      @@Citizen052 I concur. Baldur's Gate series had the best RPG atmosphere, experience and writing of them all. Likewise the music, art design and everything just made it so special and unmatched. I really hope they can get somewhat close. Pillars of Eternity tried to capture that Infinity Engine style art-style and vibe - but failed terribly in the character, writing, story, world and settings' department. It's a shame.

    Neverwinter Nights series is a good example of the transitional, experimental phase between older, "book-like" RPG's like Baldur's Gate and new, more "cinematic" and overly multiplayer-oriented titles. Deeply flawed but enjoyable nontheless, especially for those that tinkered with editor to deliver user-made content....
    Also Deekin

      Baldur's Gate is highly overrated. Neverwinter Nights had a deep, traditional fantasy outlook and was richly atmospheric. BG2 was just a united states of sidequests, jumbled together randomly.

    • @CCODEZ
      @CCODEZ 8 лет назад +6

      +Steve No be fair, DA:O was a damn good game, not quite to the epic score of Baldur's Gate or Icewind Dale or even this game (IMO) but was still engaging and entertaining RPG where you could (almost) be who you wanted to be... say... unlike now days where a certain post apocalyptical "RPG" is the benchmark :\

    • @roadkillninja
      @roadkillninja 8 лет назад +3

      +CCODEZ I know, but I do miss the classes and races from the d&d based games a lot. Also, it may be just nostalgia, but the musical scores for nwn's base game and hotu were impeccable.

    • @boredgunner
      @boredgunner 8 лет назад +1

      +Steve NWN has much more gameplay content (though kind of hard to enjoy now due to its clunkiness), DA:O has actual characters and much more story (and a far more interactive plot too). Between the two I'll take DA:O any day of the week, NWN is a linear experience with no emotional connection and nothing going for it but combat really. Like a more linear Baldur's Gate but with much better gameplay/far more gameplay content.
      Even DA:O is a lot more complex than today's RPGs like hack and slash Witcher with its severe lack of actual role-playing, or its latest successor Inquisition which has no skills system (though still has the interactivity).
      If you want the best of both worlds then that would be Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer. Or Planescape: Torment though it lacks the race choice and only has three classes, although I'm sure you know this already, and the story is worth those sacrifices. These two plus Fallout 2 are the real benchmark RPGs.

    • @DevDreCW
      @DevDreCW 8 лет назад +1

      Man, if all you know about NWN is the single player experience you SEVERELY missed out. the multiplayer/roleplay community was unique and incredible. To this day the only RPG where people actually roleplayed because everyone took it seriously (in years of playing never once ran across a troll), on persistent world servers with evolving story lines thanks to DM clients.
      I do agree that the single player experience wasn't the best. But multiplayer.. omg

    • @boredgunner
      @boredgunner 8 лет назад

      Andreas Michael Design Yeah, I do know what the MP is like. It's still played to this day, as is NWN 2 MP. Not sure how good the community is though but it's so separate from the rest of the gaming industry, I imagine they still take it seriously.

    Level 1 Human Fighter with blue skin named Blue Waffle.
    Wakes up in a room with a magical sword resting on the floor.
    As he picks up the sword and walks out of the room, the town square was filled with thousands of Prismatic Dragons! He runs down to face them all in battle with no clothes and sword in hand!

      He was the only companion I ever used. Playing a wizard or a thief? Need a meat shield, better take Daelan. Playing a half-orc barbarian, the exact same thing Daelan is? Take him anyways, two axes are better than one. No matter where you went or what you fought, he was there by your side, proving to the world that there is nothing that can't be solved by several solid whacks from a double axe. His interactions with Deekin in Hordes of the Underdark were hilarious.
