Honestly this is just a testament to how good Kanemaru Jun'ichi's English is, which makes sense considering he also works as an English teacher in addition to being a voice actor. Despite the noticeable accent still, most of the English here is very well-pronounced, and he manages to emote very well even in English. Just listen to that "Tails, no!" and hear the real emotion in his voice.
Here’s a small detail that some may not notice: as Sonic became more mainstream in America, the US team actually started handling the scripts and those were translated into Japanese, instead of the other way around. This becomes apparent as the lip sync for characters starts to match more with the US voices, as opposed to syncing better with Japanese voice lines as they did before.
