Very informative. Hadn't heard about the reversed option.

The reversed stuff is really great. It looks so nice when you look through the soundhole.

I hadn't either, but a couple of years ago I bought a classical that was made in China, for an America dealer. It's got an all solid wood body, and appears to be well made and it sounds pretty nice to me. However I noticed that the kerfing has it's cuts facing out. I'd never seen this before and wondered if it wasn't possibly a mistake.
I was delighted to hear the explanation of why a builder would use kerfing like this.
