I had a VERY similar noise on mine i just fixed. The harmonic balancer broke and so did the crank pulley bolt that holds it in place. I had to retap the crankbolt threads but it went back together well.
I’m just about out of ideas. The truck is still running just fine, but the noise is still there. None of my attempted repairs have improved the situation.
Gabriel Altman I’ve got the same sort of noise on mine. Truck runs perfect just has the ticking noise was wondering if it could be noisy fuel injectors?
Could be. The injectors do not seem to be the source of the noise on my truck. Lots of people have the “Tacoma tick.” Mine has been making noise for years.

Did you figure it out? What’s the contraption you’re using? Some type of microphone probe? Is your truck super quiet other than the tick?
its a mechanics stethoscope.its totally unbelieveable what you can hear with it.
It is the main rod. You will not fix the noise. Just replacing the block.

My 97 Tacoma makes the same noise but only at start up

Was it the pump? Mine does the same thing.
