot and curses here and there but that's not all there is to him, he's actually very sweet, caring and very genuine. he has helped a lot of people get through some of their own problems and i hope he becomes more known for that
He’s one of the only RUclipsrs that has a positive attitude whilst simultaneously swearing his head off
Depends on the personal perspective on what "a lot" of swearing is. For some, he's normal or even a little amount of swearing. For others, it's a lot

Also yeah, the only time I ever swear is for comedy purposes or just as a filler word, I actually swear way less when I'm angry or upset

Went searching for Sean’s reviews on this website and it states they no longer review individual RUclips channels… How interesting…

You were the first content creator on RUclips that I started watching regularly back in 2014. At that time in my life I was stuck in an abusive relationship and while walking around on eggshells constantly lost myself along the way. You brought some positivity and good vibes back into my life at a time where I needed it most. "I'm not here to be a surrogate parent for your children." Said it right Sean. Channel may not be all that "kid friendly" but it's really not your fault at all if kids watch it.
When he said that though, it reminded me that this community is still like a family.

I know I’m just a commenter and stuff (and not Jack) but I hope you’re doing/will do amazing. You seem like a great person :)
@@ttmsp8720 Aw, that's sweet, thank you ^-^ honestly I don't actually expect Jack to see my comment, but other people were sharing their stories so I figured I'd share mine too
Sean: - "I'm not here to be a surrogate parent."
Me: - "But.....daddy :..("
Bruh those one stars, sean litterally has the most openminded and accepting community on youtube and im 100% sure that no other community can compare and thats because of him. Seans positivity attracted other amazing people to form this community
Yup.
Came for the playthroughs, stayed for the lad's spirit. He deserves all the stars.

you are good parent
Your kids have a pretty damn awesome parent right there. You're doing parenting the right way.
Same here! I started watching Sean a bit over 5 years ago and immediately fell in love with the positivity and content. Watching his videos and streams soon became a family activity and Thankmas is now an official holiday in our house. My children are now 10 and 8 and have been watching for 5 years along with me. They laugh at the jokes, (many of them go over their heads, as they should), they giggle at the swear words (which they know not to repeat), and just have an amazing time overall.
i love how jack says he’s not gonna be a surrogate parent but he legit raised some of us.
Oh my god yes, I've been watching jack since i was 8, and i basically grow up with him
I love how as an Irish person.
@@generichuman2044 In my country swearing is so common that having a normal conversation that have no swear word is rare
@@quanhominh4995 yeah same thing here in America but with guns and Ford trucks
As a Scottish person, even one who doesn’t swear at all, I can also concur. Swearing is very normal here lol
“I’m not here to be a surrogate parent to your children” can’t be said enough.
@@darianbarber3763 that rule makes a lot of sense, I like it :)
I can't wrap my head around people not liking this man. I've been watching him since he first started and grew up watching him. Nothing he says or does is really an issue, he's made amends for anything that he's done. Keep doing what you're doing, you're one of the living legends in this hellscape of a planet
same here, infact i got grounded and wasnt allowed to watch yt anymore bc of him yelling fuck😂😭
im 14 now
16 been watching him since i was like 9 dude is a living legend
Because parents don't get the basic fact that it's their job to educate their kids about how swearing is viewed and to avoid using it. Instead they insist everyone else never swears so they never need to have that conversation and as soon as that kid is older they inevitably swear like a sailor behind their backs
ong
@@trstn6373 *Bee.*
The Paul brothers having more stars just shows how little these parents actually know.
The fact that Vanoss has more stars is more alarming to me.
Sean's Reviews: Genuine nice compliments explaining how he is misunderstood
Mark's Reviews: IS THAT THE BITE OF 87!?!
I’m 12 now hehehe I’ve been watching him since I was maybe 7?
I loved that for one of Mark's reviews all it said was "WAS THAT THE BITE OF 87!?" and it was a 5 star
swore a "couple of thousand times" still feels like a massive understatement. not that I'd have it any other way
This just shows how out of touch some parents can be. I hope Seán continues to grow and make content for as long as it makes him happy to do so!
funny thing is , it seem the adults on that website actually agree with you and gave jack/sean 5 stars. That one star review was their "experts".
Jack: I'm not hear to be a surrogate parent to your kid

To be fair, he should return to minecraft with the new 1.18 update. Or maybe next year when 1.19 drops. Would love to see him encounter the Warden lol
+1 positive message "I'm not here to be a surrogate parent." Such a poignant thing to say also I have heard plenty of positive messages from Sean and I love watching his content.
crap...can't like more than once 🙄 cause seriously...this right here is TRUTH
9:27 don’t worry Dude, I know you’d never use the f-slur as a way to belittle LGBTQ+ people (having watched this man for 4 years) and as a queer person myself, I’ve never been offended by anything you’ve said at all

jack, i know this'll just get lost in the large sea of comments, but i really want to say it regardless. like most people i think, i joined the community in 2015 from your phenomenal undertale series, the way you expressed your emotions and how you reacted to it and gave your analysis on so many things was something i'd never seen in most lets players. i admired it so much, and i admired how open you were. the PMA 'era' came at a time that i really needed it as well, as i was struggling with my mental health severely at the time. one thing that hasn't changed about you and that i've always loved, is how each of your videos always has some sort of moral or positive message to it. i honestly think that kids would benefit so much from your channel and the community you've built up. in a way you've raised me, i started watching the channel when i was 14 and i'll be turning 21 in a few months. just wanted to give my sincere gratitude for being there not only for me but so many others who've needed a safe space at any point in their lives.
hope you're doing amazing as always and taking care of yourself!! you're so loved!!
People like you are who keep my faith in humanity aspark.
Welp everyone it looks like we're bad parents, time to turn in our parenting licenses and send our kids back from whence they came
I personally am part of the LQBTQ+ community and it breaks my heart that my favorite content creator and person that has helped me out of depressive states with his hilarious and uplifting content is being held hostage over his own word and being called "Homophobic" That's bullshit, we love you jack keep doing what your doing!
I'd argue that it's not even his own word considering he was reading dialogue.
Karens are blind
Yea, it isn't even his word, he was reading a bully's line in a video game, which seems if anything LGBTQIA+ positive to me, because he was playing a game where a homophobic person was depicted as a bully.
So yea, it is incredibly sad that people are saying Sean is homophobic, and I hope those people gain +some brain power, because they seem to be lacking it.
Also LGBTQIA+ btw, just didn't know where to say it
as someone who's been watching him for nearly three years and is part of of the lgtbqia+ community, i completely agree with you
Can confirm that we queers support Sean lmao
I died laughing when he said “they’re against… the Irish”
