They would be fine in a pond.. they are resilient! I can't and release in my back yard huge pond and they are just fine.. i have even marked some that I've kept for years and put back and they thrive.

This gives me hope. We just adopted a 10 year old RES but I quickly realized that our 30 gallon is still not enough for him even with the above tank basking platform. Ideally I'd like to provide a 100/120 gal tank but that's nowhere near feasible financially.

I want to say this again just to make sure you see this but look into the Hastings 750 Gallon Plastic Containment Tank has a drain plug at the bottom with a steel frame for support and seems perfect for a turtle indoor pond. cheapest one was 400 new but for a pond that will never break not a bad investment in my eyes

Thanks for rescuing! My 30 something year old female is much bigger than those two, so watch out ...they will keep growing! They also will need somewhere to lay eggs. Once they are healthy and have enough space they will start laying in spring and fall (though not sure how that will be on the one missing her tail). When I put mine in a new 120 gallon a few years ago she started laying so many clutches of eggs!

This is the setup I need for a 6 inch wild snapping turtle I have that needs to stay long enough to heal a couple shell puncture injuries thanks to getting bit by a dog. There wasn't any bleeding. But the shell definitely got punctured. I can't reasonably release this turtle knowing those infection routes are there. I cleaned the wounds out (plentiful saline spray, Vetericyn, and copious amounts of water which has worked well since the wounds appear free from any signs of infection...clean). This snapper wants to leave leave leave 😅. I would gladly release this turtle on its home turf, and will do so as soon as can be. I want to do this correctly. I know enough to keep water temperature and ambient temperature like it is now outside (except my water is clean!). I haven't got this turtle to eat anything yet. I have had this turtle since 2pm Friday. I don't have a sun heat lamp yet. I know its for basking. Sun is what helps turtles absorb calcium. I can't seem to get a licensed rehabber yet. Maybe I can DIY this myself. I know exactly where the turtle came from. I just don't know how long this will be. This turtle does not want to be stuck in a confined box. It has business it wants to attend to, like now.

That MVB is probably too close. Heat should be ok but UV index will be too intense in close distance with direct exposure without screen top.
I recommend halogen for heat and T5 for UVB.

Question, i am trying to build a bin enclosure for box turtle, so no water, right? Can i use a laundry basket so to rinse when dirty? What else, i am in Houston 100° weather. I live in a subdivision with no woods around at all, and it showed up in my back yard with 6 foot fences.

they get a bit scared at first since they cant see hoe far the walls are, but with some aquatic plants and maybe a hidding spot and basking spot like his theyll be just fine. i have the 75 gallon tube for my 8 inch slidder. filled to about 14 inches of water. with 3 heaters and a canister filter and light source. hes livin the good life. compared to the 20 gallon tank with 5 inches of water i rescued him from

I would recommend at least a couple hundred gallons tub size wise The best bet is to buy a stock tank which are usually sold at live stock store than fill the bottom with cleaned pre washed chemical free aquarium sand and than add a brick or to in a corner to block the filter since snapping turtles will eat almost anything in sight filter wise I would recommend a fluval aquaclear filter which you can get at petco than fill with water and add recommended amount of water dechlorinator from the pet store which will protect the turtle from chlorine I also recommend andding some rocks or drift would for the turtles to rest on. Snapping turtles dont really bask much so no need to buy basking areas or uvb lighting.
