i know this comment is from 2 years ago but i researched about the muic video and found out that that some of the weddings in the music video was staged while some were real
It was also disclosed that in most but not all of the couples selected, they work in the music/movie/theater industries and were first chosen based on connections (indirectly) with the band and the industry. After that Maroon 5 picked a few others that were not connected in any way and did a few of those weddings as well. So it helped if you had an "in" to be selected in the first place (although it was mostly luck to be selected according to one groom. They also played one other song after playing Sugar twice to reposition the cameras. The other song was played only to the bride and groom on the dance floor.

My wife and I had a fabulous wedding 43 years ago. Our party set the pattern for many of our friends wedding parties for a long time after. But it would have been great to have something like this instead of a DJ.

Rommel Miraflores I'm assuming they were given some sort of rights to use the song as all the "crashes" were pre-arranged and the stage was already setup before people were even let into the reception areas. The "band entry footage" was captured after they did the performance and from the behind the scenes thing I saw they did 2 takes of Sugar at each reception. Lastly, as long as you're not trying to make a sale or profit from someone else's work, the "free use" laws are vaguely written, credit is given to the band and links to make a purchase are in the description.
