Turkish culture has beautiful artistic elements in everything. Every aspect of their clothing and armor are elegant and yet do not sacrifice function either.
Saladin1187 Well, they did inherit a lot of stuff from the Romans....contrary to popular myth caused by the Eastern Roman-Seljuk war, the Romans and Turks were for a long time allies. The Roman war against the Bulgarians shows an early example, but then you have before the Ottoman conquest, an instance where the Ottomans helped out in Roman politics to try to solve internal disputes. Unfortuately, the Ottoman sultans were very machiavellian and conquered Constantinople as a result.
Could be, but the Ottoman Machiavellian tolerance, benevolence, fraternity, peace, but herding, diligence, honesty, allies will always be depended. The fact that a Turkish State success keys.

Sallam, Very nice video MashAllah. I am into Archery and would love this gentleman to come and teach our group here in the UK. Please kindly get back to me and InshAllah we can sort something out. Sallam
almost 10 years later, the thumb release is now much more widely known and many of the descriptions hat were thought to be impossible were actually done
Excellent Gokem,, visit Turkey a lot, nice people great to talk to, good sense of humour. There is a festival of warfare in Kent at the end of August will you be there.? it's called Military Odyssey.
@Americanwarbow no there is a historic depiction and a separate instruction in a historic manual on battlefield skills. While shooting they held a sabre or arrows in their drawing hand. You can do that with a thumb draw.
There's a lot to like about this video and Turkish archery. I like the point about having the sword ready to use quickly, and holding several arrows at once. I guess if you a warrior and constantly practicing that these things become second nature. Still it looks pretty difficult to me. I wonder why the women doing archery were covered with one covered head to toe? Every video I see and enjoy about Turkey everyone looks quite modern and does not have such a high percentage of scarves And the black outfit I have never seen in a video about Turkey. I am guessing they are from the Eastern side of the country. Does that sound right? An aspect of archery on horseback that I am curious about is just how did the archers stop the up and down in the saddle from spoiling their shot?
Salam. I teach children at a Masjid and would like to first learn myself and then teach children archery to implement and revive this beautiful Sunnah. How can I get in touch with brother Gokem? جزاكم الله تعالى خيرا
I agree completely. I never thought I would see some one mention Mike Havel's "Bearkillers" here. Mike Havel will always be one of my Heroes, and his son Rudi is doing pretty well, what with having the Sword of the Lady. Steve Sterling has written an awesome series. ;'P
@Gilgamesh387 1. Sabre is Windlass Shamshir but Coldsteel makes a similar one. However the hilt you are seeing is 18th cc and older, so it is too new to fit to the armour/helm/bow. So it is historically a bit incorrect. Anyway great sabre to train your techniques. 2. Look at Grozer archery for your Turkish bow.
@3choBlaster I totally agree with you about a Turkish kilic. At the moment some Turkish blacksmith experiment so hopefully we will have some results soon. However the kilic in the deadliest warrior series is a 18thcc kilic, but Vlad lived in the 15th cc so form, hilt etc are not correct either. Nevertheless, 18thcc or 15th cc model, the cutting power is great.
@Americanwarbow Unfortunately the manual is only in old Ottoman Turkish. Btw they only say to hold 2 arrows in your hands. Consider a fast Turcoman or Arabian horse, until you shoot those 3 arrows you gonna be 100meters away and on a battlefield that's a lot so no point in having 15 arrows in your hand they are gonna be wasted. Kassai is far from battlefield horseback archery btw, it is a sport on certain rules he invented. And you cant shoot sharp broadheads with his method.
Hello, i got Hungarian bow. and tried some thumb release with it. but totaly failed. somehow with thumb release arrows go just incredibly alot to the right. pull with right hand. arrow on the right hand. everything looks like should be ok. can you tell me where the problem could be?
how much extra weight can a person pull with the thumb ring? i see it in chinese, korean and mongolian archery so i assume it there to lessen the burden on the archers thumb.
+The WHITE WOLFF its called horn bow or asiatic bow, but this particular bow is ottoman bow, the concept is same with korean mongolian and turkic bows, but the crafting technique is bit different.
+The WHITE WOLFF its called horn bow or asiatic bow, but this particular bow is ottoman bow, the concept is same with korean mongolian and turkic bows, but the crafting technique is bit different.
+Thesocraticbreed This is very insightful of you. It is true. Curved swords were used by the mounted archers (called sipahis) in Ottoman Empire. Foot soldiers (Janissary in particular) used muskets and a shorter sword called yatagan. Yatagan was mainly designed for piercing at close combat. Curved swords (called kilic) was for slashing on horseback.
Dogan Sinar I love swordsmanship! I do not know as much of the Turkic style, but as a German,English and Italian style swordsman, I can say that it is something I appreciate... and yes, I have noticed how sabers are often used by light cavalry... the hussars used it as opposed to a broad sword, which is a stabbing weapon mostly, because they believed it could kill one man and wound two others to allow for capture.
Looking closely, looks as I suspected: Turkic archery in the sense you're talking about is closely related to the way the Huns, who like the Turkic(being descendants of the Scythian people of the western Steppes), fired their arrows and also adopted by the Romans. When done correctly and fastly, it can rival a bullet in velocity of travel.
Turksta .A No, they were Xiongnu. There was no such thing as a Turkic Hun until the Hungarians came after the fall of the Hunnic Kingdom, and that was a tribe known as Magyar. The original were not Turks, but Asians.
Turksta .A Well then, you would know that the Huns come from Xiongnu, a Chinese name for the barbarian tribes of the Steppes to the north. True, there are later Huns that came from the Scythian areas, but that was a result of Huns breeding with Scythians, the predecessors of the Turks and they became the Maygars as a result. Though the original Huns, and the ones that were there at the time of Attila were Xiongnu Huns.

Original Turkish curved bow can shoot up to 900 Meters. Record broken in the competition in France with Ottoman/Turkish bureaucrat shooting a target from 500 + Meters and there was archers and all kind of bows from all over the Europe! Within 300 Meters it can easily pass any kind of Armour that used all around the world until 18th century! even now can drill into a bullet proof jacket! In order to become arched in the Ottoman army; you had to shoot accurately 500 Meters and more! Average archer was able to shoot around 30 to 60 Arrows per minute with % 100 accuracy on the horse, 360 degrees, % 100 accuracy with in 300 Meters, on the horse! People in Turkey just recently started doing horse back archery! Usually people starts after 30-40 years old, practices archery and horse back riding only 2-3 years but still become good enough to show similar performance. Now think about Ottoman Army Soldiers and Turks living in that time; Starts riding horses as soon as they start walking, starts military training especially archery and swordsmanship at the age of 2-3 Years old, spend whole their life with these training as well as Turkish Oil Wrestling and training with all possible fighting sports those exited during that period and sees at least 10-15 Battles until they become 20 Years old!
Asian composite bows tend to have lighter draw weights, but they have better efficiency, and their design allows the bow to store more energy given the same weight at the end of the draw. So while longbows can easily get to 110+lbs they are pretty much on par with 80lbs composite bows.
@@godoff.5304 Hundred percent accuracy is false considering even the best horse archers around the world can't do that. Within 30 meters I could perhaps see it.
