Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, and Carl Perkins were all at their recording studio at exactly the same time and they even had a photo of all four of them in the studio together !!!!! That was in 1956. I was lucky enough to see Jerry Lee Lewis perform on stage at the southern assembly system in 1956 and I was also permitted to attend an Elvis Presley concert at the Cotton Bowl stadium also in Dallas, Texas in 1956!!!!!! This predates the twist. It's early enough, where some people would still have been dancing the jitterbug and the lindy hop.
Jerry Lee Lewis and his songs were pretty edgy for the 1950's, so they were almost too scandalous for poodle skirt wearing girls to dance to, so "Whole Lotta Shakin'" and "Great Balls of Fire" were more likely listened to by "bad" girls, when they were originally released.

That’s called “slapback echo” and was an effect they used on all the vocals at Sun Records. Elvis’ version of “Blue Moon” probably shows it to its most extreme. When Elvis signed to a different label, it wasn’t used as strongly or as often, but it was still used.

Elvis didn't drink or smoke, like to goof off and just wanted to make his mama proud and provide for his parents. Jerry Lee was all about the party life, wanted the fame and fortune and all it could bring him and married his 13-year-old cousin, because he was raised in the South, in a time when girls got married at that age, or as he said, "My sister got married at 12." Definitely agree with lots of the comments about watching him live I can't think of another piano player that brings such an attitude to their performance! But they definitely should do some other oldies like little Richard as well

Jerry Lee liked to call himself the "Killer" because he thought he was so talented. He didn't just play a concert... he (killed/slayed) at the concert. Incredible live performer!

I love it!!!! We grew up down the road from each other & he was the most carefree person. He did his own thing & didn't care who liked it or didn't..I could tell you many stories about him..Jerry Lee & Elvis hung out together at Sun Records & Elvis said his biggest influence was Jerry Lee Lewis...& Chuck Berry..he's still never been inducted into the country music hall of Fame either. He's about the only living legend that's not been inducted...his cousin Mickey Gilley could play almost as good & he's got a couple of duets with him that's good!! Thanks so much for playing Jerry Lee Lewis..

There's a reason why they called him "killer" Jerry Lee Lewis was an electric dynamo on the piano. As someone said you got to find footage of him playing live because he used to jump up, dancing, and going WILD on the keys. Even in his old age he could still light a fire.

Jerry Lee is from Louisiana. He is on of the greatest piano players ever. He was very controversial in the 50s. People said he was too wild. Jerry Lee, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, and Carl Perkins, were all discovered at Sun Records in Memphis. They were all pioneers of Rock & Roll.

I believe you guys would love the movie, Great Balls of Fire. It's about the life and career of Jerry "Killer" Lee Louis, featuring Dennis Quaid as Jerry Lee.
It shows how he learned to play the style of music he played, which I think you'll love, and his rocketing fame, and the contraversy of his marriage to his 14 year old 2nd cousin, and the downfall after it becomes public.
And your right about the Elvis style sound to his music. Jerry Lee recorded his albums in the exact same studio as Elvis recorded his in. In Memphis Tenn.
Which is why Lee choose it to record it there.
The same promoters who got Elvis famous got Lee famous too.
Most likely they used the same equipment.
