The composition that I have performed in this video is a presentation of Teentaal and is the fourth piece from my Kathak Manch Pravesh that took place on 17th August 2019, at the Theatre at the NUS University Cultural Centre.
This taal is the most common in Hindustani music, and hence Kathak dance, and consists of 16 matras. Performed in drut laya (the ‘fast speed’ of a taal), it consists of compositions such as Paran, Tihai, Tukda, and a Jugalbandi. The presentation also includes a Gatbhav, known as Makhanchori, in which a young Krishna is depicted stealing butter, and then being reprimanded by Yashoda.
The piece was choreographed by my guru, Guru Jyotika Joshi, with accompanying music by the following artistes:
Padhant - Guru Jyotika Joshi
Vocals - Guru Shibani Roy
Tabla - Guru Mihir Kundu
Pakhawaj - Guru Mulla Afsar Khan
Sitar - Guru Susanta Chowdhury
All the above-mentioned Gurus are tutors at the Singapore Indian Fine Arts Society.

In the meantime kudos to pandit who is in tabla. Being a kathak performer for many years the tabla was magnificient which enhances the dance.

I used to learn kathak when I was younger but sadly had to drop out of the classes due to some personal reasons, now I am watching this in 11th grade, although I have forgotten most of the dance I still remember the thrill of dancing with my friends and the ringing of ghungrus in sync with the tabla. I hope I will be able to relearn the dance when I am older and finally out of school (though it will be difficult, I am willing to dedicate that time and energy just to dance again). Thank you for blessing our eyes with this beautiful performance, and rekindling my love for this beautiful dance form.

Even for a single moment I couldn't keep my eyes off you. Each and every step just glued me. You are blessed. It's been a month that I have started learning Kathak and this performance inspired me. You can never understand man ,, first learn music then you will know how tough it is to perform with these beats of tabla ,,,and Yes offcourse it is exercise as well for your mind also because when you practice this beats and try to memorize so that you don't even miss one Beats..it actually will make your memory so strong.......hope you got ur answer.....
This dance is called "katak "
It's a classical dance ,,,, everyone cannot digest it.
