Photographer Dawoud Bey trains his lens on history and the American landscape in this exhibition of 42 photographs and two film installations that contemplate the harrowing journeys of early African Americans, pondering the human realities of the Virginia slave trail, Louisiana plantations, and Ohio’s Underground Railroad. Dawoud Bey: Elegy is an immersive and transportive experience that includes never-before-seen photographs taken in Richmond and commissioned by VMFA.
