You could very well have been in the middle of an undersea equivalent of a gang standoff. These two species tend to REALLY not like each other. Orca pods are known to prey on juvenile Humpbacks, and groups of adult Humpbacks often go out of their way to interrupt Orca hunts, bully Orcas out of feeding areas, and rescue Orca prey animals, regardless of species. It's a fascinating dynamic, actually.
What is that sound? Tell me it's not a camera taking pics, that would be annoying for the sea mammals for sure.

Those are resident orcas, they don't eat whales, just fish.
