Dangers of Manja!

Our city's wildlife faces a grave annual threat as the new year approaches and our festive calendars mark Sankranti and the nostalgic kite-flying season it ushers in - glass powder-coated Manja!
The Asian Koel was found entangled in the deadly Manja thread. Our trained rescuers were able to help the bird using equipment like telescopic poles.
The Asian Koel is a large cuckoo and hence one of the easier birds to spot getting entangled in Manja thread during this time of the year. However, birds of all sizes can be subjected to the dangers of the thread. Birds that get caught in this strong synthetic thread are unable to break free as easily as they can from cotton thread. As a result of their struggle, they sustain serious injuries and may never be able to fly again.
