She not only performed but was awarded two AMA's that night - Best Female vocal and Best Female video. During one of the speeches she thanked the ABC Carpentry company across the street for helping her put that sculpture together. I thought that was cool for an artist to give a shout out to an art group for helping with a visual for a performance. Also, I'm sure others will point this out ... after this award ceremony ... Off everyone goes to A&M studios to record We Are The World.
So awesome to see someone react the same way I reacted seeing this performance for the first time. ❤ Her style, hairdo with those two colors, accessories, outfit and Cyndi is so expressive when she sings and performed, besides being a great vocalist. Became a huge fan, she is so unique. Great entertainer!
There's a concert film "Cyndi Lauper Live From Paris" (1967). The third song is called Boy Blue, which she wrote about a close friend of hers who died from aids while she was working on the True Colors album. The most incredible vocals driven by raw grief, I've never seen anything else like it. And that is fallowed by All Through the Night, with it's other worldly outro. It's probably worth your time to watch the whole thing :). She's one of those few performers who sound better live than they do in a recording. At 71 she's starting her final major tour this Fall, and she's hardly lost anything.
In 2018 I had tickets to see her with Rod Stewart, but he had a throat issue and she wasn't available to reschedule.🥺 I was primarily going to see her with him as gravy. 🤩🤩 Deep cut
Another one I forgot to mention is Cyndi singing "Another Brick in the Wall" at the Wall Concert in 1990, Cyndi said that was scary bc there was 250,000 people there but she just went out and did it.
A cover song of Prince’s brilliantly written song that was released on his 3rd album and first masterpiece, Dirty Mind, in 1980. His version is far superior as coming from the male perspective. But he liked Cyndi so she’ll get a pass. It’s a cool version. Nobody Prince. 💜💜
Have you seen this performance before? Which of Cyndi's live performances is your all time favorite?
Hopefully her show on 11/23/2024.

Another great Cyndi Lauper song even Prince liked it, Cyndi and Prince were actually friends after this.
I'd wondered what he thought. I figured he might like it. He had some STRONG opinions on artist's interpretations of his songs lol.

Nice! I'll have to check that out!
