Thank you very much! Close up, slow demonstration even a novice like myself could follow. Watched 3 other video on the same subject and yours was the best!
Great easy-to-follow instructions. I had two cylinders to flip and after watching this it was easier to flip the cylinder than it was to take the screws out of the doorknob assembly. Thanks!
Thanks for the great video - made the whole job very easy for me! I had a new Kwikset lock get stuck while I was re-keying it, and Kwikset sent me a free replacement cylinder (and tool), but no instructions. For anyone who needs to actually replace the cylinder, there is a u-shaped snap ring that is holding the cylinder in place. Just remove it, swap out the cylinders, snap the ring back into place, and then follow the re-assembly instructions in this helpful video.
Thanks, exactly what i needed. Also note that Kwikset will replace for free tarnished products, but they no longer carry anything with “antique” in the name, like the very common antique brass. They will give you a current color.
Your demo was the best of any I seen on removal of core. Best angle and easiest to see. Thank you. What is best way to remove if you do not have the removal tool. Talking about the V end of the tool?
chris capune thanks man. I did this same demo on my other channel a few years ago but just recently was told it wasn’t clear enough so I tried to make this one as clear as possible.
I've done many of those locks back in my days they were my first to start rekeying . That's been so long now that I recently just got a deadbolt & don't remember if that was the same style or not from when I done them. Have a good one buddy.
I did this but now after inserting the key, need to turn clockwise to lock. The deadbolt requires counter-clockwise to lock. Anyway to fix this so I can turn both in the same direction to lock and unlock?
I'm not a locksmith but a tinkerer. OK so the springs that hold the core and outer ring do not appear that strong. So how hard would it be to drill the softer outer ring and use a dent puller to pull out the outer ring and core. Then use a small screwdriver to spin the lock? Bypassing picking the lock altogether. I just reprogrammed two smartkey cores because I screwed them up and was surprised how easy it is to remove this assembly.
LOL I have re keyed a lot of these locks in younger days, now all these years later Ia m sitting here with a nearly new set of nobs for a french door to the back porch I just installed and even with my tool I cannot get this thing to pop; I made one back in the day that was way better than the one that comes in the kwikset rekey sets with a butter knife. I made the angel of the forks a bit less sharp and the tips spatula like, but the knife was better material than these factory tools. I don't have a metal blade to cut up a butter knife like that right now. Old locks like this are easier, especially if they have been opened before. This is so aggravating I came to you tube to see if I had forgotten something but NOPE! lol it's just being a real bear I guess.
This is the removal tool if anyone is interested amzn.to/3flSBXF

I don’t know. I just buy the right tools
To anyone out there trying to do this without that tool: stop now before you lose your sanity like I did.
this is the tool. its about four bucks amzn.to/3flSBXF others have successfully done this without the tool.
@@russej02 I used a fondue fork and needle-nose pliers 👍
Buy the tool, it is worth it.
It’s definitely is worth the few bucks

I sometimes have to put the tool in the lock then tap it on the ground to pop them out
